6:56 Technically, I think, and I might be wrong on the laws of succession here, if Tyrion is officially disinherited, it would probably pass to Kevan Lannister, who you mentioned and who we saw a couple of times (in 1x8 I think, and in 1x10 sitting at the table when Tywin shouted "they have my son"). I'm not sure, only because I don't know what are the laws in regards to women inheriting titles and how it would be ruled out in Cersei as a daughter vs Kevan as a brother. It is some sort of male-preference primogeniture as far as I understand, but not sure. Lancel Lannister, who served Robert, is Kevan's son. 10:01 I think on Margery, and that would be my guess, outside of Westerosi politics, there is a lot of "teenage boy" still in Joffrey, conflicting with his inner psycho. Unlike Sansa, who herself is a teenager and in objectively weak, and an easy target to be punched down and bullied, Margery is a young woman, who is very (very!) attractive and speaks all the right words while not be constantly sour. Sansa was constantly depressed, because he literally beheaded her father, but Joffrey is not the person to even begin to grasp tragedy, he literally smiled when wildfire blew up and started burning people, when even Tyrion was in shock. So he sees Margery and is "confused", not to small part her being very beautiful, like "what do I do? How do I appear kingly, a manly man who is doing serious business here of ruling and isn't afraid of anything ofc?"

I would say Cersei is aware of Margaery's intentions. At the dinner table Joffrey says about Margaery's charity "I'm sure she knows what she's doing". Cersei seeing it as manipulation or political maneuvering replies with "I'm sure she does".

I love in-depth analytical reactions like yours. There aren't enough channels like it. Unfortunately, too many people have no attention span and just want the over the top CZcams short type reactions.

Firing Barristan Selmy was one of Joffrey and Cersi’s dumber moves. Selmy is probably the most respected knight in the 7 kingdoms. If he had joined up with Stannis, or Renly, or Robb it would have been a big boost to their war effort. I think Tywin remarks about this.

Ser Barristan impressed Robert Baratheon so much at the Battle of the Trident that he had his own Maester tend to his wounds once the fighting was over even though Selmy killed quite a few of his Knights. He also pardoned him and asked him to continue to serve as Kingsguard

Breath of fresh air to see somebody who understands from the get-go what kind of character Margaery is! So many get suspicious and try to unearth some secret plot or agenda, but really she is just doing what all heiresses of powerful houses are ideally meant to do -- establishing soft power of the Tyrells

Margery. I do think there is some goodness in her heart, but it is interesting that it mostly coincides with politically savvy moves xD, which I think come first. I always viewed her as diplomat/politician first, but with some sense of decency, at least on the outside. You can clearly see how her and Loras are very well-educated on high society manners, nobility small talk, without revealing their "secret heart", which might as well be "good" (or might not be, who knows, but I think it isn't vicious maniacs hiding underneath polite masks). Tywin and Tyrion. This conversation is pure cruelty, it is brutal, and Tywin's attitude towards his son is soulcrushing to watch. I wish Tywin actually recognized that Tyrion is the closest child to him in terms of wits, strategy, being politically savvy, the actual perfect heir for Tywin, and also a decent person (at least in the presented world). But it is naive of me, because these obsessions with "establishing a dynasty that last thousands of years" (what he said to Jaime in 1x7), what Lannister means and how a Lannister should be, there are so blinding. Not going to lie, "jugglers and singers require applause" as a rebuttal was kind of conversation-ending savage, but otherwise, really, this is pure cruelty and verbal abuse and diminishing of one's personality (very hard to watch, even now).

I missed the live. I was off camping. So catching up now. First, I hate the toxicity of the GoT fandom at times. Second, I can't wait to see what you think of the differences between the books and the show going forward. Season 1 mostly sticks to the 1st book. We have lots of storylines that get changed or swapped, and even left out, in the show

I think the books may confuse you at this stage. Sansa's story in particular is very different. So is Catelyn's.

At its heart the Song of Ice and Fire stories (including the side stories like House of the Dragon/Fire and Blood and the Dunk and Egg novellas) thematically are really anti-war books. GRRM was a conscientious objector during Vietnam and did some kind of alternate civil service. I'd get more into that aspect but I don't even like vague spoilers and to really discuss it you'd need to be further along. But there are lesser themes he really enjoys: the idea of prophecy or destiny and the misinterpretation or accuracy of it (and consequentially free will always becomes part of that), what power really is, duty and responsibility, how maybe those who want the crown are the least suited to wear it, and a few more you discussed. Looking forward to S3, it's a banger.

