My Uncle Button (yes, that was his name) was a french polisher, his specialism was the painting of trim and details on other woods to match the burl details. He used a feather rather than a brush and would eyeball colours with such precision that you would swear it was a solid piece rather than another wood carved and painted to match. We have one of his pieces, a side board, and 50 years after he passed it still looks amazing. You and he would have gotten along, he was a gentle soul and loved wood.
Amazing! I had no idea such craftsman existed.
That was like my father. At one time he worked for McDonald Aircraft. They built our first space crafts. Someone left a cigarette burn ina Mahogany table in the owners office ce. He repair the table by hand drawing the grain. He also invented the paint that is seen on the space capsules
Please don’t tell me his name was Benjamin 😆. Sorry, no disrespect just my sense of humour. Best wishes ❤️
"then I remembered I lived in the UK *brings out electric blanket*"
That absolutely floored me laughing, it's got bloody chilly so suddenly and my new insulation doesn't seem to have helped any 😭
One day I hope to get one of your pieces to display in my home 💙
ha ha ha glad you enjoyed it 😉 if you're ever in Bristol, let me know
@@Flippingdrawers definitely. If I may be so cheeky, do you have a link to where you sell your pieces? Would give the poor CR-V a good run one day 😂
I'm so glad I'm not the only person who sits on a beach under a blanket instead of on one... I only wish I had an Ecoflow to be able to have the electric blanket too! :D I spend a lot of time in Whitby... the North Sea is a monstrously cold beast :D
Jay's a hoot!!!
This is called a gentleman’s wardrobe, and they don’t seem to make them any more. Nice job!
I was a little worried when I saw the beautiful wardrobe and wondered what you would do to it - I feared a 'modern' make over, but no you treated it with the respect it deserved and made it look wonderful. A very nice restore.
I am so happy to read this. I was worried about starting to watch and was looking for a trigger warning in case it was all painted. Thanks for this heads up!
I just love your sense of humor. The "commercial" had me giggling. As always, your work is amazing and the piece is gorgeous.
Thank you kindly ❤️
The commercial is very well made :)
How did the saw dust taste in your tea?
Okay, I love the commercial. Putting yourself into the commercial made it interesting to watch and got all of us out of the workroom and onto the chilly shores of Great Britain. Now I want an ecoflow delta2, an electric blanker, a latte, and a bagel topped with cocoa nutella. The furniture transformation was fantastic. I sincerely hope that there are younger people who will jump at the chance to own beautiful, old furniture.
That is so kind of you 🥰 thank you for watching ❤️
The friendly neighborhood cat is beautiful! Love what you accomplished with this wardrobe, beautiful finished ! God bless you!
Thank you! 😊
I’m not sure what I like more … your work or your sense of humor !
Thanks for the review of the Delta 2. It is really out of this world that it can fully charge in 80 minutes.
my pleasure
So he takes a break and goes to the seaside. And takes his wood and sander with him. Ja. Ja. Ja. Well at least you won't be cold. Great to see more of you in the videos. There is a human being behind this beautiful work.
Thank you. Not sure I’m human though 😂
That is probably the best 1kWh power station money can buy since it charges in 80 minutes.
It really is cool
Looks like Ecoflow has another ground breaking power station. A 1kWh power station that can charge in 80 minutes.
I love the piece and the supervisor with the floofy tail!!!
I love your acceptance of limitations you had with this piece but continued to make it the best it could be. You have such a calm demeanor which is enjoyable
Thank you very much!
You do such great work, restoring pieces like this to (as close as you can to) their original glory! Amazing. Beautiful.
When we were children, my brother had the identical wardrobe. The only thing I remember being slightly different was his wardrobe had a tie rail and a small tray inside the back of the door. The tray was marked _collar studs_
I really like watching craftsmen deal with unexpected and "unsolvable" problems. You learn more about the reality and requirements of the craft and develop a real appreciation for the skill and ingenuity required to do a first class job. What you accomplished with this piece is beyond words. I'm so glad I found your channel.
I’m so glad you have 🥰 thanks
Such a beautiful veneer, glad you brought her glow back. I'm happy to see a sensitive restoration that doesn't completely erase the history of the piece!
I second this! Just a beautiful restoration that preserves the decades this piece has seen. During the video, I was thinking about all of the generations of clothes that had hung on those rods, all of the quilts that might have been stored in the drawers, the many mothers that might have handed this down to their daughter on their wedding day, all of the history that has happened all around it. It really is breathtaking and this was just a real pleasure to watch.
Agree, he did a lovely job here.
