Death Stranding PSA: Don't Spend Too Much Time In Chapter 2

- We got a nice spoiler-free Death Stranding tip for you, one that can save you potentially hours of time.
In large open-world games, it can be easy to lose yourself in the desire to complete each area as you encounter it--especially if you're aiming to 100 percent the game. When it comes to Death Stranding, however, you should try to get to Episode 3 in the story as quickly as possible.
In the video above, Ben Janca explains why you shouldn't spend too much time in the second episode of Death Stranding. Once you get to Episode 3, the game really begins to open up--offering new areas to travel to, intriguing story details, cool items, a fast-travel mechanic, and the ability to fabricate vehicles. Since you unlock fast travel in Episode 3, you can go back and clean up any lingering missions that you skipped in Episode 2's area. Just try to beeline it to Episode 3.

Ha, not falling for this again. Last time I "hurried" past chapter 2 I got tuberculosis.
I literally still haven't left chapter 2 in rdr2 lol

Vanildoge The PC gamer if you look at the lost packages in that timeframe one of them says “YongYea’s Lost Cargo.”
Ryan Reyes Ah, glossed over it, the text is just so small, that’s more of a UI/Menu hinderance though
Slugboi Premium what a catch
Slugboi Premium Holy shit, eagle eye.
So this is what Kojima ment about the world has to unite to complete this game!

TheM7guy definitely
no
I don't get it...
We have to help each other beat the game
Built over 20 zombies ziplines in the snowy mountains so people don’t go through hell of BTs like I did that place is actually hell.

I know right...

I connected to a few zip lines ppl had built up there. Maybe one was yours!
I did the same too.
I spent all the time in Chapter 2 and regret nothing! It is important to know that you can "move on" whenever you want, but it's the first time the game really opens up for you to explore and try things out (albeit mostly on foot and trike). I really enjoyed exploring the area and taking it slow while getting all the centers up to 5-stars and finding all the memory chips before moving on.
As someone who is busy with work and being a parent and husband. Thank you, for the time saver.
Why don't you ask your wife's boyfriend to deal with your wife and child while you game ?
That's what Beto O'Rourke does.

