  • In this video I share with you my method for creating a loose watercolour sketch of a narrow shadowy lane with lots of texture and contrast. I do use some frown-inducing techniques in this one, but stick with it, it all works out in the end! This sketch is achievable even for beginners, so if you’d like to have a go, the reference photo and all the materials you will need are included in the video and listed below.

    This is great! You were fearless putting all that colour on, and with the pen, that really worked! Loving this new style, and it’s so freeing!

      Thank you 😊 Yes with this kind of method I’m finding you do have to just go wild then find out later if it worked. It’s very confusing to work this way, but I’m liking it so far. Lots to learn and improve on though. Hopefully others might be inspired to let loose 😀. Cheers, Donald.

    Continue a expressar-se livremente. A arte só acontece quando á liberdade. É a expressão de uma emoção num momento único que não se volta a repetir. E o que está a fazer é Arte. Obrigado.

      Thank you very much 😊 Kind words. I have translated this into English and it says:
      Continue to express yourself freely. Art only happens when you get free. It is the expression of an emotion in a unique moment that is not repeated. And what you're doing is Art. Thank You.

    im impressed how well this came out. for a bit there i was having serious doubts

      @UrbanSketchy  Před 2 lety +1

      Not as serious as the doubts I was having 😅 I always encourage others not to judge a sketch until it’s finished, it might look awful half way through but by the end it’s turned out fine. Especially true for an experimental approach like this. Thanks for watching 🙂

    Very nice sketch, you nailed the loose look. You should try this same technique with a fude nib fountain pen. Thanks for the video

      That’s so funny, I’ve literally just been on a pen site looking at fude nib pens! Disposable pens are very wasteful so I have been thinking of moving to fountain pens, never drawn with one so I’m intrigued to see what it’s like. Thank you for the suggestion and feedback. Donald.

      @@UrbanSketchy I love my Sailor Fude pens, inexpensive and very versatile once you get the hang of them.

      Oh that’s interesting, Sailor fude was the one I was looking at. They look like they’d be tricky to master, but I’m intrigued. Cheers.

    Really enjoyed watching this Donald. I do struggle with watercolour, I just want to do traditional landscapes, but really struggle with getting the same effect more than once. I also love this extreme lose urban sketching style but just cannot do it myself. That doesn’t mean I cannot enjoy watching it or appreciating the finished result. Many thanks for sharing this and I look forward to seeing more🙏

    • @UrbanSketchy
      @UrbanSketchy  Před 2 lety +1

      I know exactly what you mean, up until now I’ve struggled with how unpredictable watercolour is. That’s why I got into brush pens, I knew what they were going to do every time. For me it just feels the right time to embrace paint and scribbles and see where it goes. No doubt in a couple of weeks I’ll have shredded my watercolour sketchbook and be back on the pens again 😅 Thanks for watching as always.

      @@UrbanSketchy don’t do that lol. Keep this as well as your wonky brush pen pictures. This style will pull in more ink and wash urban sketch viewers which can only be a good thing for your channel going forward.

      @UrbanSketchy  Před 2 lety +1

      That’s true, it might do. Thanks.

      Well, if you feel you can not do this style yourself, do you know what would be best? Give it a shot, with no expectations. Take a virgin sheet of paper to the altar or watercolour and sacrifice it. But expect nothing. If the result won't impress you, at least you have got the thing out of the system and move on with whatever you fell like doing.
      As for not getting the same effect more than once, I totally see what you mean. :D I'm in that pit, too. But I don't let that bother me. Each piece is unique. It is supposed to be so. But it is also true that I do not aim to sell my paintings. My aim is just to enjoy the process and embrace the results.

    • @grahamthompson2022
      @grahamthompson2022 Před 2 lety +1

      @@monikozi totally agree with what you are saying. ‘Not being able to do it’ is just my own personal hang up. I don’t know why I feel this way, I just do and it is very frustrating 🤣🤣🤣. I am just not a ‘let go and see what happens’ person and maybe watercolour is just not for me. I get better results using watercolour pencils than paint. I appreciate your feedback though and wish you success in your painting🙏
