Thank you for the legacy you left.
RIP _ March 7, 1951 - September 29, 2020
He was born in Sonora California and came onto the scene at age 14.
He went from not knowing what a bass was, to changing the way bass will forever be played. History was made; a legend was born.
He proved to the world that music comes from the soul, that there are no boundaries, no rules, just you and your instrument.
Rocco lived his life to play bass. He had been the King of the 16th note for 5 decades.
He had been a part of the highly sought after band,Tower Of Power for over 45 years!
There have been a lot of ups and downs, but one thing remains true…
FUNK THE DUMB STUFF!

Don’t worry if you can’t sound like Prestia. No one else can either
"Its okay to be busy, just don't step on anybody's toes"
His playing really carries the whole groove of the band, doesn't it? It's what makes their tunes so infectious.....
THis is better than slapping.
I guess the best way to put it is everyone slaps and when someone plays very funky fingerstyle (much harder) you notice it and appreciate it :)
Id be trying to lower the action. Its real high but obvious works for Rocco.Maybe bass needs more string height than 6 string?
What makes his playing flashy is the groove. Swinging
RIP ROCCO AN.AMAZING PLAYER WITH SOUL TO MATCH.. THANKS FOR THE MUSIC
Obviously finger-funk is synonymous with Rocco but it is for a reason. When I wanted to adopt this style I went straight to the source. I picked up a lot of cool stuff from him and decades later I still implement the lessons learned.
Bad Ass Rocco Prestia...one of a kind...No other bass player will ever be able to replace him or do him justice in T. O.P!!!!
They're gonna be playing near me, but I don't think I'm going with no Rocco. 😔
This is a priceless gem of bass wisdom! Bassists of the world, take heed.
Jaco Pastorios was inspired by Rocco. That speaks volumes.
Thank you for sharing the video ! I put some notes for myself. They are quite a lot of cool stuff to learn and exercices to practice :

Every time I listen to Rocco he impresses me. A great player with a unique style that drives the band.

Evoluí muito meu pizzicato estudando esse cara! Era muiiito bom no seu estilo. Gosto muito!!

Рокко! Супер!
Cool
Now we know where Joe Dart got it from😎🎸
The drummer is struggling at 15:18 for a few bars. Rocco saves the day!
Does anybody know if there are vids or a full video from those bits where the whole band plays?
13:48
I didn’t know Shawn Michaels was in a band.

I’ve been trying to play the baseline at 38:17 for the last 7 years and still can’t get it like that lol.
It was with that exact clip that I found out about Francis Rocco Prestia and fell in love with the style… and decided I want to learn the bass. Hell of a groove.
Does anybody have the book he refers to?
1:06:49
Anyone have the list of tunes in this lesson? Thanks!
and Carmen Grillo on guitar, a Kramer no less
That's a guitar I wanted at the time. Came close enough with the Ibanez RG560 (still have it). :)
@@AlexRamosDrTaz !!! Funny you mention, I almost just got an RG560 in black, for $250w/case. Looking for another, or any non-pickguard RG as a project. Maybe I just need to build one up from parts, I have a neck...
9:48 what is hip
He must be on that good shiznit
The outtakes at the end make that seem pretty certain. 😂
First let me tell you about myself..I'm a Meth user thanks to Victor Conte
What is that bass he's playing?
Conklin, then went esp
It’s most definitely a Fernandes
@@mikew6990 the guy above you is right, its a conklin
@@McDoinky lmao are you guys talking about later endorsements, or in this video? Because either I’m fucking blind, or it says Fernandes on the headstock.. that is a FRB-90, I own likterally the exact instrument.. unmistakable..
The earlier Conklin had the "c" kinda going around... and pretty much the same type of letters than Fernandes.... maybe he used a fernandes for some occasions?
This is great but man, Rocco, CLEAR YOUR THROAT
He passed away 2 years ago, unfortunately. His voice can't get any clearer than that.
He must've smoked alot of cigarettes
이때는 연습 열심히 안하신듯 약간씩 쩔뚝 거리시네요ㅋ ㅋ
His string action is so high that the strings buzz as soon as pressure from his finger is reduced, he should of lowered his bridge saddle screws by at least half a turn at the very least....
He played hard, so high action was appropriate for his style