Thanks for the heads up. I definitely would have been grinding to finish sidequests after seeing an in-game message like that warning that you might not be able to come back. Glad to hear you can still go back if you want though ;)
I'm in chapter 3 and I approve of this message.
I'm further in chapter 3 with awesome equipment now and I not only approve this message, I HIGHLY recommend it.
But you notice that the secondary missions are infinite in this chapter?
Fuuuck I did all the opposite, why I didn't watch this video before
Andrew Maksy Yeah, can anyone else confirm this? I kept on doing the deliveries in the chapter 2 area after reaching 3, and after I finish the last order for one of the locations and rest at the private room, 6 more pop up at the same place and I’m pretty sure they’re relatively the same missions again
@@prince.k2783 just do the main story and then the secondary missions, I end chapter 2 on Sunday, I'm at the beginning at the 3rd chapter, I'm gonna tell you, finish chapter 2 was a awesome satisfaction, because my travel was hard, enjoy the process my friend, and as I said do the main story first.
This is the first useful tip I've seen here in a long time. Thanks!
I spent those 20 hours, but the game was so relaxing for me that I enjoyed every minute of it. This game simply hit me in all my weak spots in the best possible ways. I understand perfectly why it's not for everyone, but it became one of my favorite games ever, and even after a year of getting the platinum trophy and doing everything you can do (including reading the two part novelization) I still find myself thinking of this game and missing it.
Same here. I love this game. ❤️
Yeah it shock me how much i loved this game , i only played it because my brother dropped it , for like a year and when i ask him about at it he calls it delivery simulator, not encouraging description when i played the game myself, first chapter was hard then it clicked , still not platinumed yet i am at ch 12
I avoided it because I didn't know what it was, even now I'm skipping dialogue 😅, I find it weirdly relaxing to complete my deliveries, especially since I ride everywhere on the bike and just pause to like a sign or two.
That orange hat and vest is nice. Thanks for the heads up. I'm someone who is always super tempted to complete everything before moving on.
Only have 2-3 missions left so I’ll just finish it at this point, but I regret nothing. The bike has made my life insanely easy and I’ve had it for awhile now so it’s been smooth sailing ever since. Loving this game so far.
Exactly the same here. I've really enjoyed it even if it's half a mistake to stay in Chapter 2. Have fun dude!
Mr BobaJango Thanks man, you too. So happy I decided to get this game and look past all the negative people commenting online.
It's been true to most old rpgs. Side quests are much easier to be completed near the end/final boss.
Walking simulator skip
@@xviperahmed8194 good for you
for speed runners nowawadys, sure
Completionist runs and XP hogs tended to focus on sidequest before story in order to get max XP at the relevant area.
lol originally we did side quests to buff ourselves up before tackling a boss. Why would you go back after you're overpowered as fuck and the difficulty ends up being trivialized
But now a days rpg side quest does scale at your level.. Or below two levels at your current level.. Depends on your difficulty settings.. Just like ac Odyssey, and witcher 3
Great advice. I got a heads up and blew through the story to get to chapter 3. Deliveries don't feel like a slog anymore. Now I'm looking forward to going back and completing the chapter 2 area.
Right when I get done doing everything in chapter 2. I mean countless hours and tedious work on foot for all of it. I see this. Work builds character so I feel I'm stronger on the inside for doing it like that
@Gerry Buckets oh boys, you aint seen nothin yet! Haha, hope you enjoy~
@Gerry Buckets for me the highway is barely built, im usually the one building em up.
@Gerry Buckets yeah that wasn't my experience. I've had to build almost every road I use. plenty of everything else though.
@@shane2863 it's been like that for me as well. Building the roads is really cool though
@@gimmedataids it is. Not complaining at all. Truth be told I think they did a solid job of not populating your world with TOO much help.
awesome vid, legit thank you
Wish I would have found this video 25 hours ago, damn.
Glad I caught this. Thanks for the heads up 👍
Thank you, I needed this
Ugh i absolutely fell for this. The dialogue and all the warnings make it seem like all the deliveries will be lost. Mama's call was particularly misleading. It gives me the feeling that the fast travel system was originally meant to appear waaay later in game.
Wow just a helpful video. Thanks guys.
This game is fucking outstanding. I am loving it. It’s so serene & beautiful.. yet ominous & haunting.. I love how you can interact with everyone’s helpful tools & ladders.. and you can hear the remnants of their voices.. god this game is awesome!!
So u just described the games atmosphere and aesthetic without actually saying how Interesting the GAMEPLAY is for a Video game. Tells me enough. Pretentious WHACK shit.
I think those voices you hear now and then have to do with the story. Not sure. Not there yet
Nikzedik lol!!!! Your so upset man.. what did this game ever do to you?! Let me tell you something.. just because this game doesn’t CATER to your spoiled mindset of “instant gratification” and it’s actually a unique and different title you shit all over it. Plain & simple.. this game IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. It takes a certain kind of person to find this game enjoyable. Don’t let this ass clown make that decision for you.
Nayden lol your a punk ass dude. Maybe this game just won’t be for you? Because it IS basically a FedEx sim. Sure it has some different features.. it has stealth.. it has combat later into the game.. it has all of that.. but at the heart of this game is micro management. & if your the kind of person who doesn’t find that enjoyable then this game will not be for you. I was just voicing my biased opinion. Everyone has one. So no need to shit on others mate.
Sounds like someone trying pretty hard to justify spending 60 on a walking sim
