We just got back from the Off-road Games and our Subie Gump earned its off-road amateur badge. We only saw one other Subie out there and it was a Baja.
I just bought a 22 Ascent Touring and I love it! Its fun too see it do off roading and what it can do! Athough mine will probaby never see off roading like this 😂
They are tons of fun. Comfy to get me to my adventure spots, and fun off road too. 🙂
I just got a 2006 Subaru Baja for my first car and absolutely love it! How capable is it in it's stock configuration and what are your thoughts on it?
Sorry for the late reply. YT stopped sending me notifications. It's pretty capable, but, not as capable as the new generation Subies with the new generation of CVT (in the Moab Madness vid, you can see it needing a tow assist to get up an obstacle).
I would definitely upgrade the suspension to something better suited - that will make a lot of difference.
@@SubaruAmbassadorRobert no problem! Now then, does “change the suspension” mean a 2” lift, or RaceWorks overland coilovers?
@@armorhobbies I'd go with different shocks and struts. Raceworks would be really nice, but, there may be other options as well.
as a long time turbo baja owner, since 2908 with my 2005. Keep it simple with lift.
When kind of tires do they have on the Baja? I'm working on a Baja build myself
He's running *_BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO2_* tires. Not what I would recommend. They're not the grippiest on loose sand on dirt, on ice, on packed snow, etc. What size tires are you looking at? I'm very happy with my *_Falken Wildpeak AT3W_* tires, and am looking forward to trying the *_Milestar Patagonia AT Pro_* tires next. I had been running KO2's on my Ascent, and am soooo glad I switched away from them.
@@SubaruAmbassadorRobert I am, at the moment, looking to fit stock wheels. Eventually I want to lift the car but its not in the budget right now.
Thanks!
@@l.e.miller1208 I think he upsized his setup. You're running P225/60R16?
@@SubaruAmbassadorRobert Yeah for the time being.
@@l.e.miller1208 that's a tough size. No one makes all terrains in that size, sadly. 😔
At what height does the baja sit? Looks absolutely great this way
2" lift kit. :-)
@@SubaruAmbassadorRobert cool thanks 👍
@@mex5807 any time. You can see it adventuring with us in all of the 2021 Utah Adventure Vids.
Loved the video but the elevator music was too much. It would had been nice to hear the engine grunts in the sand. Maybe next time break up the music and add genuine sounds
Thanks! Yeah, that's something that we wanted to do, but we didn't have extra mic packs. All the in-camera on-car mics pick up most of the time is wind noise. We've got four "in-device" tiny mic packs now that we can mount in or on the car in various places like up in the windshield cowl area out of the wind, etc, that can grab some nice road and car noise. We've also started running extra cams out of the wind to grab some audio.
When we do some of the slower stuff, we get some nice car audio, like in some of the "normal speed" video sections in our "Moab Madness" video.
But mostly, when moving even at those speeds (15-30 mph), the audio mostly sounds like a wind storm, lol!
