    This is a great review of the Trent Airshield Pro. I’m waiting for my Order and familiarizing myself with the unit ahead of time. Just watched a negative review saying this unit was painful to wear. I’m thinking that reviewer didn’t read about the proper adjustments. We will see when Mine arrives. I think it will work well for me as I’m not an 8 hour a day turner. Another thing people complain about is cost. I don’t think protecting your lungs is too expensive with this unit. I was happy to find it become available where I live at 1/4 of the cost of some PAPR units.

      Thank you. You make a great point about the adjustments. Very important. Cheers

    This is definitely a step up from junior high shop class turning with a shield mounted on the lathe and no mask 😷 As with IT, RTFM - Read The Fine Manual is alway good advice. Thanks for the informative videos.

    Nice overview, Paul! I just received mine in the mail today!!! I'll be putting it to work tomorrow as I'm sanding those maple bowls!

      That's great, Mark. Great for sanding. For green bowl turning, I find that I don't use mine until sanding time for the most part, and then it is so great to have. When I don't wear it during sanding, I find myself laying in bed that night with my nose all stuffed up, kicking myself for not wearing it.
      Keep those amazing maple bowls coming. I hope you have a ton of that wood. What a score!

  • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023

    Wow, that one will work with glasses and a beard. May have to pick one up because walnut dust is not fun to breathe. Thanks for sharing this video.

      Yep! The positive pressure pushes clean air out through the gaps so it doesn't require a tight seal. In fact, it requires a less than perfect seal so that the positive air flow can be maintained.

    This was a very informative video. Listing both the pros and cons helps me make the best buying decisions possible. Thanks!

    Thanks! I've been going back and forth on this unit for some time now, and I think you just tipped me over to buying one. I have COPD, and this just might a HUGE difference for me while turning, and doing other wood working. Thanks so much for the info.

      Dang! I was afraid that might be the case. People are probably buying them for grocery shopping. Hopefully things will settle down soon. Ugh.

    This is a good review...but I think you overlooked a pretty important fact about the face shield. That would be the weight...while it's effective keeping sawdust out and a relatively clean face shield (due to the air flow preventing it from fogging up) the overall weight of the headset can be tiring on the neck if turning for any long period of time. I love my trend face shield but since I turn mostly green wood it isn't really a necessary tool for me until I start sanding...that's when I find it invaluable.

    Very thorough review. My company has been at work on a PAPR with an all in one design monocoque manifold. Our aim is a PAPR that's more accessible to the DIY crowd. When we have certification, would you be willing to give it a try to compare? Its called MicroClimate Air3.

      Hi Michael, that sounds interesting. There are so many DIY applications for this type of technology, and that market is entirely underserved. Yes, I'd be happy to take a look, even before your certification if you'd like. Looking forward to it. Cheers,
      Paul

    Can the battery be damaged by leaving it plugged in or is it a smart charger system? Thanks for the review.

    • @ToolMetrix
      @ToolMetrix  Před 5 lety +1

      The charger is not a smart charger system, and the battery should be removed from the charger after it is fully charged. This is the weak link of an otherwise great product.

    long time follower first time writing, I like your reviews short and not full of sales pitch. I bought most of my Laguna machines based on your reviews and after weighing the options I need for the price I'm willing to part with, I got most of my machines from Laguna. I recently bought a lathe and was thinking about a powered face shield but I'm not willing to pay for 3m versaflow as I beleive there must be a cheaper and still worth it option out there. air shield pro caught my attention and since you had it long enough do you still use it find it useful?

    • @ToolMetrix
      @ToolMetrix  Před rokem

      Thank you. It still works great although the battery life is getting better short now.

    Hi, I also wear glasses and have a short beard. If I wear the traditional face shield with a 3m dust mask, won't the shield fog up?
    I would love to buy the Airshield but it's expensive and I am a pensioner.
    Thanks for your information.

      Fogging isn’t a problem when it’s running. It basically works like a defroster.

    This is not for me. About one month after the warranty was out the motor burned out. They wouldn't do anything about it. I liked the product so I ordered another, and the motor burned out after only about 8-10 hours of use. Look for something different.

      Absolutely. I keep my head shaved and buffed to make it easy to slip safety gear on and off. I recommend it.