I was just about to grind hours into this, thanks for the heads up!
Thanks! Great tip - was just at the point of wondering if I was spending too much time in chapter 2 myself! Time to push on...
Thank you!! Exactly what I needed to know
thank you for making this
I am getting stuck on PS4 in a loading screen after Sam fall asleep on the boat dreaming about Amelia for about 5 mins. It never stop. Should i exit game and come back?
Thanks! Appreciate this!
Thank you for this. Unfortunately I've already spent about 3 hours grinding it after the final fight in chapter 2 but I'll just move on and leave it for later then. Saves me some time from the sounds of it.
Short, sweet and informative... thanks for the tip.
Glad this video exists. I’ve already spent 10 hours in chapter 2 and have been wanting to move forward. Glad to hear I can come back later. The good news is that while spending time in chapter 2 I got really comfortable with the gameplay mechanics which made getting to knot port city easier for me.
Thank you.. Just turned around to stick with chapter 2 but thought, it's worth a search to see what's up. Thanks! :)
Damn this video is helpful. Covers exactly what I wanted to check!
I started the game as it came out and have been doing the quests in the area cus the game said I should and I didnt wanna miss out on stuff lol. Ty for the warning.
The way he said bye at the end 😂
I'm on that moment right now! Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for this!!
The way I did it was spending 29 hours like him in Ch 2. Then when moved to chapter 3 I am doing everything there and spent along time. The question is: is it ok to not come back to chapter's 2 area and do those side contract? Also, what happens if I reduce the amount of time I spend doing side missions later on in further chapters? Would certain characters die if I stop supplying them, or is it just a matter of collecting materials and likes which definitely help. I am really tired from doing all that , I feel obligated and I already spent 44 hours and still didn't even finish ch3. So if no major affect from ignoring side missions, that would be awesome, I mean I can spend few hours doing side missions and then continue the story.
Thank you guys!!
Does somebody know where the chapter gate entrance....is ?
I really cant find it
Good tip. It's one in the morning, my boots are wrecked, I'm covered in black goo, timefall has wrecked all my shit and my stamina is shot to hell. Might be best to just follow the main quest for now.
Don't get me wrong, this game is absolutely amazing. But doing everything from the beginning is going to take an insane amount of time with the starting gear. It's just like Souls I guess. If an area is kicking your arse, probably best to move on and come back later with better gear/more experience etc.
I got up to Mover Rank in chapter 2 and still didn't integrate the Ludsen Fan área, i totally overlooked. Am I still going to be able to link that if I got aboard the ship to chapter 3??
The game doesnt gave me any reason to do side stuff anyway. but how do i know which chapeter i'm on?
18 hours later and I've literally just finished chapter two and all of the quests... XD god damn it
Hi I just stated chapter 3 but went back to chapter 2 Area by mistake how do I get back to new area?
Thank you, already two hours into it and I'm going crazy
nice heads up for tomorrow night.
Great! Thank you!
How would I start chapter 3. I have started 2 and delivered the Oxy but I cannot find where the boat is.
Central Knot city I think
Thank u guys 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️🔥
thanks! i was about to embark on a VERY long gaming session to do all those side quests
Yes but please someone tell me if orders are infinite or what. I am in chapter 3 about 2 weeks and still I have a lot of them
I just started chapter 2 and spent like a whole day on it. In order to progress to chapter 3 I take it I just Continue with the main jobs for Sam yeah?
I've been useinf chapter 2 to her use to the controls and how to avoid/take on MULES and BT since I don't have any weapons other than the blood grenade but I'm desperate to get back a vieacle as I lost the bike after falling off the bridge into a deep bit of water
I need help and don't know what to do. I didn't know you could come back to earlier areas, but my real problem is that I'm stuck in chapter 2 and I can't get out. 72 hours of Chapter 2, so far, I think because the 'confidential' documents' are missing from the MULE post box in chapter, 11 and now if I try to get a new order, the 13th Order of Chap 2, the URGENT delivery of Cryptobiotes, the order simply isn't there. Can someone please help me? I really want to get to chapter 3!!! otherwise, I don't want to do this but is there anyway that I can go back and start from the beginning again?
Honestly, I really appreciate this.
How do you go back to chapter 2?
How far into chapter three should you go before getting back to side quests? This video doesn't say anything about that. Or are people good the second they enter chapter three? Oh, I just recharged the trike, by the way.
Hinterlands all over again
PTSD kicks in
Dragon age 3?
Can you guys tell me how can i dodge? As we saw in the trailers, Sam can do stepback dodge
Hold down L2-R2 and press X :)
I've almost grinded chapter 2 area but when I moved on and unlocked new buildings and equipments I knew it was better to keep going and come back later. The online community is awesome, we find bridges and roads everywhere (didn't unlocked ziplines yet but I look forward to it), vehicles on garage, materials on storage, etc.
I need to head back to that area eventually but I did a lot of deliveries there before I moved on but yea still need to get them 5 stars
go back to chapter 2 area sidequests as soon as you get to chapter 3? or as soon as you finish chapter 3?
@@pdaw101 yup, figured it out. quite the difference
Ain't a man till you've had a man
just started and was actually just starting to do the sidequest grind :/ thanks for the tip
