FRAUD ALERT - EAA AirVenture 2023 - Oshkosh

- For the 2nd year in a row my credit card was compromised during EAA AirVenture. I'm just trying to get awareness out there do the community. I made very few purchases during my 4 days at the event, but they got me.
Watch your online banking / credit card activity close!!!
Get yourself and RFID blocking wallet. Scammers are walking around with scanning equipment that picks up the RFID transmitted from credit cards. They then clone the cards or use the info for online purchases.

I'm surprised that there are wallets sold without RFID blocking, I have mine for over 5 years.
My wallet is very old, time for an upgrade.
Corey. Your videos have been very helpful to me. I intend to watch them all. I recently got into a 1/4 share of a Mooney 65 20C. I was a Flight Engineer on all the heavies (30 years) and have an A&P. IA in the next year/two. I will be working on our Mooney and eventually others at our local airport. I don't know much about small airplane maintenance but learning. I was watching your video on the spark plug problem and couldn't find where to comment. Good video. We've had out cards compromised a couple times.

This happened to me visiting a famous golfing establishment back east. The RTJ Trail. My CC# was lifted from either Pro Shop or restarant, (the only 2 places I'd used the card on that trip) then while in airport I got call several high $ purchases occured in other cities back east. I asked my CC company to share the names amd/or ship to address of the fraudulent transactions. They refused to provide that, for fear I might hunt down the perps. They weren't far from the mark on that... 😉.
It's so aggravating, but seems to be the world we live in. I hope you were able to get it all straightened out!

Same thing happened to me and my corporate card at Oshkosh. Must be RFID readers.
Sorry to hear that. I wonder what makes (if anything) corporate cards more susceptible.
Was the charge declined?
The scammers were able to get a couple of charges through before the bank caught on. Of course I’ll be fully refunded.

No, there were no purchases at the show. They were all online purchases. There must be a skimmer on a card reader somewhere.

It just make you sick knowing they do this while you are trying to have fun.
