The aviation giant has recorded a 13 per cent fall in its post-tax profit to $873 million in the six months to December 2023, largely driven by lower airfares as its capacity returns to normal after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The results are the first delivered under chief executive Vanessa Hudson, who replaced Alan Joyce in September after he fast-tracked his planned exit from the company after a series of scandals plagued the airline.
She's told The Business' Alicia Barry about her plans for the company going forward. But she does face many headwinds.
There's a looming ACCC case against the airline alleging it sold customers flights that had already been cancelled, as well as a class action, and calls for the government to consider whether it needs to break up Qantas to improve competition.
