  • What if Napoleon's Continental System succeeded in isolating the British Empire from the European continent, forcing them to surrender the war effort, putting an end to the centuries long Franco-British wars, thus leading Napoleon to never invade Russia, and ultimately conquer Europe?

I don't think the Europeans would just let Britain have the seas. They would hurry reinventing ships, sailing and military techniques to save their colonies and trade.
Also, why does Russia not have Alaska in this timeline? They just give up because Europe helps them industrialise? I can see them colonising Alaska and reaching the US, creating a new, British-free trade route and becoming vastly more important in European economy. Also, assuming Europe just gives up in the seas, Alaska is a direction for all of them to colonise, as well as southern Asia.

    • @Vict0r1984
      @Vict0r1984 Před 2 lety +20

This video, and channel in general, is massively pro-British-biased.
There is no way under such a scenario that a united European navy wouldn't have crushed the British at sea and eventually invaded somewhere in the 1830s if not earlier. A 1940s Britain could witstand a large European coalition alone for almost 2 years cause by that point it was an industrial superpower with an empire of more than 400 million people to draw upon (and Russia was never part of the coalition fighting them in ww2... ) - in this scenario, Britain's empire barely had more than a tenth the population of its ww2 one, with the new world being extremely sparsely populated, (the whole of British North America still had less than 2 million residents in the 1810s if I'm not mistaken) AND would be at war with all of Europe plus embargoed by Russia.
Chances are after the first few losses at sea there would be a Scottish revolution, and then with the French landing in Dover the whole empire would be destroyed and split into smaller nations without colonies - France might struggle to retain control over Europe, especially after Napoleon dies, but there's literally no way for an early 1800s Britain to resist a united European empire or still succeed to colonise all of India as this video assumes - it's just British bias at its finest...

@@Vict0r1984I wouldn't say that to be honest. The British admiralty was extremely skilled. As well as this, have you heard of the "two power standard." We had to be more powerful then the last two biggest navies combined. After we destroyed the fleets at Trafalgar it was complete overkill. A spread out poorly managed and probably reluctant naval attack with all of Europe together would just result in no more ships for the rest.

To start of your demise, the two power standard was only invented in 1908, but I should have anticipated on the stupidity of your people to always mix chauvinism with history. Secondly, although the British obviously had supreme naval superiority around the 1800’s, do you really- in the unending stupidity of your ant sized brain- believe that in an alternate timeline were Napoleon held on an empire that controlled the whole of Europe in an continental alliance, Britain would have survived? Napoleon would have command of the surviving French, Spanish, Dutch, Austrian, Neapolitan, Danish, Prussian, Russian, maybe even the Portugese and Swedish fleets. That alone would have been enough to blast Britain to pieces. There’s only so much that can be done with skill, at the end of the day, sheer numbers would have won Napoleon the naval engagement if carried out correctly, and believe me, with such an position, he would have carried it out well. And beyond that, o I see, the patethic peasant has, in the almost soothing simplicity of his mind, totally and very conveniently forgotten that ships don’t just EXCIST, they are MADE, out of WOOD, SAILCLOTH, paid with MONEY. And what would Napoleon have had in this timeline? An ENTIRE CONTINENT worth of wood, sailcloth, money, and thus the capability to produce ships at a pace that the British could only dream of.
Say “bye bye” to naval superiority little insect.
Now, please dispose me of your presence, or next time it will get quite messy, little cockroach. Next time try elevating yourself at least with the tiniest bit of historical sense and common knowledge about the simple laws of ships, economy, and naval superiority.

He's just wrong - the rest of the empire was very sparsely populated back then. If France effectively maintained control of Europe, it would've only been a matter of time till a combined-built French-Dutch-Prussian-Spanish fleet annihilates the British one, takes over their colonies, lands troops in Britain, occupies London, helps the Welsh, Irish and Scottish gain independence and ultimately destroys the whole empire by the late 1830s at the latest.
If Britain already had its 1900s colonial empire to draw upon back in the early 1800s this vid would've been correct, but it's colonial possessions were actually far fewer and more sparsely populated back then, so, much like France during Napoleon's last year in power, Britain would stand no chance against a united European coalition fighting them...

You need to be able to move product up and down rivers to the coast to really have a pan European economy. Same issue with invading Portugal. Pedro I, D. Pedro I never marries Maria Leopoldina of Austria so there is no D. Pedro II, because of the British pressure and alliance, the Kingdom of Brazil would probably ban slavery very earlier, at least until 1850, and without the slavery system, the industry would develop much faster, making Brazil a potential regional power and very important ally to Britain in the Americas.

    Dear
    Monsieur Z,
When you display the world map of the scenario, would it be possible for you to list the relevant year, period of years, or maybe even date (when relevant, what relevant) in the corner?
It makes it easier for me to follow your narrative, and focus broadly on contemplating the variables you open (and I usually play games on my other screen while watching, and it is a bit annoying to have to go back, because I lost track of the timeline). I would appreciate this greatly.
    Keep up the excellent work!
Even if I at times disagree with your conclusions, then your path to these conclusions always adds something to my own perspective and analysis.

What if France never halted the Saar Offensive and pushed into the Rhine in 1939?
Since the majority of the German Army and Luftwaffe were in Poland at the outbreak of war, France and Britain had essentially every advantage on the Western Front, they just neglected their alliance with Poland and left them to their fate when they could have potentially intervened while the Wehrmacht was still engaged in Poland. General Jodl at the Nuremburg Trials had explained that had France and the British pushed into Germany during this time, Germany would have lost.

The surviving Japanese starve on Attu until another assault wipes them out. Maybe the IJN is drawn into battle near Alaska, maybe not. Regardless Japan wouldn't have the logistical capability to use the position effectively. The US eventually gets it back and the war inevitably goes west, nothing significant changing.
