- All 3 LEGO Star Wars Republic Fighter Tank sets look substantially different. In this comparison we go through which Fighter Tank set looks the best, is the best value for your money, and has the best Minifigures! The Clone Wars themed Minifigures also range from good to GREAT in each set! The NEW 187th Clone Troopers & Mace Windu are FANTASTIC whilst the OG Clone Wars Troopers are good, and the small 2017 model's Minifigures disappoint with more Battle Droids than Clone Troopers...

My favourite is probably the 2017 tank
My favorite is the 2022
2008 great vid
2008 is the best
I remember buying it in 2009 great memories
2017 (just because I never got to experience the 2008 one because that’s e year I was born)
When you realize the $40 fighter tank has more clones than the 2013 AT-TE… LEGO needs to make more clone sets like this.
2013?
@@gladosbutstupid8807 Yeah, it only has 1
@@gladosbutstupid8807 yep it’s had like 1
@@JohnRumelfanger I meant that there was a republic fighter tank in 2013?
@@JohnRumelfanger oh wait I’m stupid I thought you were talking about the fighter tank not the at-te.
The minifig selection for the 2008 fighter tank is literally the most common figs you could get during the time. 2017 had an exclusive phase 2 gunner and exclusive Aylaa Secura plus 2 battle droids. Definitely better in my opinion, though the 2022 fighter tank has the overall best minifigure selection
It’s just mandr’s n nostalgia
@@Lon_8306 true, those AP1’s are an absolute classic
As a kid I strongly preferred army building selection over the presence of hero characters, because otherwise they ended up doubled up which made some useless for play, when I could jusy have more stormtroopers or battle droids. As an adult collector it doesn't matter to me. But, being an advocate for kid me, more sets with a greater number of generic soldiers is preferable.
@@HisCarlnessI that’s a good point
@@HisCarlnessI as a kid you wouldent have the money to buy this set 10 times
2017 is underrated, it looks the most accurate. Sure it’s small but I think it looks perfect to an actual tank
The other ones are too big especially the og one that one is huuuuge
I agree, the others are a bit off, especially compared to the actual in game material from Battlefront. 2017 is the best for me.
It’s also nicely detailed for the price
Same
completely agree
I disagree with the 2008 set having better figures than the 2017 set. I don’t think the Republic fighter tank is necessarily a “Clone Set” but more of a “Republic set.” Now the latest version has become a clone set, but even still, the 2017 set gives you the tank, a clone to pilot it, a Jedi to command him, and two enemies to fight the battle droids.
I made this comment way too long but oh well.
I also despise the old clone (even phase 2) and think they look vile
@@omarbaba9892 agreed. Personally I hate the animated styles and think LEGO should make all figures in the same style, regardless of what media they come from.
For me the 2014 realistic Clones were the best.
@@callumpears1523 fcking THANK YOU. If they continue this god awful 2020 design any longer I’m gonna scream
@@devenpapineau6261 glad to see I'm not the only one. That style is why I didn't army build the new 501st troopers and am not planning on getting any of the new Clone minifig packs.
Honestly I'm hoping they go back to the 2014 style before Phase 2 Cody happens. It would cause me physical pain if a figure I've wanted since the Utapau Troopers set in 2014 ends up being made with the ugly 2020 armor style.
Especially since those two clones were shoved into every other set and a battle pack a few months later. The P2 Clone Gunner and Aayla Secura are both exclusive and new figures.
I'd be interested to see whether or not it's possible to improve on the look of the 2022 design with 2 or 3 of this set.. feel like it's a set people will buy multiple of anyway to army build the 187th so maybe possible to bulk up the large flat wall on either side of the tank and make it look a little better, maybe even get rid of that gap at the front?
It’ll probably be possible
I was thinking the same thing when I watched his review of the new tank earlier today 😂😅
The gap on the front Ill fix by just replacing those pieces with two 1x2 white or one 1x4 white pieces
Im holding out for a hero to post a good modification to the build
@@meutainer8696 same
Personally while I love the 2022 minifigure selection, my favorite is the 2017 one because I really like the build and how compact it is.
I do think the 2017 one gets the look of the vehicle the best. The proportions are just right, even if it is undersized. The 2022 one definitely is more sized accurate, but it does have some proportion issues. And the 2008 one just looks too big and too bulky.
@@aydenjenkins8760 no the 2017 size is more accurate than the 2022 one. Do u ever played bf2? The Republic fighter tanks are small
@@Cengo458 they are small, but they do fit 2 clones. The 2017 one can only fit one clone, so it is undersized.
@@aydenjenkins8760 I think that with such a compact tank it is really difficult to give enough space for 2 minifigures and at the same time have the right proportions because Lego pieces are relatively thick and therefore Lego has to decide wether they make the tank too big to give enough space for the figures or make it more accurate but then having only space for one figure. I prefer to have less space and to make it more accurate especially if one for example wants to make Stop-motion with it.
@@holocronbrickproduction8167 that is true, Lego is hard to make an accurate sized vehicle with enough room for space. I do agree, the smaller but more accurate looking build is better than the oversized build that can hold more figures. I think the more I look at the 2017 build, the more I like it.
Minifig scale refers to the overall dimensions of the model, not the amount of figures you can fit inside of it… It’s not fair to expect Lego to design sets at that scale because it can be difficult to fit figures in at times, and they have certain price points that they have to hit/certain stability and playability standards they have to meet for their models. That being said, the 2017 model is the closest to Minifig scale, and has more accurate proportions, and in my opinion that puts it above the other two. Not to mention that with some (admittedly heavy) modification, you could easily fit two minfigs inside without sacrificing the proportions.
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one thinking this. Really frustrating to see a comparison vid that calls out people for nit-picking things like scale.... And then immediately nitpicks other elements with clear biases in mind.
