NASB2 is one of the biggest surprises of the year, by far. I was fortunate enough to receive an early copy of the game, so you know I had to talk about it!

I dont think the issue was ever effort, I think it was always budget. You can tell in even the early days of NASB 1 the devs cared alot about the game (although they might've been too tunnel visioned in making it Melee 2). But they never got the sufficient budgeting or permission to even get voices for the game.
I think with the great sales of the first time, they were allowed to do much more with this sequel.
This seems to be an issue with Gamemill as a publisher in general. The recently released King Kong game that has been memed to hell and back was also published by them and was apparently was on an extremely strict schedule that the the dev team could not fulfill
i second this. they were always very ambitious, open with their community, showed a big love of fighting games and their lingo (like when the narrator did a big pause when they showed off wavedashing). What would not be seen as "a full effort"? Voicelines? thats budget. Improved rendering and animations? Budget (especially with how much love was poured into the moves they did put in 1). The reason ppl talked about NASB1 at all was the effort the studio was putting into an orders-came-from-the-top-that-we-need-a-platform-fighter cashgrab. It's commendable how much they tried with NASB1 for a studio of their size. You saw this especially with the free post-release content that was explicitly to thank fans for taking a chance on the game with characters and costumes.

@@krooga_ The devs made it a point to take inspiration from Melee in alot of their combat. Even mentioning wavedashing specifically in a Presentation about the combat.
The first Nick All Star had genuine effort in the character moveset and gameplay. It was the side content that lacked. The fact that the second one is even better and adressed the complains just showed the devs actually cared
It also appealed way too hard to Melee players, where the gameplay, if you got good enough, was all about spamming your best moves for easy offstage kills and 0 to deaths. It was very redundant after a few times of playing.
Yep unlike the developers behind Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion who only cared about money
the first game was low budget but was Not a 'Joke' game in the slightest. Other streamers like RunJDRun and Arlo really seemed to highlight how it had effort put into it but just not the budget or the time.
4:34 That’s still Hugh’s original voice actor, so age would be the only difference in terms of his performance here. He basically sounds the exact same as he did in the show though

They really did try with the first game, they just had like... 4 dollars for the budget
It likely helps that Nintendo isn't going to suddenly drop a reveal like Sora to just overshadow everything (I'll never forget how utterly dirty that was and I like Sora).

I would get this if they hadn't removed a pretty significant amount of characters from the roster, I'm hoping if there's a third game they put everyone back in, that's when I'll probably give this series a buy.
The characters were cut because pretty much every character was reworked
I feel like the issue with the AI actually murders single player replayability more than Ant is giving them credit. Because the rock stupidity of the AI also applies to the boss fights too.
And when you face the story mode's final boss only for them to just ... stand there taking hits for like 80% of the fight, it honestly makes things very underwhelming
What i'm learning so far from this game is; not many people saw El Tigre.
Why do we still not have all 4 Ninja Turtles? They only had Leo and Mikey in the last game and left out Donnie and Raph, now they’ve added Raph and Donnie but removed Leo and Mikey. What… why? You were so close guys.

I love that you mentioned how they did character overviews for the second game going over the mechanics but they did that with the first one and no one watched and then called it Jenky because they didn’t know how to play

Budget was the issue with the first game. But it did sell well enough to greenlight a sequel with a larger budget. Playing it myself, it is nicer as the old mechanics from the original qere scrapped and wvery returning character was rebuilt from the ground up.
Kinda sucks that they had to cut some characters.

i WILL say that Nickelodeon All Star Brawl 2 still FEELS like it's missing an era, but that can largely be contributed to the fact that their most recent non-preschool cartoons, not including spinoffs and revivals/continuations, are uh... Big Nate from 2022, then Middlemost Post from 2021, then It's Pony from 2020, Welcome to the Wayne from 2017, Bunsen is a Beast from 2017 as well, and The Loud House came out in 2016. Nickelodeon has just uhhh, not been making a lot of shows. Plus the only one of those still airing is Big Nate. It's not like a Disney platform fighter where you can have like, Luz and Molly McGee, Nickelodeon just really likes Spongebob.
With how good this seems compared to the 1st (and the 1st was No slouch and did have effort put in). I honestly wish them better luck if they make another Avatar game, and are just given the proper time and budget to make it on par with other games that feel like they'd fit better, like the Naruto Ninjastorm games or Dragonball Kakarot. Or hell make it like the Legend of Korra platinum game, which even if mid, is still the best Avatar game.
Biggest problem is that Hugh Neutron isn't on the roster. Bring back Hugh Neutron! #HughNation

From a fellow longtime Rocko's Modern Life fan, that means a lot to me : ). It's a shame that Filburt and/or Heffer are not in this game, even as future DLC characters.

I honestly didn't care about this game, but seeing it now it looks really fun! I don't know when but I'll be picking up this game at some point
One thing I'll say is that I'd stay away from the Switch/PS4/Xbox One versions, or at least look to see if they've gotten improved in the time since release. From what I've heard from people who got them, they have problems with low resolution, load times that could reach up to 50 seconds for a four-player match, missing/incomplete textures, and (worst of all for a fighting game) low framerate and frequent frame drops.
Patch notes for the upcoming first update mention improvements to performance and loading times for Switch, but it remains to be seen just how much better it'll get, and if those same fixes will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One.

