- Today I turn a water bottle made from wood that you can actually use. Made from scraps of walnut and maple. Finish with lemon oil.

Woodturning - The Water Bottle - Awesome idea to re-use Plastic
Love all your work. Although it isn’t safe to keep reusing a plastic water bottle for long periods of time as the plastics eventually releases toxins that can be harmful especially if it’s left in warm places, so I hope you have figured out a way to replace the plastic bottle inside every month or so
Actually exposure to UV light causes the plastic to break down and leech into the water. Putting it in a light proof wooden container might prevent that, or at least slow it down.
A few of you have pointed this out, I didn't know that. It wasn't made to be used on a daily basis anyway, it's more of a novelty item. But the bottle can always be replaced by sucking out the air with a vacuum if needed.
I'd rather habe the toxins in my body than on my fields so I guess it's ok.
Really? That's what you took from this?
You can't simply enjoy his work and skill without nitpicking about something so trivial?
@@johnnymullins9237 man, he doesn't want the creator to poison himself. What an asshole.
Thinking quickly, Dave constructs a water bottle, using only some wood, some woodglue, a lathe, several complicated pieces of machinery, a compressed air system and a water bottle.
The WATER BOTTLE ! WAS ! CLICKBAIT !! HERE !!
NOT A MONKEY!
Reads like a Farside comic.
Lol. This was dumb!!! Get away from that plastic. I was duped into this one.
Who's Dave ??!!
The fact that you refilled the bottle from another bottle is slightly hilarious. Also, the fact that you took a break from your work to investigate the incredibly important air pressure rocket was absolutely awesome, glad you included that :)
yes haha, a comment maybe on the absurdity of using plastic water bottles
I think refilling his new bottle from a sealed plastic bottle was meant largely to test capacity, if his crafted bottle holds the same as a new one, his plastic liner was fully expanded inside the wooden sheath. If it did not take the full bottle, there are kinks or areas folded over in the liner, if it takes MORE than the new bottle, you have an internal leak in the lining. Less comment than quality control testing.
They make a neoprene huggies for water bottles, but of course i dont have a fancy lathe either
@@fionam3554
Thank u Mrs engineer.
That was the reason
Gotta have fun on your break time.
Is there anything this man can not make on a wood lathe ????? incredible work, destined to be one of the finest craftsman on the planet
We must place hundreds of these in titanium time capsules, launch them into the most distant depths of the universe, and see who responds first. And then keep a list.
This guy is awesome because he loves his work 😍
So... We've taken a perfectly reusable bottle and made a perfectly reusable bottle, plus a load of sawdust. Good work 😂👍
That's not a reusable plastic bottle he stuffed inside the wooden one. . That one is actually supposed to be recycled after single use. Once the inner protective layer wears off, that bottle will dissolve all sorts of toxins in stored water, and it's designed for single use! So I see. . Unless this project is just an entertainment piece or just for show, it's fine. Hope Oliver doesn't drink out of it though.
First, the wood container cannot be used as a bottle unless it's perfectly waterproof, which isn't the case.
Second, the idea of this is to keep your drinks cool for a long time. I don't recommend hot beverages though because the bottle will shrink, deforming it permanently.
Guys, did you not see the tears of laughter? This comment is a light play on words. A bit of funny to lighten our day.
Bad and dangerous to environment
@@nigelwylie01 A very very little bit of funny. So little, most would say not funny at all
My friends in Philly will be so happy, they finally have a wooder bottle.
Super. You have very nice hands.
3am... Has anyone seen Olivier? Is he still out playing with that water bottle in the shop?
Yeah, he’s still outback blowing up and popping his disposable water bottles and knocking things over in the shop. I think they should take him back to the home before he really hurts himself, he could accidentally put that air hose up his butt and blow himself up. 😳
I'm also one of those that you can find in my shop at that time of the morning.I lose track of what day it is sometimes.
Is retirement wonderful or what?
My favorite medium is epoxy.
😂🤣😂🤣😁 probably the truth.
nah 3am and neighbours call the cops lol

