  • Review on the 2014 Hyundai Equus Ultimate. The Hyundai Equus is a vehicle many of you have requested. Probably the car all Lexus LS460 fanboys can't stand to see as the Hyundai Equus Ultimate is the best car you all love to hate. I compare it to the 2013 Lexus LS460, 2013 Mercedes S550, and even the Genesis G80.

What's your opinion on a 2004 ls 430 with 128,000? It's a one owner and when I zoomed in at the engine looked like it had a timing belt serviced sticker on it. I love that car.

Same I love it as well and would love to have one one day. Smoothest engine on the planet. Anyway you can get a warranty? Parts can be a bit pricey. A subscriber told me that his door actuator went out and it was like a grand for the part alone. That’s my only concern with these older big body cars

In late 2019 purchased a 2016 Equus signature CPO with only 16,500 miles on it from a dealer in Matthews, NC. It's been, by far, my favorite of all the vehicles I've owned and your assessment of the drive quality and comfort is spot on. When I need to 'hit it' I turn off the traction control and engage sport mode. Such a fun ride!
The thing I like most is the purr of that V8 engine at idle.
The only issue I have with my Equus is that Blue Link support will terminate at the end of 2021. The cell receiver in the car is dependent on 2G technology, which all cell providers are phasing out at the end of the year. Thus, I will lose my ability to remote-start the car.

The 2015 four door genesis looks so much like a 5 series BMW without the nightmare repairs. I was hoping Lexus would have made their GS model more attractive in 2013 but in my opinion they failed. Christ man, absolutely beautiful vehicle. Fyi to those who don't know: The Equus's lineage goes back to 1999. Thus, it's not a new lineage and thus I would feel comfortable and safe purchasing a vehicle like the Equus and it not be a money pit years down the line.
Another Fyi: a 100k S Class Mercedes loses about $16,000/year due to depreciation (i.e. 80% of its value within the first five years). So, you see, the Mercedes S Class actually depreciates significantly more than this Equus.
When I first saw this car in the showroom few years, it took my breath away. I was considering a Lexus but decided to purchase a 2016 EQUUS after viewing Kevin's review. Don't regret the decision at all,

The Oil Dipstick was DISCOLORED and that means ONLY one thing....Ultra Hot Oil cooked the dipstick....Very loud Rocker Assemble noise under both Valve Covers. Adaptive Cruise Failed during the Test Drive. Sunroof does NOT like to be opened or closed...lots of noise. The actual driving part was above average...Reasonably quiet on Nexen 5000 skins and about 18mpg at 75mph. The Lexicon Sound System was extremely impressive for this Old Soldier. $13,500? I walked away when they offered me $3500 for my Mint Condition 2009 RX8 GT. Yeah...The Automobile Marketplace in America is a war zone in 2024.... JP

Uhhh how can people hate on this car. When I first saw this generation Equus, I was stunned to see that this is something that Hyundai was capable of doing, since this is a brand known for value-packed cars that are affordable. People have clearly never been in an Equus if they hate it, and I think Hyundai did really well with this Equus. I mean the inside alone feels nothing like an normal Hyundai vehicle. Even the original Hyundai Genesis was an amazing luxury car.

It is 100 percent foolhardy to pigeonhole a brand. I remember when the first LS400 came out and people went on about how it is a glorified Toyota and can't match Mercedes. People make the same mistake all the time. Hyundai is a huge company and they can match anyone if they put in the work. Genesis is going to compete with Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, Jaguar, you name it. Already the G70 is said to have better steering than the BMW 3 series and is better dynamically. One more generation and it may surpass the BMW 3 as an overall car. So get out of whatever name image that you think you may have and just drive a car or use a product without any preconceived notion of what brand it is. It's the product that matters more than the name on it. And brands aren't static. Sometimes they improve, sometimes they decline in overall quality.

I just don't get a SOLID feel and build that a Japanese car has. It goes beyond that; the paint quality, the rigidity, overall refinement, and stuff underneath the skin.
They just lack that last 10-15% of refinement that you find in a competitor once you start actually living day-to-day with the vehicles. I guess with new cars one can justify the price difference but used, I'd still stick a trusty GS/LS from Lexus.

What I meant was it doesnt have the air struts like the Equus did
Here is some information I puled off the the web
Suspension can be adaptive without air struts
      GENESIS ADAPTIVE CONTROL SUSPENSION
To achieve the smoothest possible ride comfort while retaining engaging dynamics, Genesis G90 is fitted with a multi-link suspension design for minimized camber and toe changes throughout the suspension travel range. The Genesis Adaptive Control Suspension with electronic damping control smoothly and precisely manages body motions throughout the range of dynamics with minimal compromises to ride comfort. This adaptive control suspension, sourced from Sachs/ZF®, offers additional stability through its Dynamic Stability Damping Control (DSDC) feature by providing independent damping control in both rebound and compression strokes of suspension travel for improved body and yaw control. Integrating with the Electronic Stability Control (ESC), the new DSDC was developed to simultaneously increase agility and stability by effectively managing the front and rear wheel damping forces. Hydro-constructed rear cross member bushings also help improve damping for optimal handling stability and comfort. For increased rigidity, a high-vacuum die cast aluminum shock absorber housing and diamond-shaped strut bar are applied to further improve the G90’s ride and handling performance.
To complement G90’s handling dynamics, a Rack-Mounted Motor-Driven Power Steering (R-MDPS) unit delivers precise steering response with a natural feel. The R-MDPS unit also optimizes assist-and-recovery steering calibrations and features a rigid torsion bar for optimum steering responsiveness. In addition, a Variable Gear Ratio (VGR) adjusts the gear ratios by section, providing maximum high-speed driving stability and low-to-mid speed agility. Large, 19-inch turbine-blade design alloy wheels with 245/45R19 front and 275/40R19 rear performance tires ensure immediate response to steering inputs and precise handling character.
The Genesis G90 is outfitted with large 14.8-inch ventilated front rotors on the 5.0L V8 and 14.2-inch on the turbocharged V6 for greater fade resistance and balanced braking performance. Additional brake cooling is delivered through dedicated vents in the front fascia for enhanced front brake heat dissipation. G90 brake calipers use a 4-piston fixed design in front and a 2-piston fixed design in rear.

The Equus and the Genesis are excellent cars I'm truly saddened and insulted that you would even mention Toyota I mean Lexus to a Genesis the only thing that could probably match the Equus / G 90 Genesis Maybe the 7 Series Mercedes but the Genesis is thousands of dollars cheaper

If this was AWD I'd be all over it. I live in Boston and RWD is no good.

You also have to consider its a very heavy car at 4500 lbs.. so the weight is there. Also, 2014 and up have snow mode that limits throttle, if you get snow tires as well you can be in better shape than most fwd cars out there
