Intersection Marking Tool Tutorial - Cities Skylines

- The "Intersection Marking Tool" mod for Cities: Skylines allows players to add definition and beauty to conspicuously blank intersections. No props or decals required. Configurations can be copied and saved as templates. Lines also remain if the intersection is edited or moved with "Move It". This can turn an empty ambiguous space into something clean and defined.

This, and Node Controller are perfect examples of how a Mod can cause you to spend hours working on the smallest things.
exactly why I had to unsubscribe. it's such a satisfying mod but I get too addicted to doing it
Going to have to start a whole new city build to add this and a few other new awesome mods. Going back through my current one could take a year, lol.
This is why you have to learn, know, bind every single hotkey not only for the mods but also the vanilla C:S UI to just speedrun it like an RTS in competitive multiplayer (e.g. Age of Empires IV) to shorten the time it takes to do a standard intersection in order to MARK MORE INTERSECTIONS.
but it does look really good when done right tho ;$
@@worlwr2 maximum APM lol. Cities: Skylines StarCraft 2 pro league.
Cities: Skylines Mods be like: By Perfectionists, For Perfectionists.
It’s beautiful!
More like ADHD, paranoia, perfectionism and throwing shit across the room.
I’ve never used this mod, but now I feel like I have to. Intersections look soooo much better after using this mod. Thanks for the tutorial!
Have fun! :)
I remember how we used to do all this stuff manually with decals. Was plenty fun but really frustrating after like 5-10 junctions done.
This mod has always been a mystery to me. I have had it in my mods list for months and didn't know how use it. Thank you for making mistakes and showing how to make it right. I appreciate it.
Glad to help!
Biffa uses UnifiedUI which collects a couple of different mods UI Buttons into one single button (Node Controller, Intersection Marking Tool and - i believe - Pedestrian Bridge Builder or Roundabout Builder)
Thanks for the tip!
I literally found you the other day and you instantly became my no.1 in regards to Cities tutorials. Great stuff, hoping for more of these. Those small bits and pieces make up for a huge difference in visuals :)
Thanks a lot :)
Props to those mod makers. The math for all those lines, especially the intersections and fillers, is not exactly simple, especially to have it all be dynamic. Super impressive work.
Splines. Gods bless splines.
Intersection Marking should've been in the vanilla game.
Good video man, clear instructions not to munch information just the right amount to get started and straight to the point. On 24:40 you can click mirror so your copied section gets a 180° flip👌 keep up the good work💪
Thank you very much! :)
I came into this thinking I already knew everything about Intersection Marking Tool, just hoping for some handy YUMBL tips. Then I had a lightbulb moment on the offramp example when you mentioned that creating a line makes the filler follow that line instead of cut across. It had never occurred to me that that was what caused my major annoyance with IMT. Thank you so much!
I’m glad this helped! :)
Remember when we had to place individual decals
Hell is real, and it looks like a thousand little lines. Oh, and you want to change that intersection? Glhf 😂
This mod is amazing for realism detailing. Exactly what a lot of people look for. Thank you for the showcase!
Also, i'm not sure why, but as soon as you placed the chevron at 23:37 I got super excited and giggled like a schoolgirl from glee and satisfaction lol
To make it invisible, you can also just delete the rules from a line. The line will stay (for the rest to use as reference) but the markings will disappear. :)
Great tip, thank you!
it pained me physically to do it the way he did it
Dude!!! With my OCD I'm now going to spend my life redrawing intersection markings. Such nerdy bliss
Brilliant! I noticed how you answered questions in the video as they were popping into my head. :D THose highway ramp areas look really good after some marking care.
I’m glad you liked it! I intentionally did the intersection on the fly so I wouldn’t miss any talking points. Always a teeny bit of trial and error.
I did not know you can change the start and end points of lines. Literally game-changer for beautiful junctions.
Such a good looking and well programmed mod. Also, you have great teacher qualities. Thanks a lot!
Thank you very much! :)
I've been meaning to get intersection marking tool for a while now. This is gonna be a great help for getting me started.
Its now one of my favorite mods. Enjoy!
i use this mod alot but never understood how to create fillers in the middle of roads like that. now i know. thank you Mr Yumbl Sir
What a powerful tool. Not a single function that one can imagine is missing! Going to get it right now!
I'm in love with this mod this is absolute genius
Thanks for the tutorials on the mods, have been binging them this morning and subbed. Newer to a modded Cities Skylines and there's plenty of stuff out there on what are the best mods but not too much on how to use them.
I’m glad to help! Let me know what you need help with. I probably have a video on it 😂
Will gladly study this, when I build my new PC and re-installed the game. Planning to use this for my next city.
Finally got to see how a median is made without using the filler tool!! I never knew about using the rules this way. Thanks dude
This is easily the best tutorial on this mode! Thanks a lot!