J’hésites entre l'artiste et le génie... Sûrement les 2 vu la qualité de tout ce que tu crée, c'est toujours un plaisir a regarder.
I love the shots at the end, where you're just having fun. It's a great water bottle and a cool project, but the look of glee at the end? Awesome
Man, that Trombone arm is Genius.
It takes the guesswork out of interior carving, no risk of cutting a hole through your hard work.
However, instead of risking cracked and/or leeched plastic every time you replace the interior, you can always use a food-grade water seal, like linseed oil, so you can store the water directly within, and use a cork to cap the bottle.
It's like artificing your own Bottle-Gourd, but with recycled wood rather than waiting for the Calabash to grow.
Thanks for the explanation of there being an effective stop on the radius of carving out the interior. I would have been way too scared of carving out too far and having to start over, because I've actually done things like not using the right drill stop and drilling all the way through a cabinet door instead of just making a recessed hole in it.
Linseed oil, I don't think so.
Linseed oil, flax seed oil are same thing. Flax seed oil needs refrigeration, short shelf life. Linseed oil does not dry. The "boiled" of boiled linseed oil is the addition of toxic driers and is definitely not food safe.
Your work is ALWAYS amazing...but the outtakes were the crown jewels this week!!
I love how you put the wood together. It turned out nice. Perhaps there’s a way to make it 2 pieces instead of one.
Great job on the woodworking!
That is actually a really neat water bottle. Wouldn't mind one like that.
Quanto talento. Você é genial, parabéns.
Your woodwork is amazing!
But this inflated plastic water bottle inside will always remain wrinkled so that you cannot empty it totally. Remaing water will start to stink. And plastic will dissolve in the water.
Maybe the better solution is to cut the wooden bowl into half, to insert a water bottle made of glass and glue it together again.
Yeah...I'm thinking a screw-lid at the bottom of the wooden cover. That way there is no need to curl up and inflate the plastic bottle and you can also change it out later, if needed for some reason.
Make the bottom a disc that can be removed to change the bottle inside. No air pressure needed, and this means you could easily use a still-sealed bottle which is a requirement in some situations.
If that had been in the design from the start, it would have been a whole lot easier to hog the material out of the inside going through the bottom rather than the narrow neck.
@@Zhixalom çok gereksiz bir iş olmuş, plastik şişe için çok gereksiz çalışma
@@velicanverdi8827 Yep, I too get a lot of ideas which at the time seem almost unimaginably ingenious. But I have also learned to see that as a clue that they usually turn out to be much less than not so great at all in the long run 😁
Came for the woodturning, stayed for the jigs ❤️
Legend has it that this dude once got some popcorn kernel stuck on his teeth; twelve hours later, he walked out of his shop with a toothpick he made out of a walnut tree to clean it out with.
This was not at all what I was expecting. I honestly thought it was going to be a wooden water bottle replica, not a functioning device. Well done!
Also, the outtakes are great! You should include them more often!
I thought the same.....
You could cut the wooden bottle into half, put a glass bottle inside and glue it back. 😊 so you can use it for years.
better to craft the surround in two pieces. Also be easier to core. make your blank an inch long, cut off the bottom inch, put to the side, core main sheath, insert glass, glue back on butt cap.
You are a freaking weird genius. And I'm jealous of your tools and especially your skills.
Magandang pagkagawa ng wood turning bottle humahanga ako sa talent na yan napakagaling
When the out takes are as fun as the video. 🤣🤣🤣 Very clever project.
""It's a very creative solution, but after a while plastic creates micro-plastics and has a bad effect on the human body, of course the end result is amazing in every way, but I think it's worth replacing the plastic bottle with something else !""I wish you a pleasant and successful day and to everyone in strength, health and peace!

