I think my favorite part was when the pressure washer kept walking out of frame. 😂
Agreed!
That was nice, & very relatable
Come on now
Lol woulda put it in the grass
@@Moondog66602 I was hollerin' at a feller - put it on the grass Derek! But more comedic value watching it keep rolling away lol.
Hello old fellow Minnesotan, I gotta say this channel has given my 13yo son and I a chance to pull a 75 F100 out of his great grandpa’s farm. It sat since ‘91 and we have managed to get it running by moving through the steps he watched in your videos of revivals. Please keep your revivals coming, he has learned a lot mechanically and we both laugh at your narration 👍. Also a feller finds himself reciting a lot of your quotes daily to other fellers I work with 😂
I love reading stuff like this!
Moses’ sandals! That’s awesome. Great way to spend some good time with your boy.
Love those rims
6:42 I love how the pressure washer keeps slowly walking away. 😂
We appreciate you and your family. America runs on VGG.
Well I'll be dipped
That's a hefty statement there feller.
Dunkin' donuts would like to argue that
I think Canada might too!
The universe runs on Vice Grip ❤
Looking mighty purty!
Yours and VGC's Grand National are like you and the guy she told you not to worry about.
Every time the Bland National comes out, I think about your gorgeous car. A collab with you would be super fun.
Purdy like you F'd Peter around?
So glad he went with original looking rims. When he mentioned changing the wheels, I cringed. I should have known Derek has class.
@@dizcret It was the other way around 😉
My favorite part of paint and body work is watching someone else do it.
What body work.... hell he didn't sand it. ..half washed it. tape and paint ..being doing paint and body for 30+years and never in my life have I seen a car painted like that OMG. To me that is a waste of clear on a car that's worth that kind of money Car should have been stripped I love the show don't get me wrong but this is the first time I've seen him actually wasted time
@@ronaldwhite6508 I guess it is what it is lol
@@ronaldwhite6508 Also 43:10
@@ronaldwhite6508 agreed, and I understand this was supposed to be a demonstration of a budget fix but for pretty much the same amount of labor and materials it could have gotten a coat of black and looked a whole lot better than clearcoated rust.... from a few feet away of course.
@ronaldwhite6508 there's always one
I like the theme of "do what you can afford as long as you keep doing". I own a body shop and feel like I'm telling people they have a terminal illness every time I quote them a resto/custom paint job. But, I always encourage them to try themselves if it's their personal project, as the reward of standing back and saying, "I did that", is far greater than saying "I paid someone to do that".
Back in 1988 got my STOCK block GN to run 12.11 @113 with a ton of bolt on parts from KenneBell. It was a terror on Fountain Ave. In Brooklyn, and the most fun I ever had with a car! Eventuaöly ran a 10.33 @132 and made a few quid on the street!
I’m glad you were able to take a breather Derek, I honestly don’t think it was long enough and I feel I speak for a vast majority of us fellers AND fellettes on that matter. Heck, if you took a month off, we’d still be here for ya when you came back. I’m glad to see you back in action, especially on this classic gem. Thank you so much for everything you do selflessly for us VGG fans and “extended family”!!
We would be algo is not so merciful
Wasn't having a very good evening. This turned it all around. Thanks for everything you do, Derek. Your content makes the hard times less hard timey.
Yes! Thank you
Same, got on here to find something to improve the moods and Derek beat me here by 15 minutes. Knew just what some fellers needed. You're doing God's work sir.
I agree! Derek sure can put a smile on your face even on a bad day.
Glad to hear it!
@@ViceGripGarageI have a lot of new parts I can give you where would I send them
Hello Derek just wanted to let you know it's much appreciated the time and effort that you put into your videos is just incredible! I'm across the pond in the UK but my late father owned American cars the first of was a 69 mercury cougar xr7 and the last one was a 77 Cadillac Seville please keep bringing these cars back from the dead and take us all along for the journey👍👍
You are exactly correct, work within your budget, make it yours because the only opinion that matters is yours! Have fun and enjoy the fruits of your labors! Thanks Derrick, totally enjoyed this and love the memories you bring to the forefront..
I think you have single handedly started the trend of guys just enjoying the project they have as they can afford. Rather than let it sit until they can afford a full restoration. Pretty much everyone I know has dragged out whatever projects they have and have been getting them going and doing whatever they can, as they can.