M&R is def entitled to his opinions but I think he expects something totally different out of LSW than many others do.
@HypJii Very convincing… I must concede.
I feel like it's important to mention, that these three aren't based of the same model. The 2008 and 2022 comparison is fair, yeah. But the 2017 version is a different type of tank. only one clone can fit in there which already means, that everytime he says "two clones can't fit in there", he's right, because that's the way it's supposed to be. this whole review is like comparing an AT-AT to an AT-M6. Just doesn't make sense
It’s not important
@@nignam How?
That is right, the 2017 fighter tank is a slightly different version of the vehicle in universe.
Could you tell me the names of both of those tanks?
@@nignam Wdym? It definitely matters?
I feel like being more minifig scale is valid when the vehicle is small enough to actuall be made to scale
Thing is when its small enough it shows how bulky lego figures are compared to humans. We've had plenty to scale landspeeders, but none that fit Luke, Obiwan, R2D2, and C3PO because its nearly impossible to do at minifig scale.
@@jettrooper101 Totally agree, when it comes to trying to make something to scale it’s hard because of things like minifig proportions
2:23 early tank has 2 lackluster clones while middle tank has a cool gunner and Able Secura
Man those nostalgia goggles must have been pretty cloudy during this comparison.
True
I love when he was talking about how the 2008 model rolls better, and then lined them up and pushed them all and the 2022 one went farther
You must not have taken any physics courses in school
I've got to say, the size differences here are nuts. I'd be interested to know if there is any other Lego star wars vehicle that has varied so wildly? Perhaps the vulture droid? Also, gotta say that I do like the 2022 size the best...and I feel like a total traitor to the 2017 model.
The slave 1 models vary quite drastically as well
AAT has had quite significant size changes
@@Fofilolipop True that
All lego sets are smaller today unless a ucs set
Why no one saying republic gunship??? They vary quite heavily
The 2017 one is accurate for crew complement. It's the tank's original variant from the 2002 The Clone Wars game; it was a single-seater there, and a variant with an exposed manned turret on top was added by Battlefront.
Nostalgia has blinded you, 2017 will always be the best (In terms of a build) and you know it
100%
The design of the 2017 one is great. If it was the size of the 2008 one or even the 2022 one it would be the best
2017 is the best
@@_kommandant_3055 no maybe the 2022 size but 2007 is way to big
Hell no. 2017 sucks
I think the newest one is the best all around set. It's a good middle ground in size and offers way more figures at it's comparative price point.
Yes, the new one is the best for.
You can just order extra parts to make it significantly bigger for about 9-12$, it's lego after all
@@Shvetsario even less but yeah lol
oh my gosh i never realized how massive that 2008 one is.
It’s goated
@@MandRproductions lol i definitely realized that after this video
@@MandRproductions And also terribly proportioned.
@@williamerwin7094 accuracy wasnt as much of a picky point as it is nowadays because they didnt have as many pieces to build from, it was generally seen as just a lego version and accounted for playability mostly but nowadays with the crazy variety of new lego pieces it allows for sets even the smaller ones to be ridiculously accurate and fans know this so theyre alot more picky about design flaws
I personally like the 2017 one because it was the one I actually owned and I remember playing with it a lot
I think the 2017 tank is the best of the three here. The 2008 is too big for what it needed to be, I know you say that’s something you like about it but I’m of the opinion it’s unnecessary. I think the 2017 figure selection is better than 2008, I think it’s proportions are better, and I think it looks better generally.
I can see that only getting one clone isn’t great, but I’d still prefer that over two shinies.
I know Lego doesn’t usually care about minifig scale, and it’s not necessarily realistic to expect them to make sets at that scale, but it’s definitely a valid reason in my opinion to rank the 2017 model higher. (Minifig scale being the dimensions, not the amount of figures that can fit inside the vehicle…) at the end of the day it’s all subjective. That being said, I also agree with just about everything you had to say.
thing is for a kid for example, the 2008 one has a lot of playability and moving parts, the 2017 one is basically a compact stack of lego bricks. The 2022 one keeps the size accuracy of the 2017 tank while bringing to the table some more playability (still not to 2008 level).
I personally prefer the 2017 tank, because it's so sleek and manageable. So there are fewer finicky gimmicks, but it's more manageable for a small child to play with, and easier to display and store. Aayla Secura is also a far rarer character than Mace Windu, but I'll admit that not having a regular clone (especially when this is phase two era) is disappointing.
I think you can actually fit all three clone troopers in the new model because of the space behind the front clone seat. Commander bricks shows this in his review of the set.
i like how they tried something diffterent with all them instead of just straight up re-releasing it
I wish they would just re-release TCW sets. Back in 2008, I got like 3-4 sets a year and obviously missed out on a lot of gems, like this one or the AT-OT with dropship.
I bought the 2017 version simply because of Aayla Secura. I think aesthetically the fighter tank of 2017 is more pleasing looking than the other 2.
😏kinda sus
i like the 2017 model design-wise, if it was bigger it might actually be the best set. the 2007 version has the size and more play/display function. 2022 is decently sized and good minfigs but the way they built the nose throws the whole set off for me.
2017 is my fav. But it should have come with more clones
Yeah it would have been a perfect opportunity for an updated 327th Clone with Aayla.
you cant even say that the 2016 tank has better figures than the 2008 one... you're on some other shit dude 🗿
I would say that the 2022 model is just based of the OG battlefront and is pretty accurate to it at that
I really dont think it's as bad as people originally said, especially with the clones it's really good! I like lego doing non canon content
Edit: (the new one)

