Carrot Top did something remarkable for comedy. "Corny humor" is something most comedians avoid at all cost. Carrot Top decided to base his entire act on corny jokes, and he made it work! And here he shows that he can do more traditional comedy quite well too. That's talent.

He was talking too fast, he didn’t give the audience enough time to react and laugh. Subconsciously, I think people wait until a comic pauses to laugh. You don’t laugh during a joke, you laugh at the various punchlines essentially. He’s more just telling a funny story, he’s not quite doing a comedy routine. I think a lot of the other comics did it better. Better jokes, better tangents, etc. This was just alright, but I’m not a huge fan of his or anything so maybe I’m just jaded. The 1993 snow storm in Birmingham was a freak of nature. I am from there and remember it. We will never see 13 to 18 inches of snow again. It really shut the town down for four days before anyone could start moving around again.

I remember Alabama getting shut down back then. I remember it because a news item about the whole state only having 2 legitimate snowplows for the roads, as opposed to the little pickup truck plows. I never knew why people didn't just drive through it until I was down South in a minor snowstorm and it was dangerous as hell to have all the inexperienced drivers coming at me.

My mother was trapped in a hotel in Gatlinburg TN- they would form special old lady special forces groups to search the parking lot for cars with candy bars (feet of snow meant they had to dig out a car for a while just to access interior- if they guessed the car location right). I saw Carrot Top play at my college (Georgia Southern University) at around 1991-92. He was hilarious. After the show I hung out and met him. I had a very nice looking Ben & Jerry's "Cherry Garcia" pink and burgundy tie-dyed shirt on that he loved and complimented. He asked if he could get that shirt from me. He had sold out of his Carrot Top t-shirts (the one pictured in this video that burned and was framed), but he had the one he wore for the show. So I told him I'd take that one. It was too small for me because at that time he was very thin, but I wore it back to my dorm room anyway. Scott Thompson (his real name) was very nice and I helped him load his prop trunks into the back of his small Toyota pickup truck with the bed shell top covering the trunks in the back. He locked his act (those trunks) up with the tiny bed shell top key on his keyring.
Over the years, I have no idea what happened to the t-shirt he gave me. I could never really wear it since he was so skinny at that time compared to me. Anyway, it is a great memory and I was always excited to see how successful he became after that with his incredible Vegas residency, since I had shared a fun moment with him at the beginning of his career, before the time he's describing in this video.🤙
