Honestly, I'm pleased with this roster. Sure there are some characters that i wanted back, but let's be honest, NASB 2 has very cool characters too. I'm just sad that Vlad won"t be playable. I was hoping that we would unlock him after the campaign.

The Rugrats discourse surrounding this game has made me wonder, what is the youngest fighting game character of all time? Like, the whole "don't punch babies, but kids are ok?" thing, like yeah there's not a huge difference between 8 year old Lucy and 1 year old Tommy, but it is a difference of 7 years. The youngest I can think of off the top of my head are the Powerpuff Girls in Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion, who are 5 year old Kindergarteners, which would *still* be older than the eldest eligible Rugrat, the 2.5yo Angelica. Would adding Tommy, a 1 year old baby, be breaking truly new ground? To be clear, I don't know if I think it's a good or a bad idea, but I also don't want any of the babies as a playable character. I do think Rugrats should get more representation, but it obviously needs to be Stu Pickles!!!
My prime issue with rosters like this that put “importance” above all else is that they ignore 2 things that Smash always really did well:
1) Cast diversity
2) Shining a light on unexpected characters
For diversity, I mean both in terms of playstyles and in a literal representation sense. Imo, Gerald is a perfect example of both. Gerald’s emphasis on sports lets him be far more unique than Helga, and he’s also one of the most iconic black cartoon characters EVER. I think you go for Gerald over Helga every time. Same with El Tigre as one of the only Latin Nick characters. They both need to be on the base roster imo. I would also pick Catdog, Nigel, Oblina, really anyone unique over Dib - as important as Dib is, wouldn’t he play similarly to Jimmy Neutron or Zim? Iconic-ness is important, yes, but a fun game is more important.
Second, these crossover games excel at shining the limelight on unappreciated characters. Grandma Gertie imo is an excellent pick. A great, unique moveset, a callback to an old show, a funny concept to someone discovering these characters for the first time - if you didn’t know any of these characters, wouldn’t you want to play as a fighting Grandma over spunky teen girl number 5?
My only problems with NASB2’s roster so far are Ember, Rocksteady, and the lack of Mikey and Leo. Otherwise, I think they did a nice balance of iconic characters and just-for-fun, unexpected ones that Smash melee did.
(I do want Mighty Bee and Fanboy & Chum Chum though!)
Very based hypothetical roster. Unfortunately we still can’t get Timmy for obvious reasons, but other than that, this rounds out almost every part of Nicktoons legacy really well.

I don't know if timmy is a realistic pick, theres so many legal hurdles with him as far as I can tell. He'd be a huge NASB 3 character if they could get him.