Hearing the campaign mode being described as a roguelike really put me off, but after playing it, it was clear that its just a beefed up All-star mode.

I love this game. My only issues are minor nitpicks, like the fact that Gir's voice isn't pitch shifted so he sounds super weird...

It's not that the dev wasn't putting any effort into the first one it more like nick didn't give them the time or budget for them to make the game they wanted. Kinda disrespectful to say that the devs put" effort into it this time" when it Wasn't even they're faults in the first place on how the first one turned out. Maybe this can be a lesson to nick about not being so cheap and giving a good budget from now on.

Glad everyone's getting excited but I'm getting Multiversus flashbacks, people were saying the same thing "it's better than I expected" "no bro it's actually good". Can't help but think in a couple months the lack of content will catch up to them and All Star Brawl will never maintain a consistent player base
I think, and hope it wont matter as much since multiversus was a free game so a big influx of content was to be expected, but even then Id like to think that with the dlc on the way and hopefully semi frequent patches, this game can last longer.

Saying nasb1 was low effort is completely incorrect.
They lacked time an funding, yet still managed to make a (in my opinion) decent game. From a competitive standpoint. The first game was plenty good, but it certainly did lack visuals and single player content for casual play.
Anyone who has spoken to the devs or been in the discord knows how much heart developers like thaddeus put into the first game - those character breakdown videos you like with the second games release? They were there for the first games release too.
Im not really angry or disappointed with what you said, as its not like i made the game - however, i do think its not right to spread misinformation or false rumors. Many people think the first game is good, many think it is bad, but everyone should know for a fact that effort was not what was missing from the game.
I really fun games but it runs like dog crap in the loading times I’m very very long but besides that I’m really enjoying my time
man it would be Cool to see an Ed fighter with the upcoming release of Good Burger 2. i could only imagine his move set would be fumbling orders which cause the others to be hurt or his special would be throwing his opponent into the broken milkshake machine

kinda disrespectful to say "they're putting in effort now!?" you should see how hard the devs worked on the first game so much more than they needed to for a licensed game. alot of love went into this one and the last one too.
No, the first game sucked ass. They really didn't do anything with that game. It was so barebones, the animation was bad, the movesets were bad, the text was bad, the modes were bad, and the gameplay was so basic and generic and half the characters were very very bad clones and rip-offs of smash characters with little imagination and the balance was garbage. He's absoutely right, and no they didn't put in any real effort into that first game and it shows. It was an awful game in every way and you're wrong to defend it.
That's what I was thinking. You can definitely tell that the Dev team did the best they could with the budget that they were given.

1st. You say characters are rip offs of smash characters, but also say they have poorly designed movesets? In that case, smash is a bad game too. However, if you actually do any research about nasb or fighting games in general, you'd know that not only are characters being similar a natural part of fighting games and platform fighters, having its own terminology in the word "archetype", but you'd also realize that not a single character from nasb 1 plays identical to a smash character.
2nd, you point out that the animation was bad, but refuse to accept the possibility that the developers had no funding nor time to properly model a full roster. This can be proven with 2 minutes of research - everyone knows that the first game was given way too harsh of a deadline to come out, and even if we didn't, we would all know the developers cared and were putting in their best efforts by their actions after the game was launched, trying their best to convince nick and gamemill to provide funding for voice acting, and constantly being up on patching, while keeping in touch with the community.
3rd, you say the gameplay is basic/barebones. If you had said the game lacks good single player or casual content, I would've agreed wholeheartedly - that is the weakest part of the first game. However, the core gameplay itself was extremely well designed for high level play. Even to this day people were still running tournaments for it, because it had a good set of mechanics that allowed for fun strategy and allows players to demonstrate their skill and individuality.
4th, and finally, you say the lines were bad? They were just lines directly pulled from the shows. Direct quotes. They didn't write those themselves- if you think the lines were bad, maybe your issue isn't nick all stars, but rather that you just don't like nickelodeon period.
Feel free to dislike the game - but don't spread misinformation about it or its developers just because you don't like the product.

Okay well heres my honest short feedback if it means anything, its a fun plat fighter to play, its got everything you would want. A campaign/story mode. Crossplay. Remixed music. Fun side content etc. Imo the game is a 8/10

Edit: I tried the game and yes, sure, more effort, but it's still not very good, and for example how Korra's AI doesn't work. She'll side b and knock herself out every time. There are other details like multiple characters sharing the same skin in battle, which don't help to the visibility.

I COMPLETELY disagree about the soundtrack and apparently a LOT of people also disagree with you on that, because GameMill released the soundtrack on their own youtube channel and the praise and love for the soundtrack from everyone is through the roof. So no, you're wrong and very very alone on that one. The soundtrack is greatly improved from the first game and everyone BUT YOU, really really really enjoys it a lot.
