      Thanks man! Appreciate the compliment! Rising Sun has been a lot of fun to paint. Working on finishing up the video for Ebisu right now! Lotus clan will get featured as well at some point :D I'll see if I can squeeze them in here in the near future.

    Really wonderful job on the feathers, I'm almost speechless ;) I think I'll get a lot of inspiration from this video when I'll paint mines ;)
    Anyway I was also considering the possibility of painting one in a "more traditional" tengu style, so like crow/raven wings, mostly black... Any good suggestion as to how to obtain a similar effect with black feathers? Mostly what colour to use since I suppose starting with pure black wouln't be a good idea shading-wise and maybe also a simple grey not such a good option as highlight xD I suppose a bluish tint may work best? Looking forward any suggestion from such a talented painter ;)

    • @BandaInku
      @BandaInku  Před 6 lety

      Thanks dude! Appreciate the kind words :D
      For the raven-style wings, I'd probably try something like a black base coat for the darkest area, then add in a bit of turquoise for the "brighter" areas (blending them together) - then give it a dry brush of blue green to pop out the details of the feathers, then a wash of Drakenhof Nightshade (or some other blue wash) to help tone things down a little, and then do a final dry brush of blue green on the tips and any areas you want to pop more. That's what I'd try anyway. Just did something similar on the fur on the Turtle Clan Shinto (WIP pics over on Patreon) and I think it turned out looking pretty sweet.
      Could possibly end up looking something like this depending on how you layer things - img.etsystatic.com/il/0cf0ab/929507222/il_570xN.929507222_ousw.jpg?version=1
      Is that the kind of look you were thinking you'd want?

    Absolutely amazing stuff :D I love the color theory talk as I have no knowledge of it at all :D
    Ochre Brown pants FTW! Funny we both chose that :D Your mini is crazy good! Looks like mine on acid lol - that drybrushing effect worked wonders on this guy!

    • @BandaInku
      @BandaInku  Před 6 lety +2

      Thanks man! This dude was crazy fun to paint with all those blends and stuff. I thought the color theory stuff would be a nice addition since not many people mention that or are familiar with it.
      Ochre Brown is one of my favorite colors to use. (As you could prob tell by how many videos I've used it in)
      The drybrushing parts were prob my favorite. Fun to see all the feathers details pop out after the wash and drybrushing.

      For sure! Did you paint all 3 btw or just the one? If so, what was the total time for you? :D

    • @BandaInku
      @BandaInku  Před 6 lety

      I've painted 2 of them. Got 1 more to go cuz I didn't batch paint them this time. (Did a test run painting the 1st one to get the color scheme down then painted the 2nd on camera) So far I'm 20 hours in for the 2

      Yeah. Gonna try and speed paint the third now that I've got the colors all worked out and don't have to record it and see how quick I can get it done!

    Amazing stuff every time I see someone go into so much detail and awesomeness I just start to think. Times 6 times number of clans = one hell of a work and this is coming from a guy who is almost half way through painting War of the Ring :D

    Shinto son! This one really turned out! So much colour! Apologies for the pun but I just had to...
    With every painting video I see for this game I become more and more bummed that I didn't back it, but I would just be adding it to my ever expanding backlog of unpainted games. :)

    The wet blending technique came out beautifully on the feathers. Overall a gorgeous paint job, and while I don't have these minis, I'm encouraged by your result to try some more intense colors on mine.
    I'm not convinced that the huge gradient (black to steel) works well for metallic paints, though. There's something unconvincing about it, although it may look different in person than on camera. It looks ok as is, but I think if you'd used non-metallic paints in the same tones with exactly the same technique (long gradient + immediate contrast between sections), it would have been a gorgeous NMM result.

    • @BandaInku
      @BandaInku  Před 6 lety

      Thanks man! I can see what you mean on the swords. It's not quite as intense off camera though I could see why maybe a gunmetal or something would look more realistic. Still figuring out painting weapons so I'll keep that in mind for the future. :)

  • @Laterose15
    @Laterose15 Před 3 lety

    That blue and green gradient is so amazing! I'm totally stealing it for my Rising Sun minis. Out of curiosity, why did you paint the back of the wings brown instead of blue and green like the front?

    • @BandaInku
      @BandaInku  Před 3 lety

      I painted them different for two reasons - 1) because I envisioned what their functional purpose would be. From the outside (back) they'd be neutral and allow for them to be closed around the Bushi and could act as camouflage. But when they were open they'd be surprising and brilliant. Kind of like a peacock. 2) I wanted to be sure the inner feathers were a focal point on the mind that would naturally catch and hold a viewer's attention. Had I done both sides all colorful it wouldn't have had the same effect.

      Thanks man! That's interesting that they changed the name. Ochre maroon makes less sense than ochre brown IMO
