I've seen episodes here and there, watched a chunk here and there, through out the years, but never actually sat down and committed to it all straight through. That is until this winter, curled up in a blanket, and it was the coziest time of my life! Thanks for doing this
"No Thanks, Nurse Venus!" of the Dic dub, is my favorite episode. It was one of the few episodes that I managed to record from tv with a VCR back then, and I found it hilarious. I watched it so many times.
This moment, has stuck with me since I was 10, and at 10, then again when I rediscovered at 6 in the morning 6 years later, and seeing Naru's pain and the Scout's tears for Naru *STILL* got me choked up and on the verge of tears even six years later in my teens(in around 2001).
I loved this! This made me appreciate certain episodes even more than I already did. I might have to make my own list!
Ep 126 is better than you remember! It's the conclusion to all the characters in S: Michiru and Haruka taking care of baby Hotaru and then leaving the baby in her father's arms, Chibiusa speaking with a sort of phantom of Pluto who seemingly died and Chibiusa didn't know about, then she sees baby Hotaru with her father in the hospital and tears up. Then Neptune and Uranus fight Sailor Moon, and then they leave in Haruka's car and you see flashbacks of their story... It's a fantastic conclusion episode!
Sadly the animation is atrocious...

This episode does have one of my favorite animation bits in the series, where An slips around the tree going from human form to alien form.
I Love this. It made me start rewatching Sailor Moon from scratch. I think I have to buy the DIC dub because I also miss Molly from Brooklyn! lol This new dub doesn't hit the same. Flaws and all. Great review and episode choices!

It was pretty hard to not realize Usagi was the Moon Princess in the 90's DiC dub when they spoiled it in the very opening sequence.

Episode 51 is just visually stunning, I think that's what really did it for me, def on my top 10. It's also one of the most comical episodes aside from the Food Fight ep of the Doom Tree arc. The friendly banter between Rei and Usagi at the end, too cute. 💖 Thanks, guys, this was AMAZING!!

Please consider doing either a top 10 worst episodes - or even better, an entire tier list about all the episodes, senshi, villains and what not!!
Fun fact, I live about 10 minutes from the place where episode 147 takes place (Rikkyo University) so this was a much appreciated choice for this list❤🔥
I recently watched your two, 'Iceberg,' Sailor Moon videos, as well as this one. I enjoyed them all and have no dispute with either of your top-ten lists.
As you invited your viewers to do, here are some of my picks for consideration for episodes you did not mention. I will reveal, though, the first time I saw Sailor Moon was a DIC box set of the Doom Tree story arc, so I have a particular fondness for several of those episodes:
48 - Naru realizes, “It seems I always get involved in weird incidents,” and the other four Senshi regain their memories.
49 - I think the music in the DIC version is really quite good, including the original songs such as here, Rainy Day Man. Sailor Moon's concern for Jupiter is quite touching.
52 - Kindergarten bullies call Mina an, “old bag,” and her new, young, friend Mie, when asked by Mina what she things of Sailor Venus, responds, “Who's that?”
54 - Another great song in the DIC version, Oh Starry Night. Also good character development in this episode for Rei, revealing the apparently ever-confident shrine maiden struggles with self-doubt.
55 - You have to love an episode with the line, “In the name of Jupiter, I call upon the forces of love and nature to banish this Mop Head!” Ami and Makoto's interaction at the beginning of the episode is nice, as is the, “herd,” of girls chasing Alan. Another great moment: Mercury's expression and Sailor Moon's sarcastic, “Hey, thanks a lot, Pyro,” when Mars burns away their bonds. Finally, Alan and Ann sharing human food is a cute scene which foreshadows their eventual redemption.
I really like all the episodes that introduced the Inner Planet senshi: 8, 10, 25 and 29, but if forced to pick just two . . . .
8 - This episode is the first to use the catchy song Sailor Jupiter (so-named on The Full Moon Collection CD.) Queen Beryl's and Jadeite's subtle criticism of the rigors of the Japanese educational system is certainly interesting.
29 - The fake Sailor Moon and the classic deathtrap makes this a particular favorite of mine.
Other episodes rounding out my top ten . . . err . . . eleven!
19 - I love Sailor Moon's line, “I don't wanna be a pancake!”
102 - Venus's impersonation of Sailor Moon is a highlight of the entire series!
106 - The backstory of Haruka and Michiru and their first on-screen transformation. Love that music!
181 - The ringing telephones tormenting Sailor Iron Mouse predicted the coming of cellphones! Love the use of Chopin's Funeral March, as well as the English telephone booth, which must have been an homage to the Tardis!
I do have the following criticisms of your video:
1. Although at the beginning you seem to disparage the Vanity Fair (sic) list, I don't believe either of you strongly disagreed with any of the Variety author's selections;
2. Amanda, in episode 103, Usagi is trying to decide between a donkey and a hippo, not an elephant. (No American political joke here! ;>)
3. I do wish you both had not used so much profanity. There were a lot of f-bombs and s**t for a review of what is still basically a children's show. Also, it is my understanding profanity is rarely used in Japan. I will admit, however, this may be a generational attitude of mine.

