Does not. Acctually the Cortina brakes where quite good for it's time. Same brakes in a Mk2 Escorts, Capri and VW LT van :)
This is the best DeLorean review video I've ever seen. It's honest, straight forward, and doesn't present all the bullshit myths like they're gospel. Well done!
I definitely agree. I like seeing videos where they actually talk about some of the small things, the things that normally aren't talked about.
Best of all the cars not being ruined by trying to re create the back to the future car. This is a nice example of a well looked after cared for and respected car 👍
Hear Hear!
so agree...
Yeah, it's great. Just stumbled upon it and really enjoyed it. It's as good as anything that Clarckson et al could do!!! I remember when the car was launched and all the carry-on when it all went down the toilet - I remember being quite sad at the time. They should re-launch it as an electric vehicle. In fact Tesla should buy/license the design for it and launch a Tesla DeLorean DMC-12.
I really like the look of the car. They should take the chassis and build in high quality components.

Lots of Ferraris, And every other type of expensive vehicles, but as hard as it is to believe, nothing on this planet gets the kind of attention that Delorean gets.
Every other mega dollar car owner kinda gets looked at with contempt or derision.

Parking it at a shopping center gets people running up to you wanting sit in it, have a photo taken next to it , it is beyond all understanding!
Well because everyone loves the movie . This car us literally a superstar
@@dr.emmettbrown5345 I dislike all 3 of the movies, but this car's design is timeless. It's simple, it's slick, no unnecessary parts, not trying too hard. I don't care about the cult surrounding those mediocre movies, but the car? The car looks better than most supercars.

Plutonium is easily available but unfortunately, there is something wrong with the earth's gravitational pull.

I would like to know where to get a de lorean like this.
I arrived here via your Long Covid resources which I only just discovered recently (thank you for the fascinating and invaluable content, it's my first year anniversary in three days). I was distracted by the DMC logo. Years ago at the tender age of 16 my first job was as a receptionist for De Lorean in NI. All I had to do was sit and chat to visitors, that's it, I couldn't believe my luck. No answering the phone, no photocopying, no typing, nothing else at all. It was fabulous! Not much work got done in that building, but there was a lot of fun had, terminal posing in sharp clothes, long coffee breaks, longer lunches, nutjobs arriving to plead for a job as a test driver. The secretaries all looked like supermodels and didn't actually walk, but wafted on some sort of invisible magic cloud, and had this impossibly thick and luscious hair, and cheekbones to rival Kate Moss. Gene Cafiero one of the founders looked like a mobster and was so very charming. It was like working on the set of Dynasty or Dallas.
That’s amazing! Thank you for sharing :)
I came for the DeLorea(n), but stayed for the fantastic film this turned out to be. A job very well done indeed.

The horsepower on these is a little low but the jigawatts are awesome!
Jigawatts lolllzxz
1,21 Jigawatts!! I rate this car 3,6. Not great, but not terrible.
It's not low for early 80s.
The horsepower at the time was above average, especially at 160. My firebird of 1988 had the same amount and was way heavier. The power at the time was fine. Doing 0 to 60 in 8 or less seconds was very braggable back in the day.

Of all the videos I have watched on Deloreans, this one is by far my favorite. Thank you for making it.
Best line ever... "All cars from that era....were shit." So much truth.

I can tell you that the super durable stainless steel body is still as strong and shiny if you clean it. I had just left the Air Force and was considering buying it buy the Renault engines were a very uncertain quality( thank u EPA) that I changed my mind.
@@briankirby6714 The PRV never got much love. Besides the notorious soft cams that flattened before the engine was ready to be retired, the mechanical fuel injection was only a moment in time toward electronic fuel injection. Better than carburetors but not as good as what was coming in a handful of years. You are definitely right on the money with the EPA; it was a horrible time to be a car.
This is as close to a Top Gear (Grand Tour) Delorean review as we'll ever get. Thanks for filling that void!
Excellent review, almost a “new take” on car reviews - I’ve watched too many to count.
A presenter who knows plenty about the history, engineering specifics and maintenance of the car. Who speaks clearly, with passion (but without drama and/or quirky traits) and is even a little endearing. Introduces genuinely important facts about the lineage and history of the car, as well as what it’s like to live with. All with great video and photography and even a real journey!
And by God, does the Delorean look awesome! The shape has aged magnificently well, highly desirable.
Well done - please review more cars with the same approach, you’re at least as good (but in my opinion, better) than all the rest!!
I999 Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the film.
Fantastic movie, really enjoyed it! I got my DeLorean nov 17 and have spent most of the winter realising everything you talk about. The availability of spare parts, the community, the amount of resources online. I love my car! Taking it to my first, and a very small car show in the community where i grew up this Sunday! Will probably be the most modern car there! BTW, your car seem to be in very very nice condition, good job!