Loved your "commercial"! Thanks for giving us a good laugh. The wardrobe is beautiful. Thank you for doing your best to preserve this grand old piece!
The maker would be thrilled to see this piece look so beautiful after so many years!
I haven't seen any other power station brand offer a 5 year warranty on their power station.
What a lovely and useful piece of furniture. You brought her back to life and gave her another 100 years of pleasure to someone. Thank you for sharing this video. I really enjoyed it.💜
That was the best CZcamsr commercial I’ve ever seen. I enjoyed seeing the ocean and beach and the idea of sitting out there with a heated blanket and hot coffee was very appealing. Great refurbish job on the wardrobe too!
I am so happy to see someone with respect for this beauty restoring it back to it's glory and not just slap a few coats of chalk paint and some stenciling on it. Beautiful work!
I do love the 3000 charge cycle it has. It will definitely last me a decade of use.
😁 Happy weekend Jay!!!
Happy weekend to you too😉
You have the cleanest woodworking workshop I've ever seen! 😅😂 Thank you for the great content! I watch each and every one.
Thanks for watching 😉
Some slight imperfections in wood are good , like us humans also have scars and they sometimes tell a story about where we’ve been . The finest leather in the world also has imperfections and that is what makes it perfect !
Your sense of humor slays me!! Best advertisement ever!😂~ Debbi
Awesome 🤩
It’s a beautiful veneer on it and you’ve done an amazing job on the restoration but when you got the electric blanket out on the beach I lost it. I love what you do and you always brighten my mood up so thanks
Thank you! 😊
That is a beautiful piece of furniture. You brought it back wonderfully. I enjoyed watching you playing with the generator on the beach. Quite funny!
Oh, and I quite enjoy when the nosy neighbor shows up, seeming to ask questions.
Glad you enjoyed it
The burl veneer was definitely worth saving -- what a gorgeous piece
Jay!!!! My powdered-wig is off to you!!!! Wow!!! She looks just so new and charming!!!! What a great interesting piece. All that you care about with regard to these restorations, shows mightily….BRAVO🤩😱🥰😇!!!!
Thank you Juanita 😊 this was definitely a challenge and I learned a lot.
Jay, the film of you taking a personal day was so pretty…can I ask where you were? I have ocean views right from my living room and my bedroom with a sun rise that is heavenly. God is the greatest artist to me. Jay, I have a tiny family…a boy and a woman! We are all grown up now and we just enjoy our company. For the very first time, all three of us worked in synchronicity while we were together. It was a gift that I will cherish. My daughter lives in Nebraska and my son is five miles from me. We had so much joy that I am still walking in a dream because it was so nice. I wanted you to know that. I don’t know why but I cannot wait for your videos because your filming is really good about what you do and I like the way you treat your pieces. You have character traits that come across in your handling of yourself and the work you love to do. It is a breath of fresh air to see something long abandoned come back to a new life under your careful work. I think I love restorations because history is discarded every day. We make beautiful things. Then they wear out and get thrown away! You are a rescuer and a fine one at that!!! Please know that you are special and gazing at the ocean and horizon is part of YOUR RESTORATION WORK… thank you for sharing that with all of us!🤗🥰😇
You do a beautiful job.
You are so meticulous and patient! This is a beautiful piece of furniture that you’ve made even more beautiful!❤❤❤
Wow wow wow you just leave a person speechless I wondered about this one and you came thru
I’m glad you’re not disappointed 😉
Your attention to details just blows me away. You truly enjoy what you do. The end results speaks volumes to your patients and skills
What a unique and lovely piece. So happy you kept the original finish! It is beautiful! Enjoy your content! Your neighborhood kitty seems to approve as well. 😊
It does not seem to matter what sort of restoration you undertake the outcome is always exceptional.
I very much enjoy all of your CZcams content.
It's absolutely lovely! Also isn't the hardware inside the wardrobe sophisticated in design, the coat hanger rack that telescopes out is superb and the shoe rack! It reminds us that even wealthy people who would have owned this did not need so many clothes!
I agree, and thank you for watching
Another great project. Your attention to detail never ceases to amaze me. The burled wood veneer is so beautiful, it's always been a favorite of mine. Thanks for sharing you talent and love of restoration with the world.
Thanks for watching 😊
What an incredible piece! After nearly 100 years, perfection would be impossible. That being said, I think you did an amazing job!
Oh how I love to the old have a second life. I am a big fan of the 30’s & 40’s furniture. This is truly awesome. Thank you for you time and talent.Cheers
Wow what an amazing job it turned out really beautiful I 😍 it. We are always more critical of our own work I know I am only one person but I thought it really was amazing 👏 ✨️
Thanks so much! 😊
A beautiful restoration to a magnificent work of art.