My favorite episode is in S, ep 118 Battle Inside the Demonic Space: The Sailor Guardians’ Gamble. It’s such a goofy episode and highlights Chibiusa and Hotaru’s friendship ❤ it’s just nice to watch, requires no brain cells or emotional stability 😂 also I love how goofy Professor Tomoe is in it!

Trivia on Nara Dreamland from Ep 11, & I think another episode too, is that you can watch several urban explorers explore the abandoned park (before it was finally demolished..?). It’s very surreal if you recognize certain parts of the park from SM & see it abandoned & decaying. Especially considering how enthusiastic Usagi is at the park.
Loved this video, I was so hype when Power of Love came on at the end. Sailor Moon R was my favorite thing to watch as a kid, I would rent the movie from blockbuster every time we went. I got the DVD of Sailor Moon R as an adult and it didn't have this song because it was a new dub so I tracked down a VHS tape of R from the 90s

Just watched this whole thing. Want to say I really appreciated this, recently getting back into Sailor Moon (I still haven't watched it all the way through) and it's great seeing my feelings on why I love the anime so much be validated and put into words. The thing that actually got me back into it was the Love and Justice podcast, and the sentiment there is very much pro-manga and pro-crystal, so it's good to have my old thoughts back, I had sort of second guessed everything with how silly and flawed the old anime can be. But the heart of it is very much sustained and again it's good to hear other people share that
My favorite episode is probably "The Shocking Moment: Everyone’s Identities Revealed" not only being a great episode in general but a great outing for Minako. If anything, we can thank her for forcing an identity reveal.

Late commenting on this (realized I forgot to ever while watching the new one lol), makes me so happy Usagi vs. Rei made it so high on one of the lists. It's my absolute favorite it's SO good lol, if you're somehow reading this thanks Amanda for putting it on it's my favorite too lol ^^ Deserves more recognition it's so good lol. ^^ Kin of agree too I really like the early Moon, Mercury, and Mars era and dynamic. I absolutely love Mako and Minako but, idk I feel like the early trio was really balanced.

Great stuff you two, that was so much fun to hear two fans supremely geeking like I do for Sailor Moon! It's clear I need to do a re-watch after listening to you 2 talk about this! I don't think I've watched SuperS properly all the way through, need to fix that!
For me any content with Hotaru is top teir for me, 124-125....... I've etched those into my memory for all time! I know Crystal isint the most popular among fans, but they really gave Hotaru way more screen time as Sailor Saturn and I was so happy to see it!
I can't fully sum up how deeply I love Hotaru's story and struggle, so I'll just leave this masterpiece of an AMV here.

