    Thanks for the thorough testing. Unfortunately, as I suspected, the end results to my eye clearly show "no filter" as the winner. The addition of ND filters seemed only to add reflections, color dullness, and slight hue shift. Given that the Hover has no manual camera controls, an ND filter is not really a useable tool. They are best used when manually selecting a desired ISO and aperture, forcing the shutter speed to lower based on the strength of the filter and providing measured motion blur. Since the Hover has no manual camera parameters, its automatic adjustments are just going to increase the ISO to compensate, decreasing picture quality. The CPL filter would plausibly be useful to reduce reflections from water or other similar surfaces, but in your test environment I saw only the addition of reflections between the camera lens and the filter. I do thank you for the experiment, though!

      Yes same conclusion as I made, CPL will come in handy for the rubbish weather and rain I think. correctly said with no manual ISO and shutter the auto brightness keeps on compensating for the ND8/16 which is a shame as this could really help out. Never say never Hover may put out an update for the camera settings given us manual controls ! The CPL for me when not in the sun does make the image a little more smoother and takes out that harsh sharpness. Still good fun flying the HoverAir X1 :) any excuse to get it out.

    thanks for the testing, however seems to degrade images with all but the CPL - must alter the internal white balancs some how or either massive thumb prints were left on the ND16 - nevertheless, thanks for the excellent effort!

    As for me, no ND filter is better. Thanx for the video tho! Cheers!

    The first and only video that I've seen with someone adding filters...was great. Could you link the wireless mics you're using. Thanks. Great video

      Thanks - pretty much any wireless mics work via the phone anyway but my list of working fine are - Realacart Mi 1 /DJI Mic / Alovon Wireless mics are my current choice as sound is excellent for the price - 1 Rec 2 x Wireless Mic's works with and comes with iOS cable and USB C cables for £37 - www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BTPH4BP4?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

      @@englishcyclist Thanks for the reply. One last question. Is this drone capable of shooting a scenic shot without the operator in it. ie, fly up and take a shot of a lake or mountain, or pan around.

    • @englishcyclist
      @englishcyclist  Před 7 měsíci +1

      it can be controlled manually via the App - basic, but you ask a good question about the modes without tracking there! I know if I was to set the HoverAir into orbit or zoom in out, if I dived out of the shot real quick it would still do its thing. in fact I did that on my Stanage Video a few weeks back czcams.com/video/J4yl3Gxz01k/video.htmlsi=5nKGdUiSUy3anhQ1

    I guess the mounting is not light leak free, so you got some reflections inside the glass on the lens. But I like the little "washed out" look with the CPL whilst keeping the colours. More testing needed :D

      It all hinges on if the Hover X1 App get's an update to let us manual control the camera ISO/WB and so on, the ND's will work so much better then! Auto just shifts the image brightness ISO up and resulting in a rubbish image! the CPL I think could give better quality in overcast day's... more testing :)

    I liked the video. Thanks for doing the comparison. I thought of all of the versions that you tried, the native HoverAir X1 lens did the best.
    Regarding audio, I did my research and money wasn’t part of the barrier…I wanted the best wireless mic. I ended up purchasing the DJI Wireless one and am happy with it. So Tom, without discussing the value proposition, what in your opinion is the best wireless mic these days?

    This question is not on the filters, but using the orbit mode. When you launch the drone and it gets into its orbit rotation, if you move around just a few steps, does the drone compensate for that shifting of the human subject it is circling?
    Thanks for the video on using filters.

    • @englishcyclist
      @englishcyclist  Před 8 měsíci

      do not think it does, it will continue in the path already set - unlike say a DJI quick shot orbit that does track

    I like the no-filter but maybe add a shade on top of the lens for the sunlight, if possible.

    • @englishcyclist
      @englishcyclist  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Not a bad idea ! could add a shade from the top of the body and not interfere with the gimbal then.