Thank you for saving this treasure to live another century.
10/10 for your sponsorship spot - as someone living in the drafty regions of Scotland, I am having mobile tassimo envy!
Great restoration too. I love seeing old furniture having new life breathed into it. Keep up the good work, and enjoy your lattes!
Thank you 😊 I really tried to make the ad interesting so really appreciate the feedback.
Loved it! What a great job on a beautiful old piece.🐝🤗❤️
Wonderful work! I love how you kept the finish and restored this with your passion to detail!
I've heard of burling for years, but never thought to wonder how it got that way...now I know, thanx to you!---There used to be a TV show called THE FURNITURE GUYS, & Joe Larrario was the shelac guru, his partner Ed Feldman was the upholsterer. Those two were so talented, but what goof balls! They revived the show a few years ago, on You Tube, but it sadly didn't catch on.
Cool, might have a look
I loved those guys! I learned so much from them like always do a "spit coat" 10% diluted and sand between layers!! Thanks for reminding!
@@tinamcivor2996 "HORSE HAIR"!!!
My favourite polish Englishman with a tint of welsh accent, you did very well today, this is what I like to see you do best and! Just over 20 mins too, no shorts today 👍🏻
Greetings for 1st advent
Ha ha thank you 🙏 very much appreciated
It's so good to see a craftsman at work.
I have discovered your videos recently. I am pushing 80 and my wife is early seventies. A few years ago we transformed a 1903 piano into a "piano bar" . Of course there had to be some dang holes in the veneer. My beautiful bride painted the "grain" and colored them so well. I knew where to look but saw nothing. No longer do I build furniture with the exception of family orders so I enjoy watching videos like yours. Keep the faith......
Awesome 🤩. Thank you for watching
I enjoy watching your videos! Your attention to detail is wonderful. This wardrobe was definitely improved by you!! ❤
💜
Beautiful piece!! As we age we have “scratches, dents and dings” too. So not surprised that a 100 year old piece has them too. It’s character with an untold story. 😎
WOW...stunning...you did an excellent job. What a beautiful wardrobe, and that burlwood GORGEOUS!!! I appreciate that you kept it true to the original craftsmanship. Can't wait to see what you do next.
Thank you ❤️
I laughed so hard when you took out your electric blanket at the beach. 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Love it! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍👍👍😀💕💕
😁
And once again, I was captivated by your workmanship.
I don't ever say this, but my favorite part of the video was the sponsored segment. 😀 Love the gentle refesh of this wardrobe! You really brought back the glow of the original piece.
Lol I can see why 😂😂😂
So cool. Unbelievable wood & creation!
~LOVE the comments you inspired & like many viewers, the “view” you took us on. You gift us with many creative surprises. Thank you, again 🦄
Amazing job, its fantastic and inspiring to see your evolution ☺️ Thanks for another great video full of tips and tricks 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
As always, thanks for watching 🙏
"On-the-job training"
Exquisite Piece.
14:22 👏👏👏👏👏THE BEST AND MOST SYMPATHETIC ADVERTISING I'VE EVER SEEN!
I was always ashamed to use Parkside tools, but you are my hero now.
Why would you be ashamed mate? Some of them are very good 👍
Hi Friendly Neighborhood Cat!
That's a stunning piece! You did a fantastic job restoring it!
I have so enjoyed watching your progress as a furniture restorationist.
This was a great project. It is beautiful. And...there is no such thing as perfect, it's a reference point to aspire towards. 😀
Thank you !
What a beautiful piece! The burl wood is stunning and thank you so much for not painting it!
Great result with the wardrobe - the "painted veneer" was unusual . . . . . and yet another CZcamsr with an Ecoflow promotion😀
Thank you. You do understand that this is my job right? I wouldn’t be able to spend a week or more making a video and get nothing out of it. I’d end up on the street.
1st time I’ve seen one. I’ll bet Jays was the best! 😂
@@Flippingdrawers i dont think he meant anything negative about the ecoflow ad :)
What a beautiful wardrobe! You did an amazing job.
This wardrobe is smiling with pleasure from what you've done to her☺️
SUPERB JOB! I love that you stayed true to the original finish ensuring that it is historical accurate! GORGEOUS & a project very well done!! BRAVO!!!!!!!❤
What a beautiful end product, amazing job.
❤️
I love burl wood. The grain is just wonderful.
