"Parking lots are not necessarily the most beautiful things in the world." - Far more beautiful than hundreds of cars parked on the side of the road.
This guy gets it!
I am using roads that don't let you park, or TMPE parking ban feature (:
also those who double-park
I actually like roadside parking. If it's done well at least. It can also be a good barrier between car and bike lanes.
Disagree tbh
Since this video was published, the fairly recent addition of the parking lot snapping tool mod has made the Parking Lot Roads my favorite option to use. The Node Controller Renewal mod also helps make the combinations look fantastic for most situations.
thisssss
Thank you so much. I always use the Parking lot roads but I didn't know that they count as buildings so I have never been able to fix them using move it 😭. This will save me lots of time.
You’re very welcome! I’m glad it helped :)
Every time i come back to this game i find a new mod that does what an old mod did but better and with more quality of life in it.
This game ages just like wine
It’s honestly so good.
Nice. I hate the sight of parking lots in real life, so in the game I usually just lay down a bunch of underground and above ground parking garages. But your layout shows me that there's some flexibility with the parking lots in this game; I can see how I could make my parking lots look better with these tips. For the regular parking lots, almost always put solar panels above them.
Yes! Parking lots are a tool, especially if you play with realistic parking turned on.
I know this is 6 months old but what underground parking assets did you use?
I’m not sure who made them, but its a road that corkscrews down underground. They didnt work very well imo
Wanted to say this channel has helped me loads when building my cities and making it fun again. (tmpe parking, no despawning, realistic pop, etc)
So thanks! Hope to see more form you in the future
Thank you very much! You certainly will :)
Hey, been catching up on your recent videos. They're really high quality, nice work!
I appreciate that a lot, Thank you!
@@YUMBL Thanks for great content u got a sub
Thanks a lot! :)
Did you mention to mark the eco lots "historical" to prevent Thema from changing later?
BPL comes with nice features like grass textures and curbs between parking spots. Add some plants and it becomes both effektive and beautiful.
Thanks for confirming that realistic parking reduces pocket cars. Desperately needed that
A much needed video for explanations of the parking lots! Thanks for the depth and tips!
Always! Thanks for watching :)
The thumbnail caught my attention and stayed for the parking garages
The King! Always glad to name drop you and your assets. Thanks for making the good stuff!
I feel illuminated by all the tips in this video, thanks!
Glad you liked it! :)
@@YUMBL how do I plop down commercial buldings?
Use “find it” and “ploppable rico revisited”.
@@YUMBL Thanks!
You actually taught me some new things with the move it mod. Even though I have used it for years now :D.
Thanks for that. Great video on parking lots, I usually use the DIY parking lots, it was pain to get them to line up but now you mentioned that rotate tool in move it will be a dream doing it.
Enjoy! :)
Glad I found your channel. So polished!
Thanks for adding EVEN MORE items to my Workshop shopping list... I am addicted.
Enjoy! :)
I'll have to check out the other parking available on the workshop. I've been using primarily parking lot roads but the others seem nice as well.
I did learn one thing new - the align to center using Move It. Very cool. That should make thing a lot easier going forward.
Move it is key! Rotating, aligning, etc. its so good :)
If you're trying to build a realistic American city. The sprawling kind. You'll get avenues with miles of big box stores on either side. Also, I think there's a statistic that on average 2/3 to 3/4 of commercial lots are parking lot.
Also, for parking lot roads, I think there's a road type that looks like a typical two lane road but has space on either side to add diagonal parking, which I found looks good for downtown areas.
Totally plausible.
Thanks for this tutorial. I love how everyone that see this video , just learn about it and all love it and no one didn't like it
Thank you! Its kind of amazing actually 😂
Note: BIFA mentioned you, so because of that i found you (wish i did earlier) , i subbed and turned notification on, keep up the good work man!
The Edison hyper charger I believe also comes in a 2x4 option! :) (2 along road)
Nice! I didn’t see that one, but I’ll try to tell people moving forward. Thanks for watching!
Yes, it can come 2x4 and then the road-facing half is standard parking and the back square is electric. I saw a video where someone might have spawned a 2x3 on the background but I’ve never tried to see if it would happen.
The 2x2 only provides parking for electric cars but the 2x4 comes with the additional general purpose parking space!
The road through the parking garages are necessary to avoid cims visibly flying their cars to the spaces from the outside road. It actually happens with stock assets, just more noticeable with dedicated parking buildings.