Just swallow whole waxworms, they eat plastic.
@@jamIam6548 Thank you very much for your comment! The device shown in the video is excellently presented by the creator and he makes a very precise, creative, innovative storage medium for the plastic bottle. Unfortunately, he didn't know at the time that the decomposing bottle could cause disease! can cause both humans and animals after a certain dose! The micro-plastics decomposed in water bodies are also harmful to aquatic organisms! May your day be beautiful and for everyone also in strength, health and peace!
👍🍀🇭🇺🌞👆
_" after a while plastic creates micro-plastics"_ Microplastics are created when plastic item enter the environment and start breaking down due to sun exposure, abrasion etc. Water bottles don't suddenly start creating microplastics when used in normal conditions, so please stop with the silly scaremongering.

Thank you very much for the correct comment! I am not spreading any horror news and it is not my intention to frighten anyone on some level! In essence, you described the same thing as I did, but you worded it differently! Read my previous two comments carefully! The point is that after a while micro plastic is formed sooner or later and it is definitely not healthy! I also drink from plastic bottles which are not too old! Have a nice day and weekend with strength, health and peace! I wish you much success and luck!

This is beautiful work, truly it is. I thought it was going to be a lovely lamp or a vase. I would not waste this beautiful workmanship on a plastic bottle. Also if you are going to use it with a plastic bottle, I think you should’ve made the bottom unscrew the bottom to replace the bottle because they don’t last forever and you can’t clean it properly the way it is now. Really don’t want to get dysentery or something else disgusting from a dirty bottle. Also, if the plastic bottle leaks the water will turn that beautiful wood to mold on the inside and you probably wouldn’t even realize it. Now, not to waste this beautiful bottle idea, if you could make the bottom screwable, you could use it for presenting your favorite wine at the table, refilling a glass bottle While also being able to remove the bottle to clean it for a different wine. Or to put the leftovers in the fridge.
So much talk..
So little understanding..
a word of advice.. if you see a ship in a bottle, don’t break the bottle to get the ship out, because you feel the ship is being “wasted” in the tight bottle!!
@@adamfirst9321 A ship in a bottle is not a functional piece, like this theoretically is
Yeah, great idea with the srewable bottom! Use a glas or metal bottle.
Those single use plastic bottles are not made for reuse. Regularly, they are not even recycled. Best to not buy them at all. Buy glas or just drink from the sink at home if your cities water is clean.
@@littlesnowflakepunk855
it isn’t intended to be a “functional piece”, theoretically or practically.
It is intended to be an ART PIECE. crafted to RESEMBLE a water bottle, with an “impossible” plastic water bottle IMBEDDED INSIDE the wood bottle.
THAT is the impressive part to anyone who hasn’t seen it being made. it’s a SHOW piece.. a CONVERSATION piece.. a FLEX of his shop equipment and talents..
If he wanted to have a screw-on opening at the bottom, he wouldn’t put ALL that effort into hollowing it out from the tight neck!!!
but yeah, keep on thinking he was trying to build a simple wooden water bottle holder, but he just didn’t think to put a bigger opening on the bottom!!
smh
@@adamfirst9321 "awesome idea to reuse plastic"
the keyword there being "reuse." lemme break it down for you
the word "use" means to employ something to achieve a goal. the prefix "re-" means "again." the combination of the two implies that the end goal is to use the plastic item for the same purpose as it was originally intended to be used for
That is flipping amazingly beautiful. Love the design and look! Thanks for sharing all your great techniques.
Cool water bottle.
That workshop is over-the-top. I've actually never seen all of the tooling you were using, like the rollers - ever. And your chisel collection is none like I've ever seen. This stands out from all the other woodturners posting on utube.
Cool water bottle.
Your work is next level!!.. truly amazing!!
WOW WOW WOW, Dude this is seriously impressive, I was wondering the whole time, how & if you were gonna fill it with water & then BOOOOM you defeated all odds & put a bottle inside, my jaw literally dropped open as soon as I realised how you were doing it, I tip my hat to you my friend, well done Sir 🏆
Excelente trabalho!
You have successfully convinced me that you are crazy
But that is beautiful
It is a very clever idea. For the long term maybe access the bottom to remove and replace the bottle so that bacteria cannot grow. But over all I find it very creative. Looking forward to some of your other works. Shalom
Don’t ever stop being you! Outtakes were great… the Idea was greater.
That was very unique! Liked the added outtakes also. Be cool to see more of those.
I'm buying an air compressor with the money from selling off all my wood working tools an equipment so I can have an expensive airgun to shoot plastic bottles an jugs around with!
Thank you for the idea, definitely going to ramp up productivity!
all this process for reusing a plastic water with lot of toxins,,, well this guy are really genius!!!
I don't know how functional it can be as something portable, but I figure it would make a really interesting conversation piece on the dinner table. Very, very creative.
It would probably work for a while but then yes it would make a lovely vase too.
The award for the most complicated koozie design goes to... Bravo on the craftsmanship, right? There are easier ways to recycle. You just wanted to flex that lathe on everyone. 😉 It's some nice kit. ❤🤓🪵