@@lomionic8306 he really is
The 2008 one just looked weirdly big, it was completely unnecessary, also the 2017 version had better figures, I mean 2 phase one clones with some classic accessories isn’t going to beat an almost perfect Aayla secura and a nice looking clone gunner
I’ve got the 2017 version and I’m going to get the 2022 version when it releases, while my decision was decided by the minifigures the build is alright and in my opinion the second best out of the three
Honestly I am really exited to get this set. I don’t know why it has so much hate, I think it is amazing.
Personally I don’t really like the build but the minifigures are stellar so I might buy it.
I think it’s great too, the tank is a little strangely shaped at first glance but if you really look at it for a while it’s my favorite of the bunch.
I really don't get what people hate about the build either. It's not as good as 2008, but still looks pretty decent imo
Im gonna buy 5
I like the new one too. I don't they could've done a better job at making the front look better and not have the gap though
the big tank was such a masterpiece when it comes to playability tbh.
Great comparison, I enjoyed your review of the new tank. Happy to have an awesome Mace minifigure though
Why does this comment seem creepily artificial
After I saw this comparison, I think the 2017 one isn‘t actually that bad….
Its the best! 2017 is the greatest.
That's because it isn't
2017 one gets a bunch of unnecessary hate
@@thelegoman4705 Agreed
@@thelegoman4705 it does look good, it's just it lacks playability (assuming you are buying it to a kid), for a collector or just sw fan that isn't going to play with it the 2017 one is the most accurate out of the 3, the 2008 one is huge but offers a ton of playability and moving parts (i loved it as a kid lol), the 2022 seems like an hybrid of the 2 so far.
5:34 Every time you say "Clanke*R*", God kills a puppy.
That 2008 Fighter tank was a unicorn set for me for the longest time. It finally showed up in a local toy shop I visit and was blown away. Granted it was missing the figures and a few pieces (nothing I couldn't replace) but I grabbed it in a heartbeat. I believe I paid $60-70 for it but I didn't care, I finally had it.
i got the 2008 one for xmas when I was a little kid, and oh man does it have so many play features, the other 2 would never make a kid as happy as that behemoth of a tank full of moving parts and lil compartments.
The 2008 still the best version! Love for its size and detail. The 2022 only surpasses in minifigue count
i’m sorry but i just can’t agree with the mini figure category, 2017 having a phase II gunner and aylisa was so nice
I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure you can get rid of the gap by removing the modified 1x2 plate and replace it with a regular one
This set got WAY to much hate when it first was released. Thanks for the comparison! Always love them!
Definitely gonna get the new republic fighter tank and must have those 187th clones
I can’t say enough how much I regret walking by the 2017 tanks at JCPenney and not grabbing one
Eh the newer one seems like a lower detailed one without the tanker clone but it’ll work
2008 is best. It’s the biggest and just looks so much more solid but I would say the most recent has the best figure selection
Honestly it's too big to be accurate, it's more like a ucs set than a minifigure scale ine
@@gooselord7896 Agreed but with LEGO sets the accuracy of its scale doesn’t matter a whole lot to me sure it is to big for play scale but if I’m gonna display it I would rather it be big and not small
Agreed
The 2022 minifig selection is amazing yes but to me, the 2017 build is by far the best in my opinion and as I display the builds more than the figs it would be my clear choice.
I personally would choose the 2017 version as the best. I like the 2022 figure selection and overall size but I feel the scale is pretty perfect for 2017.
No, it's actually way too small
@@arturo8169 it looks most like a tank
I think Ryan's forgetting that the THX 180 saber tank which the Republic fighter tank is portraying was first piloted by Jedi before clones because of how fast it was ( it's so fast it's considered a Jedi starfighter on land) so adding Ayla Secura and one clone is lore accurate as the box art is portraying geonosis and Ayla Secura test piloted a saber tank on geonosis

