We go flying with Kyle Franklin during his drunk man comedy routine at Oshkosh 2022 Video sponsored by: Paradise Jets www.paradisejets.com Bryan Turner / justplanesilly
After all my life seeing this fun segment from the sidelines it's crazy to watch this 'act' from the airplane/pilot POV without the announcer screaming. You get a real appreciation for the stick and rudder and throttle work going on!
The hardest flying ever, once again, is flying badly; safely. The people who do the comedy acts are some of the best sticks out there and this video only goes to prove they're not mere mortals. Thanks Kyle for letting Erik put cameras on your Super Cub to film this amazing routine!
I swear you can almost hear that little Cub giggle as Kyle puts it through its paces. Takes a Hellova lot of skill to throw and airplane at the ground like that and miss.... You can sure see his Daddy in him.
I love the wife beater and backwards cap and the flailing for help LOL. I'm walking across a bridge in Cincinnati and people are looking at me weird cause I'm laughing so hard
He's a better pilot "drunk" than I am sober. I do think a couple of mustard stains on the _white beater_ are needed, though. I mean, we are doing video now. That wasn't the case when I first saw someone do this act back in the 1980s at my home airport, Bowman Field, in Louisville, Kentucky. Great job. 👍
Erik your stuff is always awesome, but man this may be one of if not the best you've done in my opinion. I love seeing how busy Kyle is in there. Talk about energy management and having command of the plane in slow flight. If he ever decides to do STOL contests he'll be a contender. Speaking of that...I'd love to see your take on and the way you'd film one of the STOL greats at work like Steve Henry or one of the Flying Cowboys. Great video! Thoroughly enjoyed that!!
I'm collecting these videos. I have had a 240p youtube video of his performance for many years. Maybe because it was the first, I like it better than the others. But this week I looked and have found many fantastic video like this one in HD. Thanks for posting it!
Usually when I fly like that, the tower asks if there's an instructor on board. I have to say, "Uh yeah. I'm an instructor."🥴 (great flying, by the way...😁)
I wish Kyle would wear shoulder harnesses, and have them installed in the PA-18. He sure knows how to handle a Super Cub. Great Job as always. I loved his Kitfox routine from several years back, just like his daddy!! Salute to Jimmy and Bobby!!
He is so into the character that he doesn't even to be sitting square in the seat. For all the rudder work, I would be making sure I am really seated well. Great share Erik Johnston!
6:35 this is what makes the show. Every time he one-wheels it in the first half, flying all sideways, but always gets it straight before touching that wheel down. Edit* Ground looping it at low speed after engine shutdown, but not when dragging a wing when turning into the taxiway, is a great demonstration that un-intentional ground loops are actually a pilot induced option.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I have always loved his act. Absolutely amazing to see behind the scenes. He is a true master at his craft - as are you.
Man you only get to watch one video by this guy and think it is real. Was a fun ride. Took a few minutes for me to realize he wasn’t just getting incredibly lucky.
I don't even understand how this is possible, it looks even more terrifying from the inside :) I'd be scared to do this at 5000 feet, let alone 10 feet off the ground.
Very awesome and skilled flying! Thank you for the show and the unique camera angle never seen it from this perspective of course. I haven't seen this act but a similar one that I'm sure you're familiar with. A guy built his plane in prison and flew out and happens upon an air show. I hope we are you at Oceana!
I would love to fly this routine for Kyle Franklin in his Beautiful Piper Super Cub of all the Tailwheel Aircraft I’ve flown this is the best yet in a perfectly Built Aircraft and he’s doing a fantastic performance handling this in real time situations and maneuver
2:11 Notice it says experimental on the side of the plane. That doesn't worry me nearly as much as when my boyfriend used a condom that said "Experimental" on the wrapper.
Erik, gotta tell you I Just stumbled across your videos yesterday (fighter pilot vs tanker pilot) and they are great. But, I gotta tell you - and I know photo guys have zero control over this - but wish there was a way to stop the digital cameras from strobing the props. It's disconcerting to see a prop idle during flight.
There’s a lot of risk factors in this Aircraft so you have to be on the top of what you are doing and jumping out on too the ramp is still a dangerous way to getting hurt very fast

Really wish airshows would do away with announcers... They ruin the awe and sound of the shows.
👍agree👍 Glad to view without the announcer’s shtick…I get it but…Excellent performance. Good idea to have Goodyear as an equipment sponsor.
Awesome skills

Nice to see another pilots first solo look just like mine. Well done. Great memories.
i chuckled
I’ve watched Kyle’s act for years and it’s SOOO cool to see the incredible control involved in making it look out of control.

Haha, that’s awesome
haha, OK.... was it the Robeling or the Purple People Bridge.... heh
@@Cobalt135 I was on MLK crossing over 71 headed towards Gilbert Ave. Still a bridge, just not as grand as the two you listed.
Excellent video Erik! Amazing flying skills. I had no idea how close the h-stab and wings get to the runway lights and ground!!!
GREAT VIDEO! I enjoyed the screaming for help flying down the show line. I have to start doing that on my landings, too. 👍

Great job. 👍
And I thought the Blues were crazy… this dude is on another level!
Neat to see this from the first row instead of from the balcony seating. Well done! 30+ years of watching teams do this and it never gets old.

It’s not until you see a video like this you realize how hard it is to fly this way without breaking the plane
Holy cow! That bit where he’s clowning out the door and running the controls low over the runway is brilliant flying!