I am guessing you might have an idea that you are one of the most influential car guys of the last decade. Congratulations! You sir deserve it.
Yup. Doing a little at a time is a helluva lot better than doing nothing at all. I've seen way too many nice cars put out to pasture, only to be beat to death by the weather over the years. It's a shame.
Roadkill did this long ago but yes
Roadkill is very different.
I didn’t say vice grip was the first……..I said he has been influential in getting people to do the same thing. He is getting legit ads in oreillys commercials. When Derek started getting popular guys started back on their projects. This content has sparked more peoples interest than all of those tv shows did over the years. Chip Foose got nuthin on Derek.
V.G.G you are awesome. I'm a mechanic myself and even after hrs of working on cars I can't wait to get home and see what you got going on. I know you reignite the want and passion in many of us to get back on our projects . All the info you share and show is 2nd to none thank you for this . I look forward to every episode.
Right on!
Bland not looking so bland anymore! Looks fantastic! Keep up the awesome work, this is my favorite of all time channel, not only on CZcams, on any media platform. The Grand national is my dream car. This shows me, maybe I don't need to look for a pristine immaculate Grand National, just one I can afford, and make it my own no matter the shape it's in! Love the wheels also, did a great job pickin" those.
I love watching these shows, especially some of the older ones and ya see the progression and how much little guy Bentley has grown
Love how you're reasonable and don't overdo the fixing. The patina came out really nice, especially on that backbumper, bet they would produce it like that if they could make it look so cool! All the best wishes for you and your family from North-West Germany!
Yes! Thank you!
When we going to see the other G Body?
@@ViceGripGarage that car really needs to be restored
@@alexbaker9967 IDK, remember that bottom was rusted out pretty good.
@alexbaker9967 it got rustored. Driving is funner than showing
I was worried about the new wheels the whole episode, but for what its worth I think the wheels you selected are terrific. You know what you are doing, I shouldn't have worried.
And what is the other gbody Derek sir I at one time had a 87 Buick Regal sport coupe factory V8 Oldsmobile 307 roller cam, and a 84 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ base model trim roller, and a 85 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme brougham salon knocking 3.8 231 Buick rwd V6.
I myself probably would have made the mistake and chose a aluminum turbine type wheel since the 84-85 gns has them and I love how they look and prefer the turbine and aluminum slots wheels to most aftermarket wheels really with the exception of the set of American racing atlas chrome plates aluminum wheels and the American racing black d window Daytona steel wheels I had both were on k20 square body 81 and up trucks but the 86 the atlas wheels were on had GMC high Sierra 1983 k1500 heavy duty 6 lug corporate gm10 bolt front completely rebuilt and the corporate gm12 bolt rear axles because I destroyed the worn out factory k20 corporate gm10 bolt front along time ago...
Derek screaming YES!!!!! as a soccer mom in a bland volvo keeps pace with him flooring the bland National 😂😂😂
This was like watching paint dry.........or clear ..on a car. I loved it. Great message at the end too. Enjoy your day, everyone. or don't.
I like the zero paint loss idea on the lift ramp, nothing going to waste there. Always enjoy your content. Keep up the good work!
The Shine juiced Grand National looks fantastic! Good looking enough to cruise in but you don’t have to worry about parking lot rash! Thanks Derek for another great episode.
saw you on demolitionranch and thought you were fun. found this video and i was right you are a very fun person. i love the do it yourself attitude and knowledge you bring to the table. also your appreciation in not just performance vehicles but the beauty in restoring old relics art pieces. i really enjoy it you're a master of the craft.
Love all the videos. But I really am impressed with the improved looks without a full paint job. Nice work.
I love the way the clear coat came out it looks amazing! I was thinking maybe since she isn't so bland anymore you should change it to the "Tanned National" since she sat out in the sun for so long 😂 thanks for another great video!
Love " Tanned National"
I really appreciate how you’re showing us all how we can do pretty darn good with what we got. Not many of us can afford to have perfect concurs, concoorse, uhhh, shiny show cars. A guy helpin’ us fellas, and felletes, to make our treasures last a little longer and shine up just a bit more is appreciated!
My cousin, rest his soul, was a mechanic and body guy and had one of these back in the day. There is a road not far from here that is miles of peaks and valleys and he would set the cruise control on it. That thing was a rocket ship to the top of those hills and the bottom of the tires definitely saw some air.
Thanks for the vid, brought back some fond memories.
