Jordan is in his own class as the greatest competitor in basketball in any era. Notice I said competitor, and not champion or basketball player. Many players can be denied. Jordan will never be denied. His drive to win is unparalleled in any sport. He gave us a showcase of excellence, that is rarely seen in a single athlete. That explodes on the field of competition in dominating fashion. This is what makes MJ the GOAT.

      *****
Yeah right, David Stern encouraged him to retire, do you have an idea how much the popularity of basketball has declined since MJ is gone. And I am not talking about the USA only. I live in germany and even though we had Dirk since 98/99, Basketball on TV has regressed from 3-7 times a week in 1996-98 to virtually ZERO a few years later and until today. David Stern is not stupid. 1998 NBA Finals = highest TV ratings ever for an NBA Finals series.
It's sad that people believe all these bullshit stories about MJ. They're only floating around to try to make players of today look better than they are.
"God, disguised as Michael Jordan" is a quote from Larry Bird
after MJ scored 49 in Game 1, and then 63 in Game 2 against Boston in the first round of the playoffs in 1986. Boston won these games, yes, but Larry owning MJ? You're kidding right?

***** he did not leave because of gambling. There are plenty of very in depth books about the internal struggles the bulls were going threw during this era. He retired first because of his father's death and he felt he had nothing left to prove and achieve and he lost the drive to play basketball. Second retirement Michael said he would leave if Phil Jackson left. And there was to much animosity between Phil and the bulls management and they pushed him out . They knew this was going to happen well before the public did . So Michael left with him. You should learn to read instead of believing ridiculous rumors

Only reason the Bulls let this go to 6 was so they could win it at home, make no mistake about that. Spurs team vs. the Bulls team would've been a great matchup, both teams are well coached and fundamentally sound. Leflop era heat would've stood no chance vs. any of the 6 championship Bulls teams and if you really think the heat would've had a chance, you just weren't around in the 90's.

The 1996 Finals were actually by far Jordan's worst. Considering he was two years older and put up better numbers in 1998, that seems much more impressive.
