In 1996, I found and bought a 1973 Torino with 29,400 original miles. It was like new, garage kept, factory belts and hoses were still on it. Paint code 2B bright red, base model with exceptions of 351W, FMX, sport gauges with tach, power disc brakes, power steering. Interior was base black bench seat. I installed rear sway bar, gas shocks, 15" x 8" wheels with fat radials, dual Flowmaster exhausts, and then drove it daily for the next 20 years without any major problems. Gave it to my son about 5 years ago because he is a better mechanic than I am. He was with me when I found it, age 5, and he grew up riding in it daily. I will always love these cars. Congrats on getting yours.

I have just as much passion and enthusiasm for my beat up, well used cars as the people with trailered in, 200 original miles, time capsules that never truly get to feel the open road and have ketchup stains in the upholstery from getting burgers on a Friday night with your friends. I love this channel and it inspires me to find really beat up versions of my dream cars and get them on the road again.

I’ve also found that Rustoleum is the best spray paint unless you get the expensive custom mixed stuff at a paint store if you’re tryin to color match sumthin. The absolute BEST spray paint for coating a truck frame is the Rustoleum “Professional High Performance Enamel” paint. It’s a little better than regular Rustoleum, and it’s a million times better than any of the rubber undercoating in a can. I’ve used it for years now and it’s the only thing that has survived salty winters. The undercoating in a can is the absolute worst junk I’ve tried, it might work in some situations but salty roads make that crap flake off almost immediately.

THEN OTHER CARS AS WELL THAT MY PARENTS HAD. 1974 ROLLED AROUND AND MY MOM BOUGHT HER FIRST 1970 BOSS 302 MUSTANG AFTER HER DIVORCE. I WAS 12 AND SHE WOULD LET ME DRIVE IT IN RURAL WADDELL AZ. SHE WOULD TELL ME TO HAMMER IT AS WELL. THE FASTEST I DROVE IT WAS 120. HER SECOND BOSS 302 WAS A STRIPPED MODEL, AS THE FIRST ONE WAS LOADED WITH THE OPTIONS. BUT THE SECOND ONE WAS PROFESSIONALS BUILT AT THE PIT STOP IN SCOTTSDALE, AZ. IT WAS A BEAST. IT WOULD COMPLETELY ANNIHILATE THE FIRST ONE WITH EASE. HER FIRST BOSS 302 SHE HAD SHE TRADED OFF TO HER FRIENDS 72 4X4 SCOUT. SHE SOLD THE SCOUT 2 MONTHS LATER FOR A 45% PROFIT AND WENT OUT AND BOUGHT THE SECOND BOSS 302. WELL HE BLEW UP THE BOSS AFTER DISCONNECTING THE REV LIMITER. BUT HIS LUKE AFB FRIEND BUILT IT BACK UP PRETTY DANG STRONG.

And the fact that Kevin just "happened" to have it hidden away just waiting for you, it was like it was meant to be. That turned out great, as I was watching I wanted to suggest the method I used on my 77 F-250, I used doller store oven cleaner on the spray paint, let it sit a few minutes then hit it with a pressure washer. It worked pretty good and much faster. Then what was left I used the scotch brite pad method like you did. Thankfully I only had to do the cab and front clip, lol as the bed isn't original and not the same color, "yet". Hopefully that tip helps you out on future projects. Keep that smile ear to ear sir and enjoy that new ride. 😁

We had one of the nicest Torinos ever made, it was a two tone car with a Light tan body with a brown vinyl top, it had a 351 Cleveland in it!

This video was awesome! It was so cool to see your smile light up when you were first checking out the car. Glad Kevin had this gem for you in his inventory. JD with the save, bringing the gloves was genius! I love these videos. Makes my hopeful to find and work on my own car bucket list someday, and work on what I currently have. You are an inspiration sir!

my first car was a 1976 Torino Brougham fully loaded 4 door lime green outside and dark green interior. I have aways wanted to find one and restore it. They were the best cars and tough as nails. Great show looking forward to see the next episode as you progress with the updates

Glad to see that I'm not alone in thinking that the 1973 Torino Sport was a fine looking car. There was ONE at my high school in 1989. My grandmother had a regular 1972 Torino but it was cherry and ran great. The burnouts were impressive too!

After a 11 yr stint selling Fords, my dad moved to GM in 1968 but not before I experienced the Torino GT and I was in love. 1973 is a great year for that car and also the year I graduated from High School. That is one well appointed car! You didn't see many 400s in these rigs and ANY Stereo radio in 73 came as a costly option. CONGRATS...and happy 50th to the Torino. I know you'll treat her well and I PRAY you give her a restore. (hello...Dad????)

I bought a 1973 Gran Torino (2-door, with 351 "Cleveland" V-8) after my beloved 1967 Mustang got totaled by a drunk driver. My Torino wasn't the fastback, though. I'm glad you like it, I hope you are happy with it. Mine was really, truly, far & away the WORST car I ever owned (and I once owned a 1974 Vega!). I was about to go back to college, I HAD to have wheels. ANY wheels. Huge on the outside, only so-so interior space. Handled like a barge. Guzzled gas INCREDIBLY. Rusted like crazy. Fragile cloth seats. I was FINALLY able to unload it for $600 a couple of years later. But HEY, "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln..."
Still, I can tell you're happy, that's what counts. Best wishes!