The pricetag on it would be an utter nightmare, though. Screw that lol
No the 2007 kind of suck the 2017 is obviously the best
The old set is such a great build, but that new one is a really nice hybrid size with insane mini-figs
very helpful video; i have zero fighter tanks and i was on the fence about which one to buy, but now after seeing a very good comparison and having weighed the options, it seems the original clone wars one is the best
Thanks for the review love the content keep up the good work man. 😎
Isn't the 2017 set the only one with a phase 2 clone gunner
The 2008 one is the most accurately shaped but way too big, the 2017 isn't very accurate in shape but has the right size, the best one in terms of scale and accuracy is looking to be the 2022 one and when combined with the minifigs there's really no contest
I'm pretty sure the 2017 one is meant to be a different variant than 2008 and 2022 is a hybrid of both
The 2017 version is very accurate to the new Battlefront II design in shape and size.
@@hanzoshimada1872 I guess im just used to the og tank from battlefront and clone wars ps2
The 2022 one is the worst in terms of design accuracy but might be the best in terms of scale
Damn the 2008 fighter tank was ELITE lego bring that shit back
Minifig scale isn't a must for me but I also don't like when a set is absurdity larger than it. Can't get into the 08 I've always liked the 17 lol. Great video man
Personal favorite is the 2017 version. It's the most accurate and really captures the sleekness and low profile which what made me love the TX-130 Saber Tank in the first place. The other sets are just too ridiculously oversized, tall and disproportionate specially the 2008 version. Also there's no way the 2008 has superior minifigs over the 2017 version, regular p1 clone troopers are literally one of the most common minifigs during 2008 and it doesn't even include any interesting minifig unlike say the 2017 version which had an exclusive Aayla Secura minifig. Not owning the 2008 version until recently after paying with my kidney has definitely helped on preventing nostalgia from blinding me unlike how Anakin was blinded by love.
the reason they were so common tho was so kids could build their army 2008 had FAR more clone wars lego sets so the likes of jedi were in jedi specific builds or the bigger sets but as a collector if you bought one of each you wouldnt duplicate too much, its why jedi are so rare from the olds sets cause they were only in one because they dont want kids getting the same characters over so alot of the time they just put clones and droids in there to allow you to build an army so much easier, battle pack buying wasnt as big back then even if battle packs were around cause people wanted the vehicles aswell
i love how the 2022 has the least pieces but the box is almost double the size of the 2017 one