I was kind of amazed to see a very technical act like this performed with only a lap belt as well.
I wish I could handle a Super Cub like that when sober..
Love the paint job too, a nice nod to Jimmy and the Waco Mystery Ship. Great routine.
This guy is mad and performs an absuletly great and funny show! Congrats from Portugal 🤣🤣👍🇵🇹
Thank you Erik.... Kyle and Liz were awesome to watch from cockpit !!!!!
One of the very Best Air Show Comedy Acts Ever!
He is so into the character that he doesn't even to be sitting square in the seat. For all the rudder work, I would be making sure I am really seated well. Great share Erik Johnston!
Its amazing how fun it is to watch someone fly this "badly". Oh but the poor airplane!
That was some crazy flying. Not sure who took the biggest beating to their frame, the plane or Kyle.😄 Great flying stunts!!
I’m loving this
I like this guy !
6:35 this is what makes the show.

Agreed!
What a pro!
Sadly flying so low it is not a case of if but when. I wish him a very long and healthy life.
Stay on the couch Karen
Nice rudder turn. Love it!
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I have always loved his act. Absolutely amazing to see behind the scenes. He is a true master at his craft - as are you.
It takes a really good pilot to fly that bad. That’s an amazing routine.
It really is!
I remember seeing a guy do the same act in a clip-wing Piper in the 1960s at the Reading, Pennsylvania air show.
Another great. Performance! Thanks
No helmut, no shoulder harness, brave and very talented pilot.
His helmet was on backwards, maybe why it wasn't noticeable.
More than drunk this guy is the best pilot of the airshow haha
That looks like a lot of fun, drunk or not. 👍👍😎😎
Heck! It’s difficult to fly this bad !!! 🤪😂👍🏼
Edit… the rudder inputs are hilarious 😂
Incredible control. Awesome pilot.
This has been my experience playing dcs except I'm not under control and doing it on purpose
Hahaha I can relate when flying with a mouse
Love it! Pilots, thanks and be safe!
That was amazing your inspiring in your programs it shows a billity
Thanks Erik! Good stuff!!
Amazing flying
We hope to see you in Oceana September 17-18 2022! Or Maybe one year down the road there usually always in September.
That's some wild flying. 😂You really have to know what you airplane is capable of.
Man you only get to watch one video by this guy and think it is real. Was a fun ride. Took a few minutes for me to realize he wasn’t just getting incredibly lucky.
Haha
I don't even understand how this is possible, it looks even more terrifying from the inside :) I'd be scared to do this at 5000 feet, let alone 10 feet off the ground.
I'm amazed he's not in a 5 point harness. Dude must be really drunk.
Good fun!
An amazing performance! I can't help but wonder what people think when they see him practicing. 🙂
They're thinking who would let a student pilot that bad solo.
Very awesome and skilled flying! Thank you for the show and the unique camera angle never seen it from this perspective of course. I haven't seen this act but a similar one that I'm sure you're familiar with. A guy built his plane in prison and flew out and happens upon an air show. I hope we are you at Oceana!
that’s insane, i’ve never personally seen him fly in real life but this makes me want to so badly, what a pilot
Questo è il secondo video che vedo, sei un pilota incredibile, un vero asso dell'aviazione. Complimenti
That's one abused cub! Haha! Awesome!
Woah - what amazing flynig !!!
This is a gem.
Only two ways you could fly a Cub that bad - Have Kyles skills or actually be drunk. Great show Kyle.
The skill it takes to make many believe ...
Kyle must have seen my first and only flight in a SuperCub.
I'd be disappointed not to see this routine at an airshow!
Would love to see an interview and tour
The video next Saturday is the Walkaround with Kyle’s Super Cub
It takes a lot of skill to fly like that, in my case is what I appreciate rather than the show itself
I've been watching Kyle and his family fly for many years. One of the best ever! I say Kyle and his family would make a great movie!
I would love to fly this routine for Kyle Franklin in his Beautiful Piper Super Cub of all the Tailwheel Aircraft I’ve flown this is the best yet in a perfectly Built Aircraft and he’s doing a fantastic performance handling this in real time situations and maneuver
the great thing about flight simulators is you can try out this routine using much larger and more expensive planes and different kinds of booze
Lmao!! Damn that’s funny!!
So awesome.
Rivals the Raptor. Takes skill to make you look that skilless.
That’s definitely the way a Kyle would fly a plane 😊
Nice climb rate on the piper, he's a skilled pilot
2:11 Notice it says experimental on the side of the plane. That doesn't worry me nearly as much as when my boyfriend used a condom that said "Experimental" on the wrapper.
Haha!!!
Honestly the way we was flying I’d call the police if I didn’t know it was an act
What a pro!👍🏼👍🏼
This reminds me of how I fly in X plane mobile!!!!
Erik, gotta tell you I Just stumbled across your videos yesterday (fighter pilot vs tanker pilot) and they are great. Brilliant
There’s a lot of risk factors in this Aircraft so you have to be on the top of what you are doing and jumping out on too the ramp is still a dangerous way to getting hurt very fast
Go change your tampon. He’s been doing it for decades and there’s risk in every single thing of life.
swiss001 was there
WOW
How good of a pilot you have to be to fly this bad.
You have to be really good to fly that bad.
Nice!!
awesome hard enough to act drunk let alone add an airplane
Jenith plane?
I'm trying to picture tower telling him which color dot to land on....
Haha
i swear i saw a woman in the audience pass out.
It was good of him to return the plane, a nasty drunk would have gone straight home and left her in the street 😀👍🙏🇬🇧😎
I thought Bob Hoover was a great airman
What does he pull from his seat and throw out?
Plastic water bottle in a brown bag. Made to look like an adult beverage
🇺🇸
me in msfs
Haha
Wait, it was scripted? 😂😂
Maybe it looks funny for the audience...
Maybe it does indeed
Yay I’m the 1000th liker lol
Didn't he lose his wife during acrobatics 10 years ago?
Yes. Amanda.
Great flying.. But the gag doesn't impress me at all... Best part is seeing Liz..
