Episode 154 is extra bad because not only does it force Jupiter and Minako to share a power-up episode, but it's more re-treading their previous power-up episodes. They're paired up in the episode, just like they were back in R vs Petz & Avery, where the 2 of them start off by arguing over a boy. And it's dealing with little kids, just like back during the Doom Tree Arc when Venus upgraded to Venus Meteor Shower. So it's very much doing all of those things at the same time, but much worse.

Since the Fish Eye one even tops Amanda's list, I was surprised the Samurai girl episode from SuperS (139) made none of the three. Not only did it have borderline pedophilia(from Tiger's Eye this time) but also straight up child abuse from the girl's psycho mom that wasn't at all treated with the seriousness it deserved. The only thing going for that episode is the beautiful animation by Ikuko Itoh, otherwise it is horrible and definitely in my Flop 15.
On another note, the Yuichiro "hate" caught me off guard a bit lol, wasn't aware anyone actually dislikes him.
For me, he is somewhat like the Yamcha of Sailor Moon - a eternal loser with a good heart. He always acted respectfully towards Rei, even if she was a total b* to him most of the time, and wasn't even pushy or anything (as far as I remember). Also, Rei was shown to have feelings for him on multiple occasions, most importantly her season 1 death scene, where her final words literally were that she should have kissed him a last time.
I can understand the notion that Rei deserved better than Yuichiro, with him being such a doormat and all, but did she really though (talking about the anime)? She could be pretty egotistical and mean and was seemingly not too pleasant to people around her, like her schoolmates in her R episode. He shouldn't even have put up with her tbh.
Anyway, what I am getting at is that I actually like the Yuichiro farewell episode quite a bit , even if he the whole misunderstanding plot was kind of dumb.
I dunno. For his objectionable as the content can be, it's actually a very good character story and, as you say, gorgeous directing and art in that episode.
Also no apologies for my Yurichiro hate.
I did think about that samurai girl episode once or twice when making my picks, I really should have rewatched it when thinking about this list, because you're right. That's another one where, similar to the Jun Jun episode, I remember it being an incredibly boring, nothingness of an episode. Flop 15 for sure as you put it!
I'm mad that the Tea Ceremony episode wasn't here. Because JEEZ, do I hate that episode!!! I think that's the episode that made me quit sailor moon! Lol

Thank the heavens you mentioned the Fish Eye pedophile episode. I literally still struggle with why this was even necessary because it is not like the child was important to the episodes resolution, it's just really fking weird. The saying of "The Filler in SuperS is much better than the actual plot" is the truth, because it's insane to see how they lose focus of the moral of the story. This leads into issues that I have issues with that beginning arc of Stars because of them deciding to turn Nehelenia back into a child. This is because the entirety of SuperS is promoting the idea of accepting becoming an adult. They change the whole background of the quarter in order to show the idea that growing up isn't scary and you can take control of whatever route you want to take your life... while the Nehelenia Stars arc was emotional, it doesn't make any sense to me!
I actually remember the bridal gown contest episode being my first ever introduction to Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon is a beloved anime here in my country (the Philippines) because the tagalog dub was so casual and colloquial, integrating Taglish (Tagalog and English) and it felt good enough because realistically, that's how Filipino teenagers talk! I remember watching it by chance and I LOVED it. I caught the airing too late because after that I never saw any other tagalog dub episode since then. Seeing it in my series binge caught me by surprise lol I was just pointing at the screen the entire time reciting everything I vividly remembered seeing when I was 7 years old. It's not the best episode, but it's just dear to my heart because it's my first.

It's kind of amazing how SuperS has the best villains, the best soundtrack, the beast animation, the coolest attacks and transformations, but is soooooo fucking awful! Looking back at this season it's like some crazy christian indoctrination for the church of Pegasus lol
Also, LOVE, Fish Eye, she's an icon, she's a legend and she is the moment, now c'mon now, but I have totally blocked ep 143 from my memory and damn! Now I'm sad...
ALSO, also, regardless of redemption later on, the fact that Fish Eye, even being a villain, going after this kid never really being addressed as a reprehensible thing in any way (directly or implied) is terrible in the semioptics of a trans character being a pedophile. Cause in the end it's just treated as like "oh Fish Eye is weird, but i guess that's normal for a character liker her", you know?