Got to the end and I gotta say, this roster is... bland! I understand a lot of people's disappointment with the roster we have, especially the cuts, the 3 Firebender situation, the lack of main characters etc, but at the same time... those are all INTERESTING choices on their part, and a lot of their cuts are at least replaced with something of equal or lesser value - Hugh may be gone, but Grandma Gertie as a new surprising adult character is so much more exciting than boring old football head could ever be. Maybe we don't have all four Turtles, but honestly four similar-weighted weapon wielders make for a samey roster even if they are all given unique weapon properties and personalities, so trading them out is a good way to give every one of them a chance to be seen in this format without eating up dev time for more exciting new things. CatDog is gone, but Angry Beavers are here, and they execute on the concept even better of a stance changing duo fighter of animals from a 90s cartoon. I'd even say Gerald takes the best parts of both Lincoln and Helga and condenses them to one character who also, like, not that this is as important but, he's black, which nobody else on your roster is, so nice they've got someone there who has a darker skintone not just for like representation but also for visual diversity, makes the cast much more fun to look at than a sea of pale protagonists and animals imo. Obviously there's also El Tigre who is latino and Korra and your addition of Katara are both dark skinned and from a fictional tribe primarily based on the inuit and other indigenous people of the Americas, so it's not like there's nobody else on the roster with dark skin, but Gerald is a black American, which is a pretty huge group of people to have only one rep for in their game and none in yours, imo - which is of course speaking to a broader problem in cartoons *and* video games about just not having and focusing enough on them, since of course in a lot of these Nick shows, black people *are* there, they're just... sidekicks, second fiddle, supporting cast for the white main protagonists, see also AJ from FOP, Tucker from DP, Susie from Rugrats, Clyde from TLH, and the GOAT Libby from Jimmy Neutron. And like... yeah, adding any of these before the Main Characters around them would be weird feeling... but I applaud them for doing so in this case, and I think they chose the best option available too. But bleh, that was a whole diversion, that aside, I just overall think this roster is... fine but dull, lots of just the characters people on reddit and whatever are asking "why aren't they here yet?" and then not listening to the honestly pretty good reasons why.
Like, you can't just pick the favorites, you gotta pick the freaks, and while this roster does have some freaks... they're the SAME freaks the first NASB had. Hugh, Nigel, Oblina, these are great shocker picks, but what makes NASB2 hype for me is that they have NEW shocker picks rather than just relying on the old ones we've already seen. Characters like Ember, Gertie, and Rocksteady are just so much cooler than *any* of the newcomers you picked, and the return of veteran shocker picks is just never gonna pack the same punch as something totally new and surprising.
I think there's certainly a discussion to be had about if more "interesting" picks for a game like this are actually a good thing. Like, when you advertise a game as "all your favorite characters all in one game" and then proceed to add many side characters (which like hey, I like those side characters, especially gerald, I didn't really want to remove him. If it were an easy decision, the hey arnold reps probably would have been gerald and arnold for me but I didn't want helga to not come back to reduce the number of veterans cut) it definitely calls into question what type of game the devs and nickelodeon want this to be. And I guess the answer is that they want it to be a bit more loose on its roster choices and that's cool, again I like the roster from NASB 1 and 2. But there has been so much discourse about why characters that feel like shoe-ins are just being pushed aside. I ultimately don't care about what the roster looks like, but this is just my take on if I did. If I were a dev, I would prioritize the boring picks, not because I hate characters that could be/are more interesting, but because the safe picks are the picks that people have the best connection to. They are the ones that will make the most people happy to see. I have legit seen people be pretty distraught over these characters not being in, and I think just labeling them as "boring" isn't really fair to them. Again, I don't really think the way the devs have actually approached the roster is bad, but it certainly is much more controversial than just doing what people want you to do. And when the roster size is small I don't personally believe you should go for whatever, even if there's a good idea behind it. You can make anything interesting if you try, so I def don't agree with the idea that the safe picks couldn't be made interesting. It's easy to say that when there's no proof of concept for it.
@@Cowabunger just because it's possible to make bland characters interesting doesn't mean it isn't easier to just start with a character who already has an obvious unique thing they bring to the game. I agree that these are clearly different takes, and it's not like the nasb2 roster is without is flaws, I just think this roster is less exciting for me personally than the real thing and I'm glad the devs are chasing their ideas rather than just catering to the fans expectations based on what games like smash have done in the past.
I'm ngl, having 4 turtles is so much less interesting than doing a couple turtles and then literally anyone else. TMNT has such a colorful and diverse cast, it feels like a waste to use 4 slots on characters that all look nearly identical with very similar vibes

I can choose any sister for the second LL rep. Mostly comes down to popularity. But for the third person, I think it would be interesting to include Ronnie-an. Sure, her show wasn’t very successful, but I like to make my roster history first, everything else, eh.

I made a roster a bit ago and I would make it so that every decade of Nick gets an IP with 2 characters not including SpongeBob or TMNT which get more. The roster would go:
SpongeBob - SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy (BFBB Trio)
TMNT - Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo
Avatar: Aang, Zuko and Korra (Avatar will be the 2000s IP with two characters since Korra counts as a new IP)
Rugrats: Tommy & Angelica (The 90s big IP that gets 2 characters)
The Loud House: Lincoln Loud and Luna Loud (The 2010s big IP)
90s: Ren & Stimpy, Oblina, Rocko, Arnold, CatDog and Nigel
2000s: Zim, Jimmy Neutron, Jenny, Danny Phantom and El Tigre
DLC (with new IPs): Plankton, Angry Beavers, Otis, Fanboy & Chum Chum
DLC (existing IP): Plankton, Sheen, Dib, Toph
would love bessie higgenbottom from the mighty b! to be in the game, a very underrated nicktoon
besides all 4 turtles, i personally would love to see casey jones be playable, his moveset would be similar to how he plays in shredder’s revenge

Honestly I think the biggest miss for this roster is not adding sokka. Feels incomplete for the whole gaang to be here yet not sokka.
I would still have Ember over Luna. This being taking a representative with two characters and taking one of those two and give it to another series that ready has two representatives seems rather odd. That and Ember has more move potential because she actually fought and can have an established moveset.
I think another problem with this roster is the actual lack of All Stars. You removed El Tigre, one of the most requested characters, while also seeming like a surprise pick. You also have 2 Hey Arnold chatacters, 4 TMNT (reasonable), 2 Rugrats, 5 Avatar, and 3 Loud House reps, being a clear lack of other series Imo.
(Mainly speaking about the base roster, btw)
I like most of your choices, but I’d personally do without Luna Loud and throw in Sheen from Jimmy Neutron/Planet Sheen.
For a 20-30 character roster, I would have SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward/Plankton. For a 50-60 character roster, I would have six SpongeBob characters. Same 3 picks but both Squidy and Sheldon are added, along with Sandy and Krabs.
I think it would be cool to have an update or dlc for unlocking vlad After the campaign. Vlad has been in my wishlist for a quite awhile now.
You should've included Hank from Paws of Fury. That was such a good film, and the material featured - it's "Blazing Saddles" set in the Oedo period - already writes itself.