How do you do that? I'm having so much trouble lol
@@AwesomeIsMyMotto turn off collision for a moment with road anarchy. you need to draw a small section of road where the entrance to the carpark is.
As a Noob to the PC Version of the game and have found your channel to be very helpful. Good concise communication is appreciated.
Good! I hope the videos help :)
I too greatly enjoy playing with Parking AI, really simulates city planning for a HD COM area. Well, I thought you were going to convince me which parking lot road mod is better, now I really can't decide ha ha. I agree with using PLR for smaller, dense shopping areas. While BigPLR offers more flexibility, as pointed out with that triangular design. Though now with recent mods, like Intersection marking tool and Node Controller, I am curious to experiment those combined with BigPLR. Hm, I think BigPLR may be a better choice. Thanks for dropping those tips on using Move it, especially holding alt while rotating! I am finding these videos to be quite advanced in the knowledge base, which is exactly what I am looking for. There are TONS of beginner and starting tutorials, but heavy modding with realism/realistic expectations seem to be few. Cheers :)
I’m glad you enjoy the videos :)
As always, your videos are much appreciated.
I had watched this one a couple of weeks ago.
I wanted to build a "big" parking lot now so came back for a refresher.
It looks great 😁😁
Right, finally I can use those big parking lots, thanks! Anyways, the Parking Lot Roads can snap really nicely with a mod, I believe it’s called Parking Lot Snapping or something like that.
Yep. That exists now :)
@@YUMBL Gosh that was a quick reply...
Another successful video of teaching me how to play the game and use the mods correctly. Str8 to the point, No worries!!
This man needs more subscribers... Time to spread the news
Thank you! 😂
I am one to appreciate the beauty of the sprawling retailer parking lot landscape.
After growing up in the US it becomes endearing :)
Thanks for pointing me to KingLeno. His workshop items are freaking amazing!
Virtually all my favorite buildings are by KingLeno :)
@@YUMBL I need a way to subscribe to all of them at once. lol
Love the background music!
Thanks! I may end up using more music in the future.
It would be great if some could build underground parking for large buildings, hotels, etc. Most realistic especially in an IT cluster
LOL, just as you were talking about setting up realistic parking a car pulled into an already occupied parking space.
A underground parking garage would be great too. I mean, like the Condo-buildings... just one to clip underneath.
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot!
This looks so good/realistic. It inspires me to put some parking lots on my bigger buildings. Then maybe ensure parking on the roads and play with traffic manager. So cool to see things being used
Thank you :)
I was finally able to get the Big lots parking lot to work by watching your video while doing it. I used it to make a parking lot for my Target store but haven't noticed yet if it is getting used. The pre-made lots I have gotten from the workshop show up as park assets and they get used almost immediately
Edit: once I added access roads at the bottom of the lot cars started to appear
Turn on “realistic parking” in traffic manager for the authentic parking experience ;)
I try to create underground parking, even under bridges (I don't like unused space).
I had spent hours creating underground parking below my Grand Boulevard, but after much frustration I stumbled upon an underground parking asset that spawned vehicles going in and out of it. ;-)
Actually, on the "Parking Lot Roads", the parking spaces DO snap. I have the mod and I love that they snap in place. Though, the snapping is not exactly perfect. They sometimes misalign when adding a bunch of spaces at once.
Check the date of this video vs when that was released ;)
Is there a way to turn off road names on your drive roads and parking lots but keep regular road names on?
Thanks for this. I tried the big parking lots but couldn't figure out how to use. This was very helpful.
You’re welcome! Have fun :)
This is very helpful. I have the parking lot roads mod and always struggle to make my lots look good/realistic especially when I try to place more than one parking lot section next to another (if that makes sense). The bigger parking lots mod might help me make the type of parking spots I need.
I hope it helps :)
Parkinglots and advanced parking AI (from the TMPE mod) = no more folks plopping their car right in front of the building they just left (trainstations etc.)
No more trafficjams because of this.
So it is REALLY helpfull to add parking around certain buildings/area's
I use the parking lot roads, but thank's to you, I made my first realistic highway on/off ramps in my city with the lanes. That node controller tool along with the road line tool is very useful
I’ve switched. I started using parking lot roads not long after this video.
