Had my FJ for 9 years. Great vehicle. I left mine all stock, because it is perfect as is. And stock parts are made to last as well. Hasn't needed a single thing other than standard fluid replacements. Stock battery lasted 9 years as well! It was still working, but last winter I noticed less power starting in sub 30F weather. So, figured it was time.
@FJMatt Yeah I've had some Jeeps I modded. But I offroad often and have realized stock is more than most people need. Just need proper tires (I use Duratrac). With thr FJ I didn't want to mess it up with aftermarket add ons which often don't last long and are low quality.
I replace the stock battery at 9 years also. Not sure it really needed it but I was prepping for a 2 month 10000 mile drive to Alaska and North West Canada.
Great job on the FJ! Liked the inside of the FJ cool little simple changes you did to it, plus the sound proofing was a good idea too. The closing of the door sounded solid like they should've done at the factory! RIGHT ! :) Awesome looking little mods in the back too!
Very Nice, Matt. I love the blacked-out the silver accents. It definitely modernizes the aesthetic. I have the same floor matts and key fob. Love both. I absolutely need to sound proof my doors and rear, my aftermarket exhaust gets annoying lol.
Well I like the touches! The bison gear rear door is great. I also might paint my sub but really don’t know yet on the color. Might just pull the trigger on the AJT remote cover and the gear shift knobs have always been on the list.
Thanks David! It’s luckily a fairly simple process, but I could see about making a video!! If you get to it before that, here’s what I would recommend. After pulling off the parts, you’ll want to scuff them with some pretty fine grit sand paper, and then I personally used a black spray paint that the local auto body supply store sold. If I remember right, it was a semi-gloss, and it gives just enough shine without sticking out too much.
I also have a FJ 2007 and I enjoy it every day. I have been looking at roof racks and was wondering if you are happy with yours and what brand did you pick?
Dude, finding this video is so awesome for me. I’ve been wanting to update the interior of my Xterra so badly. super high on my to do list is to grab some interior parts from the junkyard and test SEM interior paints. Also, I hope to own an FJ someday, but I’ve been afraid that I would get sick of the interior. Damn now I wish I could afford to run out and buy one right now and start doing up the interior. I could go on. I love that front bumper. A lot of bumpers look great, but they look way too heavy. And a lot of tubular bumpers look a bit lighter weight but not as purty.
I’m glad you liked it! Painting interior parts can make such a difference, and in some ways I would like to black out even more stuff. Haha. X-Terra’s are pretty sweet, it’s a shame Nissan killed them off as well.
You might consider keeping some of the panels a light color, like maybe a two-tone. I had a 1st-gen and then a 2nd-gen Chevy Volt, both with black interiors. Actually the 1st gen seats were two-tone black & cream leather, pretty sweet. Forget what the dash looked like. I thought they looked great, but then I once had a friend getting carsick, and wondered if it was because it was so dark inside, even during the day. I also have a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited, with two-tone black & beige interior, and love it. I realized I no longer like dark interiors, and they seem to dominate. My Xterra isn't actually that dark, but the grey plastic is so blah, especially in in the southwest with all the dust. I think all 3rd gen Tacomas come with either grey or black interiors, and wish they had some friggin color. I can't wait to check out the colors in the 4th gen.
I have a 2014 Iceberg white FJ, my 2nd FJ, 1st was an 08 Black Diamond, sold it & hated life without an FJ 😂 love your mods, might have to copy , some things 😉
Import Spec Auto Group sells them on Instagram. This wouldn’t work on a 4runner, but if you have an Instagram page, reach out to @yotasurf. He found a company that makes 4runner ones.🤙🏼
As I said on your previous video, pllllleeeaasssee change the stock radio! It is horrendous!! I just finished deadening the doors, will put high end sound system next 😇. Bad assed FJ, Matt!! Love it!
Hahaha. I just don’t feel any need right now, but I really wish it was black, and not silver. I was trying to see if the black one from other years would just swap in but then I lose the custom startup.😂
Haha fair enough. I at least got the slightly upgraded system. My FJ is just so loud otherwise, that a nicer sound system didn’t really make sense. Haha
Hey Matt thanks for the video…..i got my 2022 model FJ cruiser in Bahrain around two months ago….have just started modifying it…this video of yours was very inspirational. Cant wait to start the process….mine is also white colored
Is there a way you could provide the links or general website where you got everything? Like the steering wheel, the grab handles, door handle covers. Thanks!