So glad you left this as original as possible! That is really strange about the banding on the front under your he drawers, that it may have been painted! Wonderful job, I loved it. Also, wonderful job matching the veneer you replaced on the door! Take care!
Thank you 😊
I love watching you bring these prices back to life!
By far the best sponsor and I've ever seen 😂
awesome, thank you ;-)
What a beautiful old wardrobe! You really made it shine and look amazing! That burlwood is the most gorgeous
I have ever seen! I can see why you wanted to restore it. It’s a stunning piece! I just love old antique pieces, and have a house full of them that I treasure. They always make me smile! To me, the craftsmanship of old pieces is so much better than we see today with new furniture.
Thank you for showing us your techniques. I also try to bring back antique pieces to their former glory. I only do minor repairs though and do use fix-a-finish quite a bit, but I have learned a lot from you so I might be able to do more now.
👍👍👍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😀💕🌸🌱
A fan from Southern California, USA.
awesome, thank you ;-)
Heirloom quality piece. Gorgeous work
You would have to pry that piece out of my cold dead hands!!!! It is glorious!!! I have an absolute obsession with burl wood and have furniture envy right now!!! You do such incredible work and I enjoy watching your channel 💖
Lovely lovely cupboard.
Good job! 💕
A labour of love, Jay. It's so good to watch you work and hear your explanations about restoring. BRAVO! It's beautiful.♥
That’s a neat old piece of furniture - nothing like you see nowadays, at least around here. Turned out lovely.
It's the imperfections the give it it's personality. A nice needs personality.
The unique burl pattern on the wood is beautiful! Yet another amazing transformation!!!
Thank you! 😊
I've seen a lot of restorations like this, but what you're doing is just magical. You work with so much energy to restore the pieces. It's a real joy. Every detail is taken into account, every little corner is repaired. Wonderful. And then your cats always in between! Splendid. I have Maine Coone cats myself and know how affectionate they are. Keep it up. You are an artist!
So kind 😍. Thank you
In 1980, I bought a beautiful 2 story duplex in Long Beach, CA.. It was built in the 1910s and had a lot of unpainted beautiful woodwork. The interior woodwork surrounding the window were exposed wood and (obviously) the window frames were wood. However, the wood of the window frames would NEVER match the wood surrounding the windows. So someone painted the window frames to match the wood surrounding the windows. An artist friend of mine called it “faux bois”!
I’ve been wondering what you were going to do with this piece! It’s unusual and beautiful - well done!😊
Great to see a beautiful piece of furniture restored to it's full glory. Makes me wonder who used to own it...
Love your day off. We all need a recharge at times. Beautiful project.
Yes! Thank you!
That was the best advertisement for batteries I’ve ever seen😆! Great work on the furniture piece too
Wow, thanks! I tried really hard to not make it boring 😉
Beautiful piece. Great job. You gave it just what it needed. A face lift.
I found a little wardrobe similar to yours at a consignment shop about 30 years ago. Mine was Oak veneer and had plastic decorations glued onto it... painted white, it was a nightmare to get the bits of white paint from the grain of the veneer... Mine had a surprise for me as when I got it home I saw some tiny hinges near the top of the back and indeed, the whole top of it lifted up to reveal a hidden place where one could store valuables and no one would suspect it was there. Later I gave mine away, but seriously have regretted that many times as it was so unique and ended up very beautiful after a great deal of work. I used a Danish Oil to finish it, and the wood looked amazing after. It was hard to understand why anyone had painted it. Mine had the same little side shelves inside, but not the drawers. I thought perhaps it was a child's wardrobe. Yours is wonderful with that burl veneer.
You have performed a just restoration. My compliments.
Beautiful work. the friendly cat is also beautiful .
Thank you so much 😀
I loved the beautiful veneer on this piece. You did a great job bringing out the warmth it should have. I love to see lovely wood grain in a piece of furniture and this one is beautiful again thanks to you. 😄
He definitely adopted you 😻😹😹😹
I’m a proud stepdad 😂
He definitely is a sweetheart and I love the flooffy tail!
Wow. Thinking outside the box is one of your many strengths. The simple idea of frosting the glass takes this beautiful piece of furniture over the top. Well done Sir
Thanks mate. 💛
Restor-a-finish is amazing stuff! Keeps my furniture and cabinets looking great!
Wonderful!
I love ArtDeco it turned out so beautiful after your work.
Carsten 👍
Gorgeous piece of furniture, and fine restoration job you did. Bravo!
Loved your day off commercial. Made me laugh out loud. You do such wonderful work. I'm a big fan!
Glad you enjoyed it! 💛
