This show has tons of great qualities. One of them is that the characters are well fleshed out. Each person you encounter has a backstory, history, and motivation.
I love that kind of detail in stories and I can already see the spiderweb forming in this show and it has me excited! We already are on episode 5
Dany's advisor is Jorah Mormont. There has also been one other Mormont introduced who is Lord Commander of the Nights Watch Jeor Mormont

If you haven't already, it may help if you have a map of Westeros and Essos on hand. Taking notes of the family's names, sigils, house words, colors, and even songs will help you a lot along the way too.
Thanks mack_taylor, I will definitely get a map for sure! I have a book with 5 pages of notes so far, a lot to keep track of but I like complex deep stories and for sure like connecting the dots kind of like in the breakdown I did for this video
For future reference: The intro/credits sequence always features KL, Winterfell and the Wall, plus other locations specific to the episode ahead… hope that helps

@@ImmersiveReactions well it is different as you navigate each episode, and changes regularly but the first three pretty much are constant throughout
It's a very rich and immersive tale, Martin created some excellent characters, so many twists and turns to come (no spoilers of course) some of which you won't see coming, it helps the story from getting bogged down because there really is a lot going on, some of the smaller clues are so well hidden once something occurs you can think back several seasons and remember one little crumb and have that snap-your-fingers moment, "ah, should have seen that coming", it's so fun to watch as it picks up speed and intensity season after season.

And I think I speak for many of the "watchers" of reactions when I say that it's a breath of fresh air to see reactors who actually understand what's going on instead of just letting the footage roll over them and not taking anything in.

I would have said that I can give you spoiler free clarifications, but you're smart enough to capture everything by yourselves, and any other questions you might have will be answered in the History and Lore (can't wait to see those as well!).

@@ImmersiveReactions Even better! As many others have mentioned, every line of dialogue, however apparently useless, is crucial. They don't info dump, because it would be impossible to take everything in, but those small snippets are going to build up to much more.
(I remember another reactor's final video, with him saying that he regretted not paying attention in the beginning, because he missed so much and now the chance was gone. I was screaming through the screen :D )
I think so far I am catching a lot, but also if people want to steer us as well to remember certain things just quoting the show, on specific things that will be useful that we might have not fully thought was significant is fine with me. I do have a book with 5 pages of notes currently so I am keeping track that way as well.

First time commenting on your reactions and I am a book fan, so i have a hard time not commenting about the books. Only about little things and usually because something the creator's have said.
The books are POV so when Ned is watching Arya learning to sword fight the reader gets insight to his thoughts. He was remembering his sister, Lyanna and how much Arya reminds him of her.

I think Tyrion did do it somewhat for Jon (to give him a purpose) he saw how disillusioned Jon was and for the Lord Commander. Remember Commander Mormont said to Tyrion that he needed Ser Alliser to turn the recruits into men of the Nights Watch and he saw that Jon was good enough to train. He also saw that Ser Alliser was not training them. He was just having them beat each other up.

Regarding Ned’s inner thoughts at the end, personally I think you both are right. He is experiencing some level of ptsd from his own memories of combat as well as fearfully realizing Arya’s potential future. But at the same time he recognizes the type of person she is and wants her to have those skills in case she needs them. It reminds me of his decision about the direwolf pups. You want a puppy? You will care for it and potentially bury it yourself. You want a sword? You will learn how to properly use it.
I am a giant history nerd apart from lotr, I was studying to be a history teacher at one point. I have a knack for places and somewhat dates, but peoples names are HARD for me haha

LOTR and Tolkien inspired a great deal of GRR Martin's basis for GOT. Also a great deal of actual events in the Middle Ages, such as the war of the Roses for the politics of Kings Landing, or Ghengis Kahn's migrant horde fir the Dothraki.

I came for Avatar the last airbender reatctions. You made me stay for other shows and movies. It will be a while before I watch all the videos i want to but i wanted to say this.
No spoilers, but if u like the show, iirc the 4th season is the last one that is directly adapting the books. "A Song of Ice and Fire-ASoIAF" is the name of the book series, and there is so much different between the first four seasons of the show and the source material books that it is worth reading. I, myself still need to get my hands on them.
Last thing. Season 5 is where people start to get divided on wether or not the show is good. Some because they are book fans that are mad the show runners and writers "went off script," Aka didn't wait for the book franchise to finish before continuing with the show. To be fair to the show runners there isn’t a book 6 yet and this franchise was insanely popular while it was airing. The non-book reading fans like me just don't like season 5 and beyond because we believe the show's quality doesn't hold up in the later seasons. Though we do disagree on which season is the first bad one. Form your own opinions and don't let any toxic fans influence them. You'll get no bad feedback from me and the other real GoT fans that understand everyone is free to have any opinion about our beloved franchise.

hey thanks for the heads up! I'm super excited to dive deeper into Game of Thrones ive heard a lot about the differences between the show and the A Song of Ice and Fire books and I'm definitely planning to read them at some point
I appreciate the warning about the later seasons it's good to know there might be a shift in quality or storytelling approach I'll keep an open mind and form my own opinions as I watch it's always interesting to see how adaptations evolve especially when they outpace their source material

A lil backstory.. not a spoiler... 17 years prior to these events of the show, Danearys, viserys. Rhagar targaryan father Aerys Targaryan (the mad king) sat on the throne... targaryans ruled for hundredsss of years. Dragon fire forged the iron throne....
The current king Robert baratheon was betrothed to to marry Ned stark sister Lyana stark.... The story is rhagar targaryan kidnapped Lyana Stark and she died as you've learned already. That's the reason 17 years ago King Robert rebellion against the targaryan throne and killed Rhaegar in battle and Jaime lannister killed the mad king.. give you a lil better understanding of why we are where we are and the bitterness between families