I was wondering how you were going to waterproof the bottle, and it turns out you didn’t even have to! Beautiful as always, Olivier.
You could always use food save epoxy resin, and just do a thin coat on the inside. Maybe do a layer or two to be sure.
this shits fucking dumb lmao those bottles aren't meant for re-use, enjoy microplastics
That seems the whole/only point to this video
The title makes the entire video look like a giant waste of wood. Call it wooden water bottle and it will be ok
Pleasing to the algorithm indeed. You have done well, content creating slave.
Respect you are a real craftsman .
Muy buen trabajo. Sumamente creativo! Felicitaciones!
P.D.: interesante la práctica de tiro al blanco😄.

The fact that he refilled the bottle with water from another bottle 😄
volume testing.
Magnifique, comme d'habitude avec vos réalisations !
This workshop is amazing!
I love ideas like this. Reminds me of making stainless steel pens based around the pilot g2 cartridge. Making more elegant stuff out of existing stuff is awesome; hope to see more like this in the future.
Olivier, that was truly impressive! The final result looks great. What made you think of crushing the plastic bottle and using air to puff it back out once inside? Is it only glued at the top?
Looking forward to what you dream up next, you never cease to amaze and entertain.
Imagine how much effort is required to reuse every such plastic bottle. Sometimes creativity should be built upon the premises of common sense and viability
Very ingenious, I'am impressed 👏
Great job.
We used to have reusable drinks containers called Thermos flasks that also kept the drink hot or cold.
So much for progress.
Wood is a good insulator, so it will work as one as well- and there's no glass vacuum lining to break if you drop it. No need to be salty
That is a great way to use your offcuts and get that green look while still getting your daily dose of those sweet, sweet microplasticts!
Seriously, though, this is a bloody clever idea!
Monsieur... vous réveillez l'éteincelle de la passion pour l'ébénisterie et le tournage que j'ai perdus voila quelques temps... merci :)