This is great, thanks. Regarding your working without notes, it's actually much more relatable for me. Watching people do things quickly and perfectly in a tutorial makes them go by too fast, and it makes our early attempts to learn the content seem pitifully far from the artificial perfection seen in a error-free, fast, planned out tutorial. Also teaches out how troubleshoot when we see the presenter troubleshoot on the fly.
Thank you! :)
i just got back to the game and managing all the traffic alone is very captivating... but seeing this and some other videos of you, i already know im gonna spend more time on a single street crossing or intersection than on a full game which come out nowadays... 🤣
your videos are just great!👌
Been using this mod for a couple of months now and I never knew that you can do fillers! No more manually placing lines to hatch off areas using PLT! Horay!
I’m glad the video helped! Get node controller too for some real control over your intersections. Thanks for watching!
learned just today this exist lmao . i always manually place whitelines + propline tool . this is a less time consuming . thank you
Quality content. Been getting back into the game and looked up some videos and found this gem of a channel
Welcome in :)
Yumbl, I have to say your videos are truly interesting and detailed really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work liked and subscribed!
Amazing video. I already knew about this mod but still watched your video. You have a great voice to listen to and the way your content is made makes it easy to watch.
Subbed!
Thank you so much :)
Hey man, thank you so much for your tutorials on this and node manager, complete and very clear that's great stuff, helped me a ton!
Glad to hear it! :)
Thanks man! You explain like a teacher, thumbs up!
This was at once informative and hilarious ^^
Thank you.... Finally... a tutorial without a youtuber that thinks we already know this but you my man know we have no idea how to use. Thanks man. I watched enough of your videos to know that it's time to sub
Thank you very much! :)
@@YUMBL Your welcome!
Tip:when u paste the preset and it doesn't match u should try rotating AND inverting it will always work u don't need to copy from another intersection
Now this one helped me to understand how to cut out thosee unnwannted lines. Great tut!
Great video from where I got inspired to improve my crossroads. Your tutorials are really nice to watch!
PS: "Node controller" mod has been updated just few hours ago and the layout is different than your video, anyway still pretty easy to use thanks your tutorial
Thank you for being here :)
No shame, I actuality cried with excitement over this mod watching you do this
In the U.S,, the crosshatch lines should be sloped in the direction of the major flow of traffic. This tip helps me remember when to use chevrons and which way to slope them.
Banger after banger!
Only the hits 😂
Really good tutorial thanks for putting it together, will defo be copying this
I’m glad you liked it! Thank you for watching :)
Thank you so much! That helps a lot!
3:19 you can use the shortcuts: ctrl L for node controller & ctrl N for intersection marking tool
I dunno if anyone commented about it, but the copy and paste at the end worked, you just needed to invert the direction
Excellent! Keep the educational videos coming.
Will do, thanks for watching!
You are so underrated :D
This was so helpful
Thanks a lot! :)
Love the videos man keep it up 👍🏻
Thanks for watching! :)
Regarding 8:10, there is a more refined/controlled way to adjust points, you can hover your cursor over the text entry field in the UI and scroll your mouse wheel (holding CTRL for fine adjustment)
Guys in Intersection Marking Tool 1.8.2 i don't have pavement options for my intersections.. i just have "Stripes" - "Grid" - "Solid" and "Chevron" .. i missing Pavement and Grass in option, is there some additional mod/asset which i need to get for that?
I love your assets
You can install unified UI that will put some mods there, its a button that opens up like a closet for your mods
Node controller and intersection marking tool it works.
This so helpful, thank you
Weirdly when I'm out driving tomorrow I'll be looking downwards at the line-markings!!
Amazing, thanks for all
Some of the cool mods I see on internet, does not load into my game. I try to always have all dependencies and all, but is there something I should be checking firstly?
Awesome, thanks you a lot!
Underrated!!
Two things: in the US, the chevrons always point towards the point, including for merges: mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/services/publications/fhwaop02090/fwymarkings_lgview.htm
More importantly, you may have discovered this since making this video, but the paste tool has an "invert" button, which would have allowed you to paste the offramp markings to the onramp markings. HUGE time saver! Hope that helps, and great video!
Very interesting! I’m seeing conflicting information on the direction of the chevrons, but perhaps there are regional differences in each area’s DOT. Or i’m open to being wrong, but I need to be sure 😂. Thank you very much for watching! I’m learning all the time.
@@YUMBL oh interesting. Sorry for being forward. I was worried about coming off as an asshole lol - I looked it up since you suggested to, and happened to notice this source was different.
No worries at all! :)
@@mattdeady6448 different areas use different markings. I've seen chevrons in both directions, diagonal lines, even diamond patterns. I think it really depends on what pattern they feel makes more sense in that area.
The diagonal likes are usually when lanes are passing each other. My understanding is cars go toward where the line is pointing on their side. Like pushing open the swinging door to a saloon :)
Why is this version of node controller causing an issue with the harmony dependency mod?
