  • Already a badass car, this '87 Buick Grand National has been impressively modified to now crank out almost 500 horsepower and 608 ft. lbs. of torque thanks to its owner, Frank ( @fathafrankie14 on Instagram ). These rare cars are well known for being the fastest American production car during their reign in the late '80s, rating at 245HP and 360 ft. lbs . It gets its power from a turbocharged V-6, an unusual power plant for the day yet this G-body beast has earned respect among many classic muscle car enthusiasts. Frank has added some modern modifications to the car since taking ownership, such as a bigger turbo, bigger injectors, and more. Comment below what you think!

I remember that car when your uncle bought it new. I was work at Stanley's just 2miles away .I used to buy my gn parts from Frank Buick. Your uncle would let his parts delivery guy Larry take the gn to go deliver parts sometimes.great memories

I bought one new in 87...
Burned posi out of the lot....I have had 8 now and the one I have now is over 600 hp...it's mint like this one...it scares the shit out of everyone who gets In...I took my 70 yo friend for a ride and he was trying to use the brake on the passenger side...I said how's that working,he said...not to good...pull over and let me out now.......so I did the right thing....I turned around and punched it....one of the funniest things I ever saw was him clinging to the seat In horror as we hit the 25psi...these cars are just fun,fun,fun.....I draw a crowd wherever it goes....still get tested alot...but some guy's won't even approach a gn...they stay behind and won't even try.....it's a man thing.

Nice ride. Car and wheels are beautiful. What exact exhaust do you have from header to muffler? I have the Race Pros and they don't sound like that. Are they possibly violators. It sounds pretty good!!
RestoMod- is that Race Deck Tuff Shield garage flooring?

CF5 option set u back $925. in '87. At least that's what window sticker states. Wonder how many GN's were produced w/this option...

I don't know what Buick was thinking, but the seats don't hold you into place. They should have completely redone the seats front and rear, also the steering wheel.

Beautiful car. However, you're 100 percent wrong why the Regal went away. It wasn't because it was faster than the Corvette, which of course didn't sit well with GM management, but rather the real wheel drive platform was being replaced with front wheel drive. That's why the Grand National went away, not because it was faster than the Vette.

Even if GM continued rear wheel drive G bodies, the GN would have went away. GM had Callaway twin turbo a Corvette and it too was beat by the GNX. And the guy with the GNX had his wife & kid in the car when it beat the Callaway Corvette on the quarter mile run. Not once, but twice.