Amazing how this car, 38 years on, still looks way more modern than virtually every other car in 2018.
I am a huge fan of the man , John DeLorean and the car , the DMC 12. I was born in 1965 and have worked on a few of these in my career as an automotive repair technician. This video is one of the most down-to-earth videos I have watched that was about the vehicle itself and how it has held up to the criticisms that one always hears about. Keep in mind that this vehicle was built in the early eighties and was the first version of it's kind.. It never had the opportunity to be improved upon or remodeled in later years as many of the big three would have done with their models that were not so perfect.
Great job with the video and thank you.
What a fantastic video! I was so prepared before watching the video to assume it was a 'count the faults' of a vehicle pushing 40 years of age but was pleasantly surprised. Its rare to find an auto video that gives the viewer a feel of the spirit of not just the vehicle but also of owning one. Nicely done!
A VERY informative and honest road trip and review of this iconic motor.Nice to see more positives than put downs like so many do .Nice job and cool car.
This is Top Gear quality.
I fell in love with the DeLorean the very first time I saw it... and nothings changed to this day. Watched this video and loved every minute of it. I'd own one in a shot if I could.
looks like love, drives like an abusive relationship.
EVOLICIOUS Lol
You sound as though you know my ex wife!
My neighbor growing up was a rather eccentric pathologist.
His wife drove a AMC Pacer wagon and he drove one of these as his daily driver for years.
It was eventually totalled by the insurance after it was rear ended by a drunk driver in a FORD pick up.
It had nearly 150 K miles on it.
That's such a shame damn
@@antalgergo2699 if you see someone driving a Ford truck stay away from it
Great video. There is still plenty to check with your DeLorean electrical. I have a 130amp altenator on mine, cleaned every ground and replaced all bulbs with LED'S. My volt gage doesn't drop below 12.5 volts with everything running. Also the is enough parts at DMC to make 200 cars, not 3000. No big deal. I redid my whole car and i never worry about anything while driving! I drive mine every day practically. Love every second!
LED's were a big get for us. I put in LED headlights that pull a grand total of 1.6 Amps. Another gain was battery technology. If you choose to pay the $200-$300+ for the AGM-technology, you'll have a stronger and more reliable voltage delivery. Then they designed solid-state relays, actuators to replace solenoids... the list goes on. The electrical issues have been put to bed.
One of these days I aim to have my very own DMC-12. Such a gorgeous vehicle!! :)
This guy is a rarity: he talks in a way where it’s not annoying. Please keep reviewing things, you make it interesting and are not irritating, great work!

I'm speechless! Stunning review!
Thank you Sir! When the car first made its debut in 1981, a dealership here in the U.S.A. placed a DMC-12 on the floor of a large shopping Mall in Eatontown, New Jersey. The mall is called "Momouth Mall" in Monmouth county New Jersey. I used to drive there (30 minutes away) just to walk around the car for a ridiculous amount of time, always studying what I could see from the outside of a locked car. So beautiful! Everything just flowed right. I've always preferred the design of rectangular shaped sports cars (i.e. Lotus) and this DMC-12 design took that to a new level. I could have purchased a used Delorean in 1991 for only $10,000 but didn't take the jump. Would've, could've, should've ... so close yet so far! I remember going to the Library over-and-over and reading one of the earliest books on the DeLorean titled, "Stainless Steel Illusion" by John Lamm. A stunning book loaded with historical information. Never had the chance to own a DMC-12 as prices soared but certtainly enjoy watching all the helpful youtube videos about the car and this particular video is 2nd to none. By far the best from a trusting gentleman. Great review. Thank you once again!
electricwally Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it.