Didn't realize this was an other video 😆
If you click on the parking lot at 17:00 and use the mirror function with move it, then click in the road at the end of the parking lot that is literally a midpoint the same way you clicked the road to center the parking spots, you can perfectly place the second set of parking spaces with no fidgeting at all. I actually like parking lots for the realism and aesthetic. ALSO, if you turn on PARKING AI, be careful because they don't just drive around endlessly if you are lacking for parking spaces but often become confused and stuck, blocking traffic while searching for parking. Another tips is if you're building a lot you can put down the 8x2 or other sets of spaces, then drag the end of the road to meet the end of spaces instead of trying to draw exact road length.
It would be nice if anyone can make parking lots underground, like a subway station that has both a ground building and the underground part. It would be even better if we can adjust the heights of the parking lots just like the subway overhaul system, which could also help build multiple floors of underground parking.
That would he great! There are underground parking lots in the workshop, but they aren’t great imo
Thanks for this tutorial! Very useful! Do you show in any video how to use the side parking version of the BIG parking lots? Now I've started watching yor Benton series and I am really enjoying it
Oh wow thank you so much I was wondering how to use these correctly
You’ve helped me a bunch :)
You’re welcome! :)
@@YUMBL wow man I’ve just checked and you have 7k subscribers
I’ve just watched most of your videos and the quality of your content is mint. Way better than biffa you go straight to the point
Keep up :) you should have at least 100k subs soon
Thanks a lot, and welcome! :)
Great info, you pay attention to instructional detail as well as you do building your game with detail.
Thank you :)
0:23 bottom right corner is a prime example of city skylines logic
Thanks for your videos, I keep learning things even thought I already knew enough lol. Is there a key combo for the rotate at center? I know you don't like key combos, me neither funny enough. But in this case of place - place - place, it could be useful.
Lovely video, YUMBL! I was struggling with placing a parking lot, using a different pack, now I'll use this. I am having the problem of zebra crossings that appear where I join the parking lot to the normal street, this is really grating me. I wish I knew how to remove individual zebra crossings.
Thank you! Traffic manager: president edition is the mod that can remove crosswalks. Theres another mod called “rm crossings” that works with traffic manager and removes them visually.
I would recommend never put these large parking spaces as seen on 1:10 in this video. Instead use parking garages.
There are several reasons:
- save lots of space
- parking lots look ugly
The large parking spaces also have the result less people walk or bike, so the people become more car-dependent which you never want.
The solution is:
- to use a parking garage near zoos, shopping center, big tourist spots
- bike and walk paths equal the amount of car roads
- create a huge public transport
- discourage all car traffic, so they won't use car and no parking lot, create a maze, convert through traffic in city centers into dead end streets, where only bikes and pedestrians can go through
=> create a Dutch city
But you’re avoiding why parking lots exist in the real world: parking garages are incredibly expensive. You’re either tunneling underground, building a heavy structure, or both! It would be unrealistically expensive for all cities to only keep cars in parking garages, and I think parking lots are quite common and a realistic sight when looking down from above on many cities. When I go to a shopping center they most likely have both, so I like to include both :)
Very very nice and clean.... I love your tutorials and designs
Thanks a lot!
Thank you! as a newb i really need this
I’m glad it helped, have fun!
just found out about your channel, love it!!
Thank you :)
I’d learn something about move it mod today. Thanks
Move it is excellent, Have fun!
Subscribed! Amazing content sir!
Why didn't I know about you 6 months ago so I could have been lazy and didn't have to figure all of this out for myself, you make really good tutorials.
But I would like to add a tip to the parking roads, you kinda sniffed on it. It works really well to place the parking spaces and then use move-it, select all in "one row" and then use the line up tool and then rotate to object and click a road and they will fit in perfectly. Then repeat that on each row of parking spaces you have built. :)
From my experience, “realistic parking” will work okay up to about 60k population and then it really slows your city down.
Agreed. Many thousands of additional calculations are required to run it.
It's not that I don't like parking lots. I do think that what's cool about a simulation is the opportunity to play with new ideas for designing cities in a sustainable way. The doctrinaire assertion that if you don't have miles and miles of parking your city isn't realistic simply reinforces all our current unsustainable practices.
Parking lots are a great option in a city. Almost as great an option as eliminating them. But the real beauty is that we each get to play however we want :)
Great video, easy to follow. I been trying to figure out parking lots so this was really helpful. Other than making the Realistic parking change in traffic manager are there other settings to change so that people actually park in the lots?