2008 - Best playability and features, lots of moving parts.
2017 - Most accurate size and design wise. Lacks playability tho.
2022 - Awsome minifigs. Brings to the table some of 2008's playability while keeping size accuracy. Has a weird shape tho in the torret.

Love the vids keep it up 👍
The OG one is the best build wise, but the 2022 one is the best minifigure wise. And goes decently on the build.
I know a lot of people dislike the 2022 fighter tank, but I actually like the build itself and prefer it over the 2017 fighter tank. And the mini figs for the 2022 fighter tank are also really good
Agreed late comment😂
Once I get the 2022 tank, I might add and modify the design to improve its look. I’ll remove the rear door function and just focus on allowing the turret position to have more profile and allow a figure to sit inside properly
You got this out so soon after the review. Nice
The design of the 2008 one just looks so rough compared to the newer two
Particularly with the bright red patches on the dark red sections and the trans-green bits on the sides.
I do like the angling of the sides, though.
I think the older models are more generous with their piece count and they make the build larger
Would love to see an updated video of your atte comparison video
The 2017 version is my favourite one, only because it’s the newer battlefront 2 one and I sweat that game!
I did get the 2022 one as well and used it to soup up the detail on the 2017 one, it looks so much better with the superior cannon, engine and closed hatch!
I think 2017 has the best design by far, it looks amazing, the proportions and the look is just menacing to look at. 2022 is absolutely horrendous though, especially from the front but the minifigs make it worth it.
The new one is overpriced but was also overhated

2022 is the best one by far! Most accurate and the 6 figs are amazing!
Idk you might be right

I love the 2017 version! It looks so good on big battlefields next to other vehicles such as the Atte!
The best one is hands down the 2008 model. The best modern one (2017,2022) is the 2022 model. It obviously has better figures than the 2017 model which in honest truth seems to have been made solely for play. The 2022 model seems to be a smaller less detailed version of the late 2008 model. So all in all 2008 is the best, second runner up is the 2022 model.
2022 definitely has the best figure selection. 2008 has the best build. The 2017 model is the most accurate.

Still really happy that i picked up the 2017 fighter tank when i did, and maybe my favorite of the three (though i don't have the 2008 one)

Just subscribed! Great comparisons! I just dropped a speed build for the 2022 tank. Definitely agree with you
*I had the 2008 Fighter Tank. It has fallen apart and been spread abroad in years gone by, ( I still have the parts... somewhere, and the Clones are safely kept) but the sentimental value of the set also played a part in my choice of favorite; the other two (though I have not had much experience with the 2022 due to it being new) felt like a minor (not serious) disrespect or injustice to the Tank and the set that came before it, so I didn't buy either. The only reason I would see me buying one is for the 2022's mini-figures, but I am not all too concerned with getting more.*
*I enjoyed the comparison and review, and I greatly anticipate your future videos. Thanks lots, mate.*
Thanks Ryan, great review! I would buy the 2022 tank over the other sets. Too many pluses to ignore, great deal at $49.99 CAD.
Man I love my 2008 republic fighter tank so much. I recently fished all the parts out of my lego collection and rebuilt it, same with my clone wars AAT.
I agree with most of this. I am definitely gonna get the 2022 for the minifigures, but I thing the cannons on it are too high and not far enough out. The 2008 one I have wanted for so long, but its just so expensive. One of my favorite parts that I have always found super cool is the turret, but they took that away. I think if they updated some of the bricks in the 2008 to be a little bit more modern, but kept the design, but put in the good minifigures of the 2022, it would be a super good tank.
10:16 umm wait is that commander doubling as a pilot oh no
I found a way to close the gap on the baby bump. It's a bit weird: you have to disconnect the hatch, fit it under the little ledge that normally prevents it from closing and then connect it while it's under.
Those 187th Clones look amazing!