My favorite part is after all the prep work and time getting it ready is putting color and clear
I just wanna say. Thank you for the amazing work you do for the videos and i want to thank a guy’s family for letting you do these videos for us. I’ll support you in every decision you make. Thank you 🙏🏼 much love
El Blando cleaned up rather well! That’s actually a shocking transformation. Well done my dude.
"Idk how to talk about that.." 😂👌
That and the pressure washer walking off, over and over, was solid gold. Lol
Grew up in Michigan and I remember the license plates, the best ever. Thoroughly enjoy watching the videos Derek.
I love that car! A feller got a good one
Very happy to see you back after a well deserved break. Loved the last Vice Grip Lodge, too!
Oh the old grand national..probably one of my favorites. My uncle had her little sister the regal t-type. Not as fast as this beast but pretty darn quick herself.
This is a beaut of a vehicle. Loving what you are doing with this. Thanks as always for taking us along on the journey.
Well sir here we are again fav time of the week
I was born in ‘76, I grew up in the 80s and 90s. The Grand National is an icon from my youth. I’m so happy you’re doing this! It seems like a small detail and you don’t see it today, but raised white lettering on tires is so awesome.
I really like what he did here, but I'd prefer the blackwall. The more black on a GN, the better. That's just me. To each their own.
Awesome as always! I really don't have a favorite part of body work unless you count admiring the finished product. That clear really brought the "Bland National" to life and it's great that the bog issue turned out to be a hose clamp. Keep doing what you're doing and stay safe!
Wow she cleaned up nice luv the new look of the not so bland now national can't wait for the next video Derek you and your family have a great labor day weekend
Great to see a revival getting more attention! If I had one suggestion for the channel it would be more follow-up videos. We fall in love with these classics and sometimes we never see them again!
Y'all that transformation was amazing. Can't believe how good she turned out. Think this one deserves a complete redo. Thank y'all and have a blessed evening.
I love the excitement when you fed her the onions lol. I hope to see you at Bristol!!!
Absolutely best part is painting and then yes peeling that tape away and stepping back
We missed you! But glad you had some time to relax you deserve it!
I always appreciate everything you teach us about cars and car care Derek, nothing like VGG for great information and humor my friend! I always enjoy watching you and your family, y’all are an amazing family my friend!
"Keep the Greasy side down!" LOL nice trib to Kelcy! ;)
Awesome as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Thanks for the video Derek, we missed you last week. The old Grand national looks much better, but it still deserves a full restoration. Just my opinion. 👍
Hello to a feller and the VGG nation!
I love this channel. It inspires me to get out and turn wrenches on my project.
Perfect timing
It’s officially Friday now!!!
A GUY does amazing work so glad to see someone taking the time and effort to give this Grand National the makeover it deserves. Such a cool car from our past can't wait to see more of it. As always great job 👍 Keep it up!
Missed you there for a minute, had me worried. Ur kinda comforting or relaxing to my morale. Thanks Mr.
This car deserves a full restoration, would love to see what you can do with it after seeing how beautiful the paint is on your dad’s 56 Buick you painted a while back.
Been watching this guy for a couple years now, never had a negative thing to say about him, ever! Really wish he put some more TLC into this car because it deserves it. seeing him spray clear coat over that rusty bonnet made me cry on the inside.
Awesome vid brother! Glad you got a rest, its important to take a breat once in awhile. Bland national aint lookin quite so bland anymore, absolutely love it! i appreciate all your content thank you for givin all us car fellas, (and fellets) the motivation to get on our projects. Rock on 🤘
This is the coolest refresh. Plus it’s right up the budget. Thanks for the great ideas.
My favorite part is spraying clear and watching it flow out.
I recommend installing a hot hose bib outside the shop. Can use a mixing valve to control the heat
Of the shop isn't heated how do you keep it from freezing ?
Put a shut offs on the inside of the shop and turn them off and drain them. I do believe he has a bathroom in the shop that is probably heated so running the line through there would help keep it from freezing. They also make heat tracer tape that would help prevent it from freezing and doesn't cost a lot to run
no insulation in his shop, not heated. @@purdy1990
Been watching your channel from the start and the growth of your community is so well deserved! Always a good day when you post 👍. Thanks Derek !!
My favorite part of body work is watching somebody else do it while I have a good cold beer
A guy really just help but like this feller and his family! Just seem like good folks!
