I’ve been a wilderness rescue medic for 40 years. I can tell you from experience that ambulances suck off road. To the point that we specifically have to tell the ambulance drivers not to leave pavement, we will come to them.
@@SirBoDen Those type of ambulance are too big, very little options to turn around, rough riding too.

I did all the maintance on a fleet of Ford ambulaces in the 80s, the best thing that ever happened was switching from 460 gas to the 7.3 lited diasels. One thing to be aware is engine hours are double the milage and we went from 4 MPG to 12 MPG with the diasels. Those equipped with turbos were super stout. I would buy that little mini pumper in a heartbeat if I could still drive a straight shift.
The hambulance would make a decent camper van. Lightened up for all the useless things and kitted up, painted. Would make someone happy.

Ignition switch on that Tan Ford is on the top of the column (electric sw.) The lid is coming off and can be Peened back on with a small hammer. Two little Tabs are loose.

Sorry to hear about your friend, that's a nice little collection of Fords am loving the sun roof. I suppose if it was raining all the time you could stick a sheet of perspex on top of the cab. 👍🤣😂🤗
Awesome find! The old IDI 6.9L diesel was truly a king for Ford engines. The 4x4 ambulance is definitely a Gold find in today's market. 😮

a certain Capt might be in need of one of those cabs, front clips. might even be able sweeten the deal; the whole truck if he comes and gets it. that 4x4 ambulance would be a cool pit truck for the boys at the track. Ive seen a couple of them converted to All in one snow removal operations.
I wore out a few of those engines on the farm back in the day. They were OK, in that time period.

Manual windows, manual shift. Just those two things bring back so many memories of days gone past. Days of vinyl seats that got hot in the sun during June and July. Slip on into the car wearing shorts. Scald off a few inches of skin from the backs of your legs. Forget that shiny chrome tab of your seatbelt might as well be glowing it's so hot. Brand yourself on the side right a hip level.
Thinking of those vinyl seats, you dared not armor all them unless you enjoyed sliding off them like water sheets of rainx.
All of those pieces look like they'll be fine gems for someone that scores them off the lot.

I daily an 86 6.9idi. Watch that water separator on the firewall driver side. Air likes to get in if it hasn't been bypassed.
Now you do not see too many Traffic Circles in the U.S. being from the U.K. I guess they are not as common as in Europe, the first one I saw on your side of the pond was in Florida, at St Petes.

Door buzzer came on and took me back in time to my grandfather’s 86 ford truck!!!
Ignition switch tip. After pulling shroud off column. Take a 6 to 8" , 1/4 flat blade screwdriver and a small hammer. Put a dent in the outside head of the tamperproof screws. Then change the angle of the screwdriver to knock the screw loose. Use needle nose pliers to unscrew them. Second hint. The hf 20 degree offset long nose pliers. 7/16" from the tip make a small chainsaw file depression like this. ( ) you will be amazed at how handy those pliers become.
I had bought a 3/4 ton in 1985 with the International 6.9....Great truck no issues,good fuel milage.
So the 6.9 is an international motor too??

Those miles on that engine would be valid. Most tend to have higher hours (think scene idling and pump operations) and lower miles as they don't roll often and tend to age out before wearing out. Great video!

I have seen that external roll cage type effect done on some railroad maintenance pick up trucks. Without it the trucks just get torn up very quickly.

This brings back memories of my first days in EMS. Those 6.9IDI’s were TURDS! I’d always check the rear view mirrors to see if I was tied off to something. Never seemed to gain speed unless going downhill. 7.3IDI wasn’t much better. The electrical system was severely overloaded as well. Always needed a shoreline umbilical cord at the hospital or they wouldn’t start. Turned me off until I drove a Dodge Cummins! Emergency vehicles have come a long way.
So either you were helping an old lady after her husband past or you got a steaming deal on this pile of American steel or both!

Sounds just like my 1986 F350 stake bed duly with the Harvester in it. 4 on the floor. coming back from Mexico after a restoration cutting the rust out with just over 110,000 miles.
re-equip the brushtruck to fight fires again, then sell to a rual fire departmet they are always looking for equipment. turn the ambulace in to a tool truck that follows your 18-wheeler to repair it on the go and not pay a roadside mechanic to come out.
My dad had the 6.9 I don’t remember the year it had a granny four-speed with 410 rear gears and that thing would get 18 miles per gallon running empty on the highway at 65 to 70 mph while on downstream and tight geared so low that all you needed was third and fourth gear

I need the transfer case and front axle out of that 4x4 ambulance, put in my 95 E350-7.3 diesel. Mine was an ambulance, and now has a 8x12 flat-bed, with 42,000 original miles.