I said "ugh, yeah" out loud when Episode 4 was introduced. I skipped it on my recent rewatch and I do not feel bad about it in the slightest.
Fun fact: Episode 4 was only aired once over here in Sweden, because parents (quite fairly, imo) complained about it.
Like I *get* that the episode is trying to make fun of diet culture, but then it just ends with nobody learning anything. It's seriously so low on my list that I even think that the DIC dub *improved it*. 🤯
I disagree with the super episode with yuichiro, it's actually a good episode. For me Sailor moon is at its best when it's a comedy and yuichiro is the king of comedy. The only problem I have with yuichiro is they kept him in the friend zone with rei far too long and he disappeared in stars. There really should have been an episode where he gets relationship advice and clean up his appearance and went out with Rei on a date, I really loved seeing them together even if Rei hid her feeling for him.
These sailor moon videos are always a treat. Maybe we can discuss Sailor Moon more sometime.

I actally think that episode 42 was a good episode. Mostly because it was a Minako episode and she is my favorite. Also I love it when she is more serious for some reason.

Love how much SuperS and Pegasus appear on all 3 lists SuperS really surprised me the first time through just how bad it is. Picks up near the end but Pegasus still drags it down and jesus the first 2/3rds or so lol
I forgot the cops in Minako's backstory are like, grown adults that's weird lol. Idk why I thought that since they're adults with a job but, yeah lol
It's crazy to me that the DIC dub version of the Weight Loss episode is probably the best since they at least tried to make it somewhat about the dangers of dieting irresponsibly/being made to feel like you need to lose weight when you don't. From what I know it's still not good and obviously held back by the fact you can only really change so much about the original and the flaws were bigger than just the script but like, still the *DIC* dub genuinely had a better idea to handle it how does that happen lol. It really is awful all around lol
The Snow White episode being bottom 10 on imdb is so strange to me I really wonder like, why lol. I wonder if it's just people being tired of the memes lol
Amanda's point about Ami vs. Viluy is interesting, like that it basically is the manga chapter but doesn't work with the context. The Witches 5, and most of the henchmen in the manga really, are basically the equivalent of monsters of the day there, which makes it really bizarre because death of a "major" villain in the anime would be a big deal but then here it's like, not lol. I kind of wonder if they just didn't have ideas for Viluy and, the other one, I forget her name (I think the one that splits in 2 actually kind of works as like a "final boss before the actual final bosses" tbh)
Ngl I *kind of* have a soft spot for ep67 just because of how terrible it is. Not enough to put it not in my own bottom 10 or watch it again unless I have to for some reason but like, it's so dumb I kind of couldn't help but laugh at it lol.

I don't hate ep 13, it's not the best but idk, it's so over the top and dumb I have a softspot for it lol, gave some good memes with that video of Mars killing the cops too so I feel like I can't hate it lol
Agree with both your bottom picks SuperS had some bad eps and they were two of the worst, how the hell did the season end up the way it did lol. Glad to see the fisheye's ep called out. As a transwoman myself it made me the ep even more uncomfortable watching then it'd probably have done otherwise. I agree with Amanda it's why the way Fish Eye's, respect? Portrayal? in fandom has made me conflicted. Fish Eye's redemption is really good but I also just, i so badly wish this ep never existed. I may be wrong but I think the sword fighter episode had Tiger'sEye going after a young kid?...why the hell was the trio allowed to be a thing. I've heard part of why SuperS is, the way it is, is because they wanted to go "back to basics" and make the show more, "kiddy" again, but then like why the trio.(lighter note why go back to basics but then ignore the inners lol)
I really like your points too though Kai you worded it really well. It's so, complicated. I love the Trio's redemption and especially Fish Eye's role in that, but like, jesus this episode and the "metaphor" with the mirrors and, jesus lol

Agreed though I'd love if they were longer or at least got to break up the story a bit more for some time. ^^ I still love them though too I think Le Mouvement Final is my favorite Sailor Moon story period at this point it's so well done on like, every level lol

Partway through this so I didn’t want to comment till later but to answer the question asked for #8 I’m guessing EP43 is on the IMDB list because of the DIC dub
They changed the bit with Rei and the moonstick to her taking it (or in her words usagi left it at her place and she never gave it back, I think) and removed that moment of development and I think that depiction of Rei (or “Raye” I guess lol) stuck since it’s how a lot of people see anime Rei’s character. If I had to guess that’s probably why it’s so low on there