This was such a wonderfully produced and excellently written video! This is the year I'm finally looking to buy the car of my dreams, and videos like this help make it all the more exciting to do so. Thank you for your attention to detail and for the care you put into this car. I would say I'm looking forward to more videos from you, but you're selling it! Thanks for all the time you put into this video, though, to pave the way for more owners in the future. :)

Great review by the way. Was very interesting and informative. An iconic car in a pretty decent state, and still used on a regular basis. That's delightful!
The only thing is that I would move that slider in Myth 2 (handling) more to the 'truth' part...
This is the best review I've watched on a DeLorean. Thank you and greetings from California, USA.
I am not a sports car guy, but I love the "Back to the Future" films. There is something very cool about seeing a review on a car from the 80s like it was a new car.
One of the most beautiful cars ever in my opinion. Notice how the speedometer on this one actually goes to 170. In the US, it only went to 85. If John Delorean had the financing and money backing to make the car better like he really wanted, it would've been something truly special.
Yes - this is a rare aftermarket speedometer. The other unusual ones you see are for the Canadian market which go to 240kph / 140mph
One of the coolest, most well-made DeLorean videos ever, in my opinion. Really in-depth.. a day in the life of ownership. WOW! good work!!

11:03 Dacia Duster :D Hello from Romania! Great review and congratulations for the DMC-12 - amazing looking car!
For my eye, the front shocks are shot, ont the dash not only the speedo failed, but also oil pressure is stuck at the top of the scale and temp seems stuck just at the bottom. Still the look of this thing on the road is amazing, and it is good to see well maintained and loved Delorean alive.
I was getting road sick just looking at it sway on the road in the video, yeah I think the shocks were shot. as for the dash, I would probably go the retro future look and put in some fluorescent digital display type thing. I think it wouldn't be hard too hard to do, put a sensor on the wheel, small arduino chipset and presto.
The inop gauges reminded me of my TR-7.
car with the dmch kit rides low, the speedo is mechanical and does fail fairly easy to fix, the temp is usually very low esp with modern updates and the wings B cool kit, and finally the oil pressure is always capped as the factory unit what incorrect slightly, but if you have low pressure it will show.

I used to drive that road daily. It was pretty standard there. Honestly with that car being LHD and wide and not particularly fast it was probably the best opportunity for a while - he turned right at the next roundabout and then left onto a much narrower road.

The stainless steel looks good in the night lights.
Stainless Steel bodywork reflecting 80's neon light signage... is there nothing cooler?
@Főfasírozó even yo mama.
Having owned a Delorean for 40 years this is an honest review. As a daily driver it is a wonderful car, very reliable. Many of the complaints of lack of power, alternator, front suspension, speedometer have been corrected over the years making the car even more reliable. But it has always drawn peoples attention, it looks like nothing else on the road. With all the stainless parts now available for the car, it can be made virtually rust free, if you have deep enough wallet. And an engine/trans swap puts it in supercar speed.
I think I have watched this same video at least 27 times. It never gets old.

He looks more like a rock star from the 80's.
Very well said with no excuses and no hype. My father bought one new in 81 and it broke down on the way home. At $60 grand in those days it was WAY overpriced. There was only one auth dealership/mechanic in town and they had never seen one. At20 yrs old I drove it to college and sold it within a yr after 3 water pumps failed, got locked in, vapor locks and numerous lucas elec issues. Got 1/2 price for it "ouch".
In 2007 against my better judgement but seeing the community and parts availability had grown, I bought a low vin, manual and after a major initial 2 yrs of working out the bugs it's my daily driver. Owning a Delorean is both like dating a super model and frying bacon naked. If you want a fast car, buy ONE. You want a oddball, a challenge and a very unique car and willing to accept the good AND the bad, get a Pantera HAHAHAHAHA.....
The car was not "At $60 grand in "those days", it was $25k. The most they sold for was about $30k, and that was for those who just had be the first to have it. They do go for about $60 today for one in good condition.
@@kriswingert1662 It is called inflation. Go to inflation finder, type in a amount and see what the conversion is. www.usinflationcalculator.com/ I remember on the same lot was a loaded brand new Corvette which was $17500.
Of the 4 Deloreans sold here in Columbia, all broke down. The auth "dealer" had no mechanics who had actually seen one. 3 gave up and got rid of theirs for whatever they could dump them for while one was painted red and actually maintained for a good 20 yrs iirc until it caught fire and burned to the ground.
JIMJAMSC The key words here are “ in those days”, which he is referring to 1981, not 2018. I know what inflation is and he is not talking about now.