One of the problems I have is that they have Aang in his Book 1-2 outfit as his default costume along with having his original staff even though he is using firebending in some of his attacks which he learns in Book 3 after Zuko joins along with having a new staff that the mechanist created. I think they should've made his Book 3 outfit his default look along with him having his new staff while his Book 1-2 outfit along with his original staff is a costume for Aang.
Dang, I had an issue with the amount of 90s characters to, But you can't Get rid of all of them, You have to at least have Rocko or Catdog
I know this is very unlikely of them to do it, but what if they made a booster packs of fighters more DLC, that would introduce 2 to 3 fighters each I feel like that would be a good way to get rid of all that negative feedback about the character selection

I would prefer not going for the Classic versions and go with Nick originals such as Rise and 2012. Maybe even Michael Bay.
Your roster is adequate but overall all to safe. On your base roster, I'd change Tommy to the All Grown Up variant to scrap the baby argument or the bratty Angelica.
On the offical roster's DLC, I'd change Iroh for Lincoln or Luan or another Loud equivalent, otherwise, this roster is perfect.
Nick Brawl 1’s roster was so good. PTM was a brilliant choice. An obscure side character from an obscure series, though one popular enough to warrant a second character. The difference between him and Grandma Gertie is that he’s more visually-interesting and unique enough to warrant his inclusion.
Helga was also a great choice. While Gerald might have had a similar moveset, Helga’s just a more important and iconic character.
Oblina was a good choice, but I would actually replace her with Krumm for the next game. Krumm is more recognizable and has more moveset potential.
Sandy is a perfect character for Nick Brawl. Sandy has great moveset potential, and I think she should’ve been in this game.
We'll go from a series by series basis, so my ideal roster is:

I honestly would've liked to include Timmy's Dad, Mr Crocker & Jorgen Von Strangle, but Timmy Turner makes too much sense as a DLC Headliner to sell the DLC, also I thought of adding Donnie from The Wild Thornberry's, but decided not to, and as weird as it is that Hugh Neutron & Grandma Giddy are in these games, I like the absurdity of the occasional parental figure being included, hence why I think it would be awesome to have Professor Membrane as DLC, besides you all saw that one scene in Invader Zim: Into the Florpus, where Professor Member zips through a crowd of people and sending folks flying as he shouts "NOT SCIENTIFICALLY POSSIBLE!!!" dude has some ungodly powers I swear.

As much as it pains me to do stuff like take out Plankton and keep Lincoln, I feel it's a more balanced roster this way, and Garfield seems like a more enticing DLC pick than any other Nick character given he hasn't done anything to feel like a Nickelodeon character so far, he's like a 3rd party addition even though he's owned by Viacom

As much as a 2nd rep for rugrats is needed I think it should be the babies it should probably be stu but I think before that both Jimmy neutron and DP are franchise that should have 2 rep at the least as part of core 4 characters of the biggest crossover franchise of nick which was nicktoons unite
And another thing I think worth mentioning is that another thing that you should think about when making a game is you don't won't characters to have too similar of a moveset which is why I think as much as it would be fun to have him vlad is just a boss or not having all 4 turtles which I think the best to rep the 4 turtles is if each of them represents a different show because let face it rise Donnie would be very different from all the other turtles
It’s weird to not have all four turtles, but the roster also kinda looks weird with them. It’s the same feeling people who haven’t played fire emblem have when looking at the Smash roster lol - not only do the turtles kinda have similar movesets (swords and sais aren’t that different), they also have identical silhouettes. I know the originals are what people grew up with but I will never understand NASB or other game devs picking the colorblind unfriendly designs for their action games over any of the newer designs that have different body shapes (which are the versions ACTUALLY on Nick!)
@@snuffysam same honestly I think that would have been the best way to handle franchise have their designs from one of the 2 nick produced shows or have each turtle represent a different show honestly while I never watched rise their designs would have probably been best to use each turtle is vastly different than the others on his designs
Looking at the base roster and first DLC line alone, just drop Luna, Arnold and Tommy for Catdog, Angry Beavers and Timmy.
Timmy, along with Jimmy, Danny and Spongebob are THE Nick icons.
Catdog and Angry Beavers are just such interesting characters AND they can rep their own series alone.
Luna, Aronald and Tommy don't have much going on for them, and their series is already repped.
Lastly maybe cut Katara for Nigel or Tigre, just coz Korra is already a water bending rep.

That's a 45-character roster right there, unresitable purchase in my opinion.
It does bother me that they removed Lincoln Loud, Helga & CatDog specifically, and it makes no sense to remove 2 of Turtles only to replace them with the 2 other Turtles, and why remove Sandy? She's a main member of the Spongebob cast, and the only major female representation in the Spongebob cast, should have kept her and then just add Squidward, Mr Krabs & Plankton.
Jon should've been a DLC character.