I just want to let you know if you have not heard of this from what I looked up on the sailor moon movie trilogy but all three sailor moon movies are from warner bros and village roadshow pictures according to imdb
Enjoying the video for most of the conversation, but Amanda completely missing the point of the Uranus/Neptune/Moon scene of Episode 126 is really rough to listen to. I guess its nice to get somebody with opposing views on the 90s anime, but these takes are... Questionable.
EDIT: Sorry, finished the video and have some thoughts to rant about!
Rei isn't exactly asexual in the manga (although I think you probably meant aromantic here). She is no less interested in boys as Ami and writing off "Casablanca Memories" as the "only time she's ever shown interest and it wasn't even in the main story" doesn't work because you could say the exact same thing about Ami in "Ami's First Love". You also have to take into consideration that the Inners get basically no focus in the manga *at all* so any time they do anything you kind of have to hold on to it. Rei gets four spotlight chapters (her debut, one in Black Moon, one in Infinity, one in Dream) in the main manga and then her own side chapter. I think 1/5 of the only times we spend decent time with her revolving completely around her feelings for a man is pretty significant because it shows that on one of the only times Takeuchi tells a story about her, its about her romantic feelings. I'm not saying I like Yurichirou because I certainly don't, but I don't think giving her a love interest is a departure from a non-existent asexual/aromantic identity.
Saying that SuperS is "objectively a worse version of the Dream Arc story" is just wrong. Comparing the story of the Amazon Trio to the anime and manga, you'd be crazy to suggest the story was better in the manga. Your opinion isn't objective. Definitely a lot of SuperS was fumbled, but the Dream Arc of the manga was pretty darn mid too with *terrible* pacing and an incredibly bland main villain with an absolutely cringey copy-paste of the plot of Sleeping Beauty for a backstory played absolutely seriously. SuperS had far better villains in the Amazon Trio and in my opinion a *far* better final confrontation between Sailor Moon and Nehelenia in SuperS, which the first arc of Sailor Stars expanded on, incorporating elements of Nehelenia's (terrible) manga backstory into a decent tale. Plus you don't get Nehelenia out of absolutely nowhere declaring her love of Endymion as she dies despite literally nothing implying anything like that up until her last breath for some bad attempt at giving her motivation.
I also think the hatred for Fish-Eye in Episode 143 was perhaps overblown. Fish-Eye is attracted to a young boy and its played for comedy because Tiger-Eye and Hawk-Eye are disturbed by it and it is unfortunate that it is the trans character that is involved in this episode (although it kind of has to be the one that goes for guys in the context of the episode due to main plot being ChibiUsa's crush on Pegasus and how that relates to Robert asking her out), but no *actual* SA happens. You can argue about the Amazon Trio being analogous to SA definitely, but Fish-Eye staring into Robert's dreams doesn't actually make her a literal pedophile. Its kinda funny that its the person that prefers the manga that is so enraged by this particular part of the episode, because the manga flat out has Mamoru getting a nosebleed when he sees girls Robert's age (which is a PG representation of getting an erection in manga) and then later on in the chapter, *actually pulls up their skirts to see their panties*, which is... ACTUAL child SA. And just like the anime, its played for laughs, but because its funny that Mamoru is being so horny, not because people are disturbed that Mamoru is literally being a pedophile. I wonder if Amanda has a similar distaste to manga!Mamoru as they do for Fish-Eye because I'd argue manga!Mamoru is way, way worse.
Every time I hear people talk about their favorite and least favorite Sailor Moon episodes, I feel like I might be the only person in the universe whose favorite season is SuperS TT_TT
I do understand some of the criticism, but I genuinely like Chibusa as a main character and the Amazon Trio and Amazoness Quartet are my favorite villains in Sailor Moon by far.
I still enjoyed listening though, and I very much agreed with most of the other picks, especially episode 4.
It's hard because there is actually a ton of great stuff in SuperS. I really do enjoy the villains, the art is _gorgeous_ and Chibiusa is ultimately a good character.
That said, it's pretty hard to label ep 4 as problematic or hard to watch and then not also talk about the Amazon Trio and what they do to their victims...
Did people like Yuurichiro? I didn't hate him like I did Rini but I also didn't like him much. He was terrible dating material.