Professor Tomoe was a fun villain yeah, but like...he's a horrible person. Despite the brainwashing, he was horrible before that was well. But I did like the video in total. It was great!
Please do a worst 10, just for the laughs. Or at least worst villains? Scariest villains? Most bonkers plot lines?
I like the manga, Crystal, Eternal and Cosmos of Sailor Moon better than the 90'S anime because it shows a sign quote "Accept the things you cannot change, have the courage to change the thing you can and have the wisdom to know the difference".Serenity prayer to signs of consequence of making mistakes but we can always fix things to make things right no matter what with courage and wisdom with the power of love will always triumph over evil Sailor Moon says no matter what.
I would rank the Season finales separate from other episodes personally, what they are doing is so much different that I just fundamentally have different expectations for them.
I like Haruka and Michiru but I don't like how the 90s Anime handled them. On Sailor Moon I like Ikuhara as an episode director but not as a series director, the best season was the first and the Doom Tree saga.
The best writer on Sailor Moon was Katsuyuki Sumisawa, he's the only one who could get good episodes out of how ikuhara messed up the Black Moon Saga.
I hate that whole break up Plot from R, it's at the core of why I hate that season so much. The Black Moon Saga is so great in the Manga and Crystal which just makes me even more angry at how Ikuhara screwed it up.
I love that Naoko goes all the way with it, that's what I watch Anime for, for them to nod hold back Western cowardly writers would.
Dentist of Horrors is the best episode to come out of SuperS, it's great and I'm amazed there is no AMV of it to that song from Little Shot of Horrors.
Kaon Redemption is potentially going to be a subject of something I intend one of my Blog eventually, definitely the best thing you can squeeze out of that arc of the 90s Anime.
Redemption was not a Consistent theme in the 90s Anime, there were plenty they didn't.
Episode 51 probably isn't one of my favorite but I wouldn't call it questionable, it is the only Ikuhara episode of the Doom Tree Saga and is important to setting up how that Arc will actually resolve being written by the same writer who both started and ended the arc. On the above mention subject of season finales, the finale of the Doom Tree Arc is my favorite, it's a perfect Eucatastrophe.
I have a Blog post comparing the first episodes of 90s Anime and Crystal and The Manga. But I would also argue the Talk Radio episode is more important to how the 90s Anime figured itself out then either of the first two episodes. And I actually feel most other magical Girl pilots are quite different form Sailor Moon in how they utterly remove the pretense of the Refusal of The Call, a detail that to me further show how Sailor Moon is not the genre fully formed yet.
The first 6 episodes of Stars are basically all the show correcting various mistakes Ikuhara made in S and SueprS as an adaptation so they can get to the actual plot of Stars.
Even in my youngest memories of watching Sailor Moon I always knew she was obviously the Moon Princess, people need to stop underestimating how Genre Savy kids can be. And knowing doesn't many Crystal Clear Destiny any less impactful, being surprised is not something I value at all.
I Hate 198, I think that whole fake out betrayal was dumb and stupid.
I loved every episode of Netflix Cowboy Bebop.
Episode 132 bugs me, the 90s Anime from the beginning decided to make the age Gap between Usagi and Mamoru larger which makes makes their criticism of the Manga frankly hilarious. And then this episode decides to just lean into that issue and make it impossible to simply ignore.
My favorite episodes not written by Sumisawa are probably Episode 26 and Fractious Friends. But I also really love almsot every episode of the Doom Tree Saga.

Usagi would never two-time someone? Remember the 1st season when she was fantasizing about both Tuxedo Mask and Motoki?
Sato is to Sailor Moon what Brad Kern is to Charmed. We can be grateful for their contributions, but they also created extreme stress on the female creator and repackaged the idea to appeal to a room a male writers and executives. Women and girls writen almost entitely by men with the original vision completely distorted; Sato just stopped before seasonal rot could happen. I'm happy for the people it gave work to as well, but it's saf to think about how the women creators were consistently disrespected by men telling what should be sold to girls.
* Not hating on Sato's work, just his ethics and respect for Takeuchi. She wanted to do the one by one deaths and was told no, but when the men wanted to it was greenlit. 😕
