Wow. You truly brought this dragon alive
Thanks! This was a fun one
This is AMAZING piece
man, i've said this in other couple videos... but this is so good, so inspiring! You kill it everytime. It gets me pumped to get my own painting started.. even though it wont come off as nearly as good as this hahahaha Thanks for sharing man.
Interesting color scheme!
Yeah - Thought it'd be more interesting than the simplistic game art. :)
super nice video and I love the color combination and the work u have done with the base I have to try it!
Thanks man! That base was super fun to make.
Woo hoo! You're back. You've been missed. Great piece of work 🤘
Yeah Aug was a bit crazy and this dude took a fair amount of time to paint so I'm glad you like him! Extra points for you for using 🤘
More Rising Sun 😊👍 Nice Work!
Thanks man!
Epic!
I wish I was this good at my job
Wow that is beautiful. I am just getting into miniature painting and watching some of these tutorials makes me feel like I am way over my head. Thanks for the tutorial, it was very informative.
Hey! Welcome to the hobby! It's such a fun one to get into! I absolutely love it and have really enjoyed sharing it with everyone.
You can totally do it! I definitely understand the feeling of 'over my head'/overwhelmed, but just take it a bit at time and you'll be amazed how quickly you get things down and improve.
You should consider joining our Patreon & Discord server! It's been a great place for new painters like yourself to ask questions, get help and feedback, and simply enjoy connecting with other people in the painting world. All at various levels of experience and skill. We've got a really cool group on there. I think you'd really enjoy it.
Also, feel free to reach out with any questions you have - particularly while getting started. I know there's a ton to take in and I'd like to help as best I can to help ease the process 😊
That's a damn gorgeous river dragon. Good job.
Well thank you! He was a lot of work, but definitely worth it!
He looks like a lot of work. Well worth it though.
Absolutely masterful work! Every time I watch your videos I want to buy an airbrush :) Also I've never used the Vallejo water texture before, so it was great to see it used in such a creative way.
Thanks man! You really should get an airbrush. They're so fun! Also, the Vallejo Water Texture is fun :) This was actually my first time using it. I just barely go it :D Glad it turned out as well as it did!
Bandu's back :)
Nice job on that river dragon, mate. I don't have rising sun game but there are some tips I'll carrying over to other sets.
Thanks dude! I'm really happy with how he turned out :D
Amazing, was waiting for this and cant wait enough for you to paint the rest of the monsters :)
Any advice for someone not using air brushes?
Glad you enjoyed it! For the water, start with the light color and blend on the darker colors. You don't have to worry too much about perfect blends since water tends to vary in color all over. Also if you outline the edges like I did, it'll help distract from the blends a bit.
For the basing of the spikes, some two brush blending will be handy. Shading should be the same as the video since it was done with a brush, and then for highlighting the spikes and tail, some wet dry brushing will prob be easiest to begin the blend with. Then some glazing or other blending method on the bigger ones in particular to smooth things out.
If you've got any questions on what those methods are or how to do them, check out my first 'Beginner's guide to mini painting' videos called, 'Get that airbrush effect Without using an airbrush' (czcams.com/video/3OSE0csEn1s/video.html) and feel free to reach out as well and I'll try my best to help :)
Amazing stuff Thank you Banda! For your time, effort and everything!
I was really worried about painting my River Dragon, but seeing this gives me hope. I really enjoyed your explanation of different airbrush techniques here too. I just started using mine (just zenithal priming so far).
I see you using a few different brands of paint, is that just to get the color you want, or are there certain consistencies you're looking for? For instance, P3 metallics vs Game Color.
Glad to hear that it's encouraging for ya!
As far as paints go, I've mostly just been experimenting with the new P3 paints I just got to see how they compare to all the vallejo ones I've used and find which ones I like to use more from each range.
So far there are certain P3 paints I'm liking better (like the golds - they seem to coat better than Vallejo and are more smooth - apart from model color brass. Still love that color) but I also really like a lot of the Vallejo paints still.
Sometimes it's for ease of having a specific color, (though I could probably mix up a lot of all the colors from either range if I really wanted. Other times it's because one coats better than others (Khador red base for example is a really good red that bases well). Just depends :) Both ranges are really good and both have colors I really like.
This is an amazing mini and amazing painting. But I don't like your colour selection. Somehow it reminds me of the Signal toothpaste. Anyway you amazed me again just like usually.
Appreciate your honest opinion! I can definitely see what you mean haha If I were to paint him again I'd maybe tone down the red parts and put those mostly on the tips and maybe have them be a darker burgundy color. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think the color choice is just a matter of taste. :) Even if wouldn't have been my choice either it looks quite cool. And I think it fits the traditional colorful asian design perfectly. :)