Once upon a time, America was desolate, and the people disconnected. But one day, one brave soul undertook a mission to reconnect America, and the people living in it. A man, called Sam, a delivery man, an Amazon delivery man. This man trekked the vast landscape, planning the best route possible to deliver the goods on time. He faced many obstacles on his route, rocks, rain, rivers, snow, uneven landscape, and boredom. Over time, he built constructs to hasten his journey, and improve his reputation on delivering packages. This process was long and arduous, but he was determined to succeed in his mission to reconnect the people, and America as a whole. And succeed he did. He was a man, a myth, a legend. Many years have past since that time, and the country is now reborn. Nobody knows what became of him, of the one they call Sam. But legend has it... that he’s still walking, in America and beyond, still braving the perils of delivering packages.
You forgot he has to face mules and BT's too. Nice summary of the story
@Paragon Bytes I didn’t forget, I just didn’t want to add them, as I thought it would either ruin, or detract from the me poking fun aspect of the game and it’s apparent monotony.
Great tip, thanks guys. I was about to move to chapter 3, then that woman warns you. Good to know I can come back, with improved gear that makes area for chapter 2 easier :)
how do i get to the Area to go to chapter 3?
How do go back? Fast travel?
Just started with Chapter2 - Thanks for the tip
Thanks for the tips boys!
Is it okay to just focus on main story without doing the side quest? Or is the side quest can really be helpful to make the main story much easier? I don't have much time to play, so I just want to focus on the main story. Then I'll do the side quest post game, maybe occasionally. But if it's important, then I'll do the side quest while doing the main quest (after chapter 2, of course).
Doing the side stuff does help, as it'll increase your rank more, thus unlocking more stuff for Sam, like more upgrades to the amount of weight he can carry at one time, and other things. But that also depends on which missions you do, as some have certain objectives to complete, and will give you more "likes" from the area you're delivering to.
@@War624 I play a lot of RPGs, and as I didn't see "level" on the menu, I forgot that completing a delivery actually raise Sam's "status". Lol.
Then I'll do the side quest if I feel like it. Thanks!
@@pretified3173 Lol. No problem, dude. Hope you're enjoying it.
What episode do it end?
How do u know what chapter your in
Exactly what I wanted to know . Y'all the real mvps
So do the side stuff after chapter 3 ?.
Yep
Yeah. You get the power skeleton which are like exoskeleton legs in chapter 3. They are an absolute game changer. Once you acquire those, deliveries become MUCH easier as you can carry heavier loads and move around much easier. Once you start placing power stations around or using other players power stations, you’re pretty much a God like Amazon delivery guy.
Better yet do it after chapter 5.
You get a particular building that changes the game _dramatically_ and makes finishing the chapter 2 area considerably easier.
A Skeleton I can’t remember what it is, is it the zip-line? Because if so you are dead right. I wish people worked more efficiently to create zip lines considering there’s a cap on your personal chiral bandwidth. Imagine having a zip-line system stretching to literally every drop off. I can see it being done...in fact, I wonder if it has 🤔 that might warrant a CZcams search. I’ve made some pretty decent systems myself along with some others.
Thanks for that!!!!
what even are sidemissions in this game?
I question please...is the side missions unlimited?
Good tip, nice work.
Just started this game a couple of days ago, and literally intended to stay in chapter 2 for some time in addition to several hours that I already have spent in it. And then I randomly stumble upon this video.
I'm about 14 hours into the game and I'm still on chapter 2. I've been nipping back and forth between the Wind Farms and Capital Knot City, doing side missions and getting a good reputation. I tried to make it west but the BTs got me and the TF was so severe that I lost the cargo I was carrying almost instantly!
I'm actually scared to try to make it west again.
Terrific game. Most immersive experience I've had for a while now.
When you come back to the eastern area with a crap ton of PCC2's and set up zip lines to the wind farm ...
Would be interesting to know how much it took me to complete each chapter. My playthrough took 124 hours.
Thanks. I just unlocked side orders. Might do a couple more side orders and then move on to Chapter 3. Only played the whole game for 10 hours.
HOW ABOUT PROVIDING INFO ON HOW YOU GET BACK????
Yes, I know about fast travel. But is there a way to go from Central to Eastern region without using that, since it takes your equipment?
after that fight I'm ready to go to chapter 3 and find conan later
Conan is in chapter 3 so ur good
This is a good point but I do think it's good to master the fundamentals before moving on. That being said unlocking premium deliveries and grenade pouches asap is important.
THANK YOU !!!!
Just bought this game on steam sale. Thx for the heads up. Like!
I’ve had this game for 6 months and today was the first time I saw this shark octopus thing form the tar
Thank you very much! hehe
Thanks for this, I would have definitely have spent at ton of time completing side quests as soon as I saw that message too heh.
Thanks for the warning! Really sounded like you would not get to return in-game...
Cool thanks! 👍
Wish I would've known this sooner. I was so worried I couldn't come back 😅
Do you guys mean episode 2?
Also not the reverse trike can do jumps or hops to help get over things
this game is about helping each other.. its my hardest time to enter first time any region without that chiral network.. and from here i send thanks to whoever put a ladder or a rope or a post box or a bridge in the exact time needed.. it helped a lot
Wish I knew this a few days ago, spent like 10hrs in chapter two completing as much as I could before entering the next area in chapter 3

No, Gamespot just got the money.
Death stranding is a great game. Games don't have to be shooters or action based to be good. Kojima is doing something new and fresh and I'm enjoying the hell out of it so far
I know, this game is good. But most news and review sites do not care about the stuff they mention. It is all about money and popular opinions to gain traffic.