Love a grand national
That wandering pressure washer really cracked me up. Like it was trying to get off camera to avoid the embarrassment. Nice content, Derek
Because of you and how much I enjoy watching your channel I've started working on my 1974 corvette which has been sitting for at least 30 years. I'ts probably alot like the cars you work on. It sat under a tree for years st my folks house. I just took out about a foot and a half of leaves from the cowl. Might have you beat with that one. Well any way thanks for your channel and your words of encouragement.
I recently bought a 49 Plymouth that had sit for a over a decade. I have to admit, when I wired up just the coil and starter and threw some 2 cycle mix down the tap, I hollared out “Bring the Thunder!”
I’ve always enjoyed working on old cars and tractors, but you have brought a new gear of fun to the mix.
A feller would buy you a cold snack if you were ever in south eastern PA.
Of all the vehicles you own, this is the one to go all in on. Love the Buick Grand National.
Can someone tell me what you call those straw hats?
Great rig! One of the best besides the Monte Carlo SS. The Grand National has some serious power. Love what you do; family, all the revivals etc. much love brother.
If only they made a GN/GNX/T-Type/Turbo-T/Regal in an Aerocoupe version when they made the SS Aero and Gran Prix 2+2 Aero......there is a guy who made one custom and it looks absolutely amazing 😅
442❤
The wheels look amazing, great choice! Nice to see that legend back out rippin' down the road again, and looking great. Well done.
Derrick you should take that thing all the way! When you were a kid this is what you wanted! Do it right!
This is so cool - I’m sure eventually you’ll give it the full restoration- this one’s a keeper
When has he ever done anything like that?
@@warbuzzard7167 ummmmmm
Always loved the grand national, love the appreciation and care you have for it too. Another awesome video Derek and Family
I remember painting my 84 monte carlo and same thoughts, applying tape = no fun, pealing tape = all the fun!
Every time I watch one of your videos my day gets better. Cheers!
Pulling the masking material off and seeing the results, that’s my favorite thing! That rusty hood looks amazing Derek, it’s cool looking! I bet it shines outside in the sun!
LOVE this car!!! Thank you for all you do! Aside from the work on the car, I’m aware how much other work goes into making these channels. It’s awesome your family supports you with this and is often included. Keep up the good work, you are truly appreciated!!
When the vehicle is done is my favorite part lol
Great video, yes I put a wix in my truck
DONT CHANGE THE WHEELS!
I agree 1000%. The original wheels are what makes this car.
Why did I gasp “oh my god” like a little girl when I saw this?
My brother told me about your channel a couple of weeks ago. Now I am hooked! Thank you for another great episode.
Thanks for taking us along.
What a transformation! Loved the shot of the test drive after the headliner came down. The little strings blowing in the wind reminded me of Ford vs. Ferrari when they taped the yarn to the GT40. Absolutely love the look of the rusty hood clear coated. Another great video.
Thanks for making my Friday night..!!! We all really appreciate you doing these videos for our entertainment....and watching you work in the 106° heat just for us as well...😊
Love the Michigan Bicentennial license VGG plate on the front bumper! You don't see much of those around up here anymore.
I had an '87 GN when I didn't have 2 pennies to rub together...I sold it...I miss that car everyday...it was such a cool car...😢
I really love the restoration videos. The cars look so good and unique afterwards!
Thank you Mr. Derek for the years of entertainment!
Derek does it again with the long form content. One huge amount of energy used in such a rewarding way. VGG never disappoints.
My favorite part of body work? Jamming a few self tappers in the new street sign floor pans.
Thanks for actually not time lapsing the start of the spray, I've always wondered what the proper tempo was in real time.
I’ve followed this journey since day 1, and Derek… she looks incredible! Glad you’re bringing her back!
Love the effort you’ve put into this o’l girl, the amazing content your provide us, and God bless you and your beautiful family. 🙏🏼
A guy couldn’t be happier!
My dream car!
This is my absolute favorite revival
Love that Michigan plate!!!! Beautiful car very well done
Here we go! Hope you had good some good time off Derek!
Yes! The weekend officially starts!
Another Fun Adventure ! The GN was an excellent car ! I'd like to get one someday ???
Sometimes ? at the Jefferson, WI Car show / swap show and Iola, WI you find GN parts. Or a parts car.
I am so pleased you decided to preserve and clearcoat the patina! Real character right there.
Glad to have ya back Derek!