Hey maybe you can help me, when it comes to the Node Controller, the mod doesnt give me the option to remove the zebra crosswalks (is that the englisch name for them? :P ) Do you know any solutions foir that? Ive tried other spotzs but still no marking option here ... :(
Is there an updated guide? I can't do any of the complex things like clipping the line segments so that the markings don't overlap with crosswalks for example. I think the latest version works significantly different and the dev of course provides no guides themselves.
😮 amazing video
Man I left Cities Slylines for a year and now I’m finding out that I don’t have to place props for lines any more? Man things have changed
Its honestly better than ever :)
Right? Same thing here. I never went the extra mile on details because of that
Fantastic, I tried marking tool to detail freeway exits and it looks terrific. So strange its hidden by having to go into transportation to find it.
I think its hidden in transit roads because I have “crossings” and “zoning toggle” in the space it would normally occupy. Amazing mod though!
i would suggest doing with then step instead of step then width cause width also changes the blank space.
great. thanks!
Awesome thanks!
How do you get dark roads?
Found it thanks!!!
Thank you!
You r just awesome nice guy, I love your contents
Thank you :)
Hello! I couldn't but help notice you have an asset for a zoneable 2 lane rd with parking with a bike lane on the inside? I've looked through your favorited assets & roads in the workshop but was unable to find them. Could you make a list of favorite road packs that use bike lanes? Thank you
It’s beautiful. Enjoy! steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2098106761
@@YUMBL Thanks for the reply! You just earned yourself a subscriber. Thanks to you I also just subscribed to the intersection marking tool. I cannot believe I never found that sooner. That and the loading screen mod. So many amazing community workshop items.
Can you link style road?
I've created so many Presets for every possible lane configuration.
One thing i do to help me with rotation is to always color my most left hand lane with a solid yellow line.
I knew there was more to this tool. Is there a way to add one of those colored dots? I've done 5L highway into two 3L highway roads and I want to add a little pointed line to split the middle lane. I use the USRP Interstate highways mod for my freeways and highways.
Do you mean chevrons? I do some at the end of the video
I have been using this mod for a little while now, but am struggling with one thing. I have been matching colors like you did in the video with the bike lane filler. Do you know of any mod or something that has a color picker (eyedropper tool) that you can click on something and get the exact numbers to match a color? I have been searching but can not find such a tool.
You could take a screenshot and use any number of online pickers or ms paint. I prefer to just eyeball it though as even a pucker wont work well.
Oh no you didn't...
Just had to laugh when you said "In the real world, an intersection just doesn't look like this(referring to old style intersection)". Not a slam on you, 😉I enjoy all your work. Thanks for the chuckle YUMBL and please keep up with all your work.
I'm using the updated node controller but it does not have the 'no junction marking' option. Do you know if there is a separate setting for that?
Its linked in the node controller description. “Remove crossings”
TY for show me this mod its awesome
You’re welcome!
Does this mod still work with the recent update?
Being from Australia, how can I create a stop line and broken lines for a roundabout/give way (yield)
Just connect the dots on the same side.
How does one redraw lines that are not inside of a junction? I’m
Looking to match up the road lines and colors on all segments. I removed all markings on roads highways using the road surface mod but it doesn’t appear to remove them from all roads.
Some networks may have a texture that cant be removed
Is there a way to use this tool underground? I have made a small cave entrance to a tunnel and the road stops the lines for about 100 feet. This is a key feature of my new Map, so I want to tweak it as much as possible. Thx.
You’ll probably have to sink the road before it tunnels.
The lines are super white but the vanilla road lines are sorta gray. How do you change the color of the line markings on vanilla roads? Thx in advance.
Road textures are built in
Thanks!
Thank you!
What mod is that in the bottom left corner that says Modes?
Probably fine road tool or fine road anarchy
Thank you 🤟🚕👍
how does he zoom in so close to the road
@YUMBLtv do you have a list of assets that you use? I notice that your roads are darker than mines, is that because you chose a different theme for your city or is it actually custom assets? Awesome video BTW!
I have a video called “dark roads” and my assets are linked in my about page
@@YUMBL thank you!
I am not seeing the "No junction markings" option in Node Controller. Is it because I have a newer version?
It requires “remove tmpe crosswalks” as a dependency.
17:20 cracked me up and earned a sub, lol
How do you get that color ( black )on your roads?
I have a video called “dark roads” that explains it
Hey YUMBL, which LUT or map textures are you using?
I use “theme mixer 2” so the map theme is blended. I currently use “relight averag” lut
Hi! How can you change the road color?
I have a video called “dark roads” that explains it
1:13 - I’m currently living in Egypt! And I can say yes there is a million intersections not detailed by lane markings… even if there was lane marking the drives of Egypt don’t know what they are 😂😂😂
This mod cured my anxiety and depression
8:50 How did you road so dark and bright?
What mods are you using cause I know Vanilla ain’t no where near this.
Also if you want your line to be invisible, simply just remove the rule.
I have a video called “dark roads” that explains it
What a mod! Damn!