Dave , you are making such as extra efforts that leads your work to the next level , hats off to your talent man , nicely done it with perfect grip 🙂🙂🙂🙂
No one should be allowed to have that much fun!!
Awesome way of reusing a cheap plastic water bottle in their simple trick using thousands of dollars worth of equipment, hundreds of dollars worth of materials and money...👍
The project is very interesting, the work is top tier as always, but I've got to say that it's really unhealthy to reuse the tame olzskt bottle to drink because of th plastic degradation that let you drink some of its components diluted in water by time
What happens when the plastic goes bad? (anyone who has reused plastic water bottles knows this phenomenon)
Yep. This is a gorgeous piece, so I hope the plastic can be replaced when it starts to break-down.
É só trocar...
He can suck the air out to crumple it back up ? as long as there aint a huge hole in it !
Already breaking down as you empty it the 1st time, I can imagine after crumpling it down
Excellente idée et humour de la fin de vidéo est excellent aussi. Merci.
Beautiful work! Amazing!
Lots of expensive tools + lots of free time + lots of wood = something useless... amazing!
= my retirement someday ;-) but add lots of metals also.
I loved the idea of recycling our old water bottles like you show in the video so much that I ended up making one of these wood containers for every discarded water bottle I could find in my home. Although I’m so thankful that I am contributing to saving our planet, if you want to do this you should be aware of a couple of things. One. It will take a lot longer than six minutes as shown in the video. It ended up taking me about six hours per wood container. Two. Although I feel good about recycling the plastic, because I found approximately 85 discarded water bottles, I ended up using a lot of wood and glue. This made me question whether saving 85 water bottles was really worth all of the trees and glue that I used. I also have to buy a larger home to keep the 85 much larger wood containers in. I guess it’s give-and-take. I just wish the guy in the video was a little more upfront about the trade-offs before I endeavored to start this project. Although I did question whether I should continue after I had spent about $2500 on supplies, because I’m not a quitter, I went ahead and saw it through to the end.
Impractical, but I liked the wood working.
now thats a crazy ass lathe. i love this thing, really cool dawg
I was wondering how you were going to get that water bottle inside the container you were making, then you started crunching it down to size. Enough said. Amazing!
Hi Oliver, another brilliant project. So good to see you laughing and messing about in your workshop. Due to the nature of the job, you always seem quite serious. Fantastic upload ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

nice! but I thought it was going to be without using plastic bottle inside, which could be harmful as time goes...but great job! I wish I had a place like that or if I could work there with you :)
You're my favourite turner on YT. Always interesting and creative. That's the first time I've seen you use that metal holder with the four wheels. What happened to the other one that you made out of wood?

Oh wow that was so awesome and cool nice very nice work
That was awesome! So seriously cool. And loved the outtakes. ::snicker::
Thanks, as always for posting! You do such amazing and creative work, it is a joy to see
Beautiful woodwork - impractical. There's reasons disposable water bottles are single use - they are engineered to hold water in a sterile environment. They aren't designed to be washed and reused. That's so much work for something that can be hazardous to your health. Stay safe! And maybe pick a reusable/cleanable liner next time. (Sorry, I don't know anything offhand with the properties you'd need to line the finished vessel. Is there anyway to make your vessel removable so the liner can go through the dishwasher?)
right! I also agree with you.
Um verdadeiro artista. Parabéns
You're a very innovative guy Olivier!
0:31 I love the use of the safety sticks followed immediately by putting your wrist near the still spinning blade, definitely not a good idea!
That's one of the coolest wood water bottles I've ever seen
WOW! That's amazing...and beautiful! Nice job.
If you cut the bottom part and put a glass bottle, you can still get the result by sticking it later. Also, do not forget that PET bottles contain Bishenol A (BPA). It's a beautiful piece of work in terms of art. Also, gourd was used in the villages of our country (Turkey). Being both light and heat-insulating made it an excellent carboy (water container). Developing technology has unfortunately destroyed it.
Okay man, how in the world have you acquired such an array of tools and equipment at so young an age? I didn’t even know a lot of stuff you’re using was even out there. Fascinating channel, thanks.

Seems like a lot of work for little gain to me! If you love woodworking fine it looks beautiful. I wonder what happens when the glue on the cap lets go and you can't get it open?
then the wood cover on the cap falls off and you twist off the plastic cap like normal, it's literally not an issue at all, or, get this, put more glue in the wood cover and glue it back onto the plastic cap, there, 2 solutions for you.
Creative and beautiful! The outtakes had me giggling. That’s a good video right there, and I enjoyed it. Thank you!❤
There is no better way to explain greenwashing. Loved the viedo.
That was actually pretty dope 💪💪💪
I really like the idea! But I just had a thought, wouldn't the plastic in the water bottle eventually degrade? I remember there being a reason to not reuse plastic bottles for a reason like that. Or is the idea to replace the plastic part every so often?
What a beautiful job, you certainly know how to use a lathe to produce a lovely item....Very well done......Andre..
