Air Vs Coil pt 1 on the Reign \\ Fox Float X vs marzocchi Bomber CR

- To be fair I think the air shock was running a couple psi above optimal, likely due to the heat on the trail vs the temp at home when I set the pressure. So that wasn’t necessarily the best representation of the air shocks performance. Just things you have to deal with when you have air sprung suspension

Nice vid Telly..
I wènt back n forth for nearly a year with my 2022 float x Elite and couldn't get a good setup , until I changed the compression tune from light to medium , then it changed completely, gave me a platform n support in the middle of the stroke, stopped it bowing thru n wallowing I n out of travel , best thing I did, that was 3 months ago since tune, I still play around a bit depending on type of trail,
For steeper dh trails I go
LSC 3 clicks from open
Rebound 5 clicks from slow
Sag 31-32 %
175 psi ish
0.3 or 0.4 token
For general trail riding
LSC 4 clicks descending , 5-6 climbing
6 clicks of rebound
0.5 token
195-200 psi
28% sag
I'm 80kg fully loaded
77 dry
Bike is a 2022 Canyon Spectral 27.5 CF8 in medium
Great video. Your fitness is on point too. I certainly couldn't chat while hauling down a trail like that. Nice work!
Nice vid bro. I loved the Bomber CR on my Banshee Rune with a Z1 coil up front.
But after the compression damping blew for the third time , they sent me a Factory Float X & I haven't been disappointed. Also scored a Factory 36 I was going to swap the Grip 2 damper into the Z1, but ended up running it pared with the Float X.
I'd still love to go back to all coil though.
That standard bomber comp tune is quite strong so I’m not too surprised about blowing the dampers. I’ve always had them changed to a light comp tune and been good. Real harsh at speed with the mid tune, putting too much stress on the damper
@@mtbtelly5522 Maybe I should pick up another one & get it tuned properly.
I am quite liking the wait saving of the air shock & fork though.
@@johnbown3119 i wouldn’t even hesitate. Only annoyance is getting to the rebound know when finding your setup. But once you’re set you’re good. How much do you weigh dressed to ride?
@@mtbtelly5522 I'm about 87kg ready to ride. I started with a 450 coil, but went up to the 475 Fox coil which I found just right.
@@johnbown3119 sweet, you’re ready to roll
Great video mate.
I've just got the 2023 Advanced pro and instantly out of the box the Fox X2 is squelching, I'm not even going to mess with it, I'll get it warrantied and sell it.
I have a new super deluxe RC2T or an ohlins ttx22m.2 I can use in its place, probably going with the Rockshox, can't wait to get out on it, hopefully it will have a better pedaling platform than my current bike (Cannondale jekyll 2022)
That will be killer with the Superdeluxe. Those x2 are killer but reliability is almost non existent. They are using better seals to remedy the issue but its still super annoying
Great video. How much rear travel does your Reign have? 146mm or 160mm?
I'm planning to put 205x65 coil shock instead of 205x60 in 2021 Reign to gain some more travel. And hoping i will have enough clearance 😅
Thanks mate. My Reign is 160 rear
Hi! Reign can work quite well coil, but it was designed for air shock. Try with more volume spacers and drop pressure on standard can. I was riding reign even with progressive can like megneg but i liked it more with standard can, bike feels more lively and poppy.
Is that about the lightest coil shock you can get, the bomber with a super light spring? My float x2 weighs in the same as that
Yeah I’d say so
If you had a choice would you get a second hand ohlins ttx2 or a new SDU with linear can for the banshee.
The ttx2 is off a moodraker foxy.
I’d go the superdeluxe with progressive can for sure, now that I’ve spent a heap of time on the different setups
@@mtbtelly5522 I thought you said linear can in a previous clip, because the banshee was progressive enough.
Your looking at home on that thing dude🏌️♂️