Thank you! Cars will park in the spots in smaller numbers without “realistic parking” turned on, but thats the only setting i use to influence it. Nearby destinations are important of course so make sure there are homes or businesses nearby. Also, don’t forget to check the “traffic view” to see if demand is being met.
@@YUMBL will do, thanks!
Great video, love the content. I’m wondering about something - you said near the end that some of your roads are from Network Extensions 2, but I’ve heard that mod can cause lots of issues with other mods. How well does it work for you? Would you recommend using it?
It works fine for me. Never had a problem personally. They do take up a lot of space though.
No dislikes wow. This is awesome!
Thank you :)
0:28 the car just drove through grass lol
Being able to make custom parking garages would be really cool.
Great work, man! Found your channel today, and still going through all the videos. I was curious, though, is there any way to see all your mods? My Cities mods are mostly breaking my game in some ways, probably because of compatibility problems. Thanks in advance, keep up the great work!
Thank you very much! Enjoy :) tinyurl.com/y4u7lcnn
@@YUMBL Thanks man, really appreciate it!
Nicely done. I am very rudimentary with creating parking spaces. This will give me more options. BTW, if you have a PC tutorial for roads that I can use to keep my buildings from having parking or driveways cars seem to drive up an invisible road to park would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
Thank you! I agree with you about the way cars path to parking. Unfortunately there is no solution that I’m aware of. Check out any elevated parking to observe its brokeness (ie a parking garage)
You mean we don't fly into parking garages IRL? Ya, unfortunately that's a CS issue that has no fix to this date. Maybe one day. For now, flying cars! ;)
@@creationsbyhelen lol. I've figured out a solution to handle this problem so when it happens I can fix it. Now back to my traffic issues. lol
Biffa has new competition
;)
THEY FINALLY ADDED IT
You don't have to worry about the space alignment. They snap now, so there is no reason to use move-it to line the spaces up. The second tool is a breeze to use, and is a lot easier then the BIG Parking tool... I use both. It depends on the layout. King Leno is nice, but his assets have gotten so damn fragmented that in order to have one item (like a parking garage), you need to subscribe to a bunch of nested items (usually 2-3 layers deep). I understand he likes to make his "parts" available as separate download, but as a convenience to the subscriber, he needs to encapsulate everything an item needs so you don't have to chase so many dependencies.. just my opinion. I hate clutter in my mods listing. Plus, if his items are using dependencies from other content providers, then you run the risk of the whole item breaking because of ONE content provider that abandoned development and updates on his workshop part.
I think this video is 9 mos old. I assure you, parking lot snapping was not out yet.
@@YUMBL So what's your take now that it does have snapping? Curious if it's changed your usage any.
Funny thing, I dont use parking lot roads much anymore. I used a version of it for main street in Newmarket. Finished it just before the mod came out. I think the mod will make parking lot roads more accessible to everyone which is good.
Hey I've really liked your content recently, but I was wondering if there is a way to create curved parking and/or angled parking lots, aka the spot is not a 90 degree turn its more like 45.
You can curve the roads but you’ll have to find a way to place the individual non curving spaces. Angled parking assets are available for parking lot roads.
This was helpful. Thanks!
There is a mod called ParkingLotSnapping
that I have installed that snaps the parking spaces to the old fashion parking lot roads. Looks like it only came up in the workshop in September though, too bad it wasn't out sooner!
Agreed, it’s great :)
You popped up in the recommendations on a Biffa Video and I love your content, just wait a sec... *clicks* there, subscribed.
Do you have a Steam list/collection with your mods that you use in-game that we can use?
Thank you! And welcome :)
Link to my workshop is in my about page
There is a mod called 'parking lot snapping' that aligns and snaps the parking spaces for parking lot roads.
There is! That exists now.
@@YUMBL Your the guy Yumbl, tell me - is it even worth using Big Barking Lots anymore or should I just use the old roads with the new snapping? Im thinking Big Parking Lots would be good for something like a stadium but is it even worth the asset size you think?
For the parking lot roads, there is a mod to allow the parking spaces to snap. I don't remember the name of it, but City Planner Plays uses it
“Parking lot snapping” wasn’t made until after this video came out
@@YUMBL ah, gotcha. Have you tried it then? For the most part, I find it pretty good.