If i had to guess why the views are down a bit it would be because of the time between reactions, I think people might just kinda forget about them and stuff, which is a tough problem to have when you have this thing called ''real life'' going on. Season 3 is easily my favorite season. So excited to watch with u guys. If u want to learn more of the lore of Westeros based on the books outside of the mainline series like Fire and Blood, I can suggest at least one channel that I follow.

Actually, rewatching this, it makes sense why Catelyn let Jaime go. After Jaime kills Karstark's son, all the men in camp want him dead and start getting hyped up. Brienne even remarks that they're getting drunk, and when the Karstarks eventually draw their swords, no one's going to stop them because who wants to die defending a Lannister? Jaime also says, 'Looks like it's my last night in this world.' He's expecting to die because of the energy in the camp. If she didn't set him free, he was going to die, and that's worse because then the Lannisters have no reason to keep Sansa alive. Catelyn letting him go isn't as dumb as it looks.

The books are written from the characters perspective ie; Bran chapter 1, Arya chapter 12 etc, but they aren’t narrated directly to the reader the way the History & Lore videos are. You could easily read book one A Game of Thrones concurrently with watching the series without getting spoiled…

With respect to episode 6 “Imprisoned’ you may want to know that George Takei who plays SULU in the Original STAR Trek 1966-1968, the first 7 Star Trek Movies, the ancestor in Mulan, conventions and cameo appearances, is the actor who plays the voice of the Warden in the “Imprisoned” episode. This allowed George Takei to draw on his own experiences of Prison camp Wardens, given how WWII impacted his life. During WWII, when George Takei was ages 5 through 9, he and his family were forcibly put in a Japanese Internment Camp, in the United States, because the US Government was afraid of all Americans of Japanese Origin or Descent. He survived the 4 war years as a kid, in a US guarded prison camp, because President FDR thought any American who had any tie to Japan, or had Japanese Ancestry was a possible threat to the national security of the United States. George Takei in the 2010’s wrote the play Allegiance (and acted in it) as a way of documenting his experiences growing up in a prison camp, just because of his Japanese ancestry until WWII was over. Then he and his family members that survived, (some did not) were allowed to go back to their previous existence, if possible. Currently George Takei is alive, well, and 86 years old. Those that survived were granted US citizenship but the US government did not formally apologize to the survivors until August 10th 1988, when Ronald Reagan signed the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 (at least 40+) years after the events. The act granted each surviving internee $20,000 in compensation, which was equivalent to $43,000 in 2022. Payments began in 1990, only to those survivors currently Alive, at the time the redress checks were sent out. A total of 82,219 received redress checks. The legislation stated that government actions had been based on "race prejudice, war hysteria, and a failure of political leadership" as opposed to legitimate security reasons. According to Wikipedia, “The Civil Liberties Act of 1988, Restitution for World War II internment of Japanese-Americans and Aleuts, states that it is intended to: “…1 acknowledge the fundamental injustice of the evacuation, relocation, and internment of United States citizens and permanent resident aliens of Japanese ancestry during World War II; … 2 apologize on behalf of the people of the United States for the evacuation, relocation, and internment of such citizens and permanent resident aliens; …3 provide for a public education fund to finance efforts to inform the public about the internment of such individuals so as to prevent the recurrence of any similar event; …4 make restitution to those individuals of Japanese ancestry who were interned; …5 make restitution to Aleut residents of the Pribilof Islands and the Aleutian Islands west of Unimak Island, in settlement of United States obligations in equity and at law, for - injustices suffered and unreasonable hardships endured while those Aleut residents were under United States control during World War II; …6 personal property taken or destroyed by United States forces during World War II; community property, including community church property, taken or destroyed by United States forces during World War II; and traditional village lands on Attu Island not rehabilitated after World War II for Aleut occupation or other productive use; discourage the occurrence of similar injustices and violations of civil liberties in the future; and …7 make more credible and sincere any declaration of concern by the United States over violations of human rights committed by other nations.”

Another thing to note (again the show didn’t really cover it that well) Stannis army is comprised mostly of troops from the Stormlands and some from the Crown lands. The bulk of Renlys’ supposed 100,000 man army was made up of men from the Reach- houses loyal to the Tyrell’s. So his forces are less than half of what Renly had originally

Cat absolutely made the right decision to free Jaime, allowing the Karstarks to murder him would have weakened their position. As for King Robb well he’s not really in a position to judge…