The pillars are actually plastidip. If I could go back, I would probably use paint though. I would recommend lightly sanding any of the silver and clear sub-woofer parts, however, the A-pillars I would just spray so you don’t ruin the texture of the plastic.🤙🏼 There are a lot of spray paints that are made for use with plastic, so I would look for a semi-gloss in one of those.
So I actually got it from a friend who 3d printed it. If you would like one, I could definitely put you in contact with him! That’s definitely a good suggestion to link each part.

@@fj_matt ha, ha! no, no, no, don t try to swindle me with cheap stuff! out of both, only the fj makes it up the mountain, and you know that! The steering wheel is from Import-spec Auto Group on Instagram. I am personally scared of airbags, so I had a shop install it. Haha, I don’t think it was a very hard install, though.
I have a 2012 FJ and was talked into putting a pro comp 6 inch lift. The so call experts said I would break my cvc joints with out it if I was to go with larger tires. Can you do a video on the fabrication on the lift and what you needed to do? The FJ looks amazing and thank you for the leads on certain add ons.
Hey man, thanks for the comment! It’ll be hard to fully go through things here on a comment, but I’ll try to help. Unfortunately, those so called ‘experts’ don’t know what they are talking about. That said, they might have done a 6” lift depending on what size tires you have. Do you know what size they put on? My entire lift is just a bolt on kit with no drop bracket. Your 6” lift being a pro-comp I believe means that it’s just a bolt on drop bracket and could be reversed. Some of the 6” lifts require cutting the frame so you can’t change it even if you want to move to just a 3” kit. If that’s what you are looking to do, I would recommend finding a specialized toyota 4wd shop to do the work. Let me know if you would like to chat more!
Yup! You just remove each part and then scuff them and paint. I used the satin black that was specifically made to work well on plastic without needing a primer.🤙🏼
It’s from Import Spec Auto Group on Instagram. I don’t think they have a 4runner one, but @yotasurf would be able to tell you where he got his 4th Gen wheel!
What paint did you use to blackout the A-pillars? I’m going to blackout all of my interior and i’ve been going back and forth on trying to color match it with the original black.
So for those, I actually used a rubber paint, kind of like plasti-dip, but I’d recommend just normal paint. Everything else that has been blacked out is actual paint that I got from an autobody supply shop. I can’t remember the brand, I’d suggest looking for one that doesn’t require primer.

hope to see more FJ content
The next FJ video will be it getting the 37s bolted on, and then the following one will be about the custom firewall tub and some other cool stuff to go with them.🤙🏼
FJ or Bronco? If you were to choose which one will you pick?
I should have more experience with the Bronco soon, so it’ll be a topic I’ll talk more about.🤙🏼
Well done sir
I appreciate it!
Where’d you get the steering wheel? I’d like one for my 4Runner
It’s from Import Auto Spec on Instagram. They don’t have a website yet.
I wondered what the click was. I WD’d the heck out of it on my ‘12 “FJB Edition” and it still clicks. Do you have a link for the door part?
This link should work. It’s for the ones I used! www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/toyota,2010,fj+cruiser,4.0l+v6,1445186,body+&+lamp+assembly,door+check,11406
I grew up with my brothers in the back of a 100 Series Land Cruiser 🥹
That’s awesome! My brother and I shared the back row of the 80 series!😁
Please don’t ever sell your FJ. You have tamed that beast to perfection 💯 💪🏾
Haha I don’t have any plans to right now!
@@fj_matt how much you plan to sell it for? Lol
Nice Set-up Matt! Where did you get the door catcher/bumper? TIA!
Do you mean the silver part for the rear door that I replaced, or the black hinge part for the front door?
Cheers
@fj_matt now that you mentioned those two,can you give the details for both? TIA!
@@judgefmbI don’t have the part numbers handy, but would you like me to find links for both?
@@fj_matt yes please!
@@judgefmb I hope this helps!