Its very good :)
@@YUMBL I love seeing all the mods you have. I wish my PC could run them, but I'm pretty sure I need to upgrade my RAM before it can handle it all
Mods dont really use ram. Assets do though.
My man had the sim city 4 music in the mix. Props to you man.
Don't know if somebody already mentioned it but there is a snapping mod for Parking Lot Roads in the workshop
Parking lot snapping fixes the issue with the parking lot roads
I'm curious as to what happens if you lay down the filler roads without leaving space for the parking spots. Will vehicles drive everywhere, or still follow invisible lanes? I'm wanting to make warehouses and factories more realistic by having actual unloading areas behind them. These are typically just open patches of asphalt, which makes parking lot roads perfect for laying them out. It's easy enough to move the spawn points to get truck to go where I want. It's mostly a matter of what route they follow to get there.
Thank you!
As a European, this many parking lots, just hurts my eyes.
nice video. btw the vanilla parking you show isn't actually a parking lot. those are car chargers for the electric car since organic area avoids using oil-based car and prefer electric car.
I believe I say they are chargers several times. Thank you for watching!
i misheard then :D
great video and mod
Thank you!
Why is it necessary to build so much parking, streets and cars? Will the game work too, if I would build a lot of parks (you know the green thing), and only a minimum amount of cars and parking? Instead public transport, trams, train and so on? This game looks like a lot of fun, but not with a car centered city. What do you think?
This is just for people who WANT to build parking :)
@@YUMBL Thx for the answer. And is it even possible to succeed in the game without building infrastructure for cars? I know aou need some basic streets for public busses though.
Services must always get through though. So every building must be within range of a road that supports police, fire, medical, and/or goods shipments. Roads are required.
Do you have a list of all the extra you have in game, like these parking options. I know you have a list of all the mods. But a list of all the props would be nice
Most are in my collections
Awesome video's !!!
seriously thinking about obtaining this game. can you tell which version you purchased as well as any plug-ins? thanks for your input.
I just got the base game initially. After dark and snowfall DLC are necessary imo.
If you activate realistic parking in TMPE, how do you know when parking needs have been met?
In the traffic view buildings will be colored. Green for good, red for needs more parking. Same with transit!
@@YUMBL do you know if that status calculates into the traffic flow percent? Or is it simply a color indicator?
Two separate values i believe
next level!
Thanks ;)
Basically: vanilla player may ignore it :D
Yeah, not every city is Seattle! Haha
I enjoy using big parking lots even for smaller parking lots. But I still can’t seem to get the version with parking on the outside edges to work. Yumbl had it on the thumbnail but did not show instructions in the video. Any tips are appreciated.
Which version?
@@YUMBL never mind… and I was wrong. That looks like parking lot roads on the thumbnail. I had trouble with big parking lots outside edge curb parking version to work. But I was playing around with it today and figured out what I was doing wrong.
I can't get the Big Parking Lots to work right. If the ground isn't perfectly flat they don't place correctly and the clipping removal doesn't fix it as its not really a clipping problem. Either that or I am just stupid and doing something wrong.
Parking lots need to be flat
Looks very nice... I cant get any of these parking lots down. I draw in Big-PL just as you show in the video. try to put in the parking spaces with the 1x1 tiles.. and its RED the whole time cannot place them. have tried it a few times no luck.
You’ll need to download “fine toad anarchy” to place things where the game wont let them go. Sorry if i wasn’t clear about it!
@@YUMBL after a few tries.. I realized I didn't have anarchy on. Duh... Thx !!!
Do road texture change if you have different road texture mod installed or will it always be a dark black road?
How do I force zoning on the larger parking lot roads....the single ones without boarders and fillers? Fairly new to these terms and uses but I have a asset that just needs a short wide parking lot. I do not have zone grid to snap to. Someone told me to force zoning but I have no idea how. Help?
Theres a mod called “toggle zoning” that should do it!
I keep having an issue where my parking spot textures are blue instead of concrete. Also, when I try to use my clipping remover or place some parking spots, it's red even though I have prop anarchy. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?
I wonder how much they're willing to pay if you have a parking lot that can be accessed only through a toll plaza 🤔
This is the first time in my life, see the yt video that have 828 likes and NO DISLIKE. appreciate!
The funny thing is people hate parking lots 😂
There is a snapping mod for parking lot roads.
Yea, NOW there is.
9:06: Is that the University City I think it is?
How do you make the road that dark?
I have a video called “dark roads” that explains it.
