The description of how the actor prepped for their role is very similar to how the international C-19 lock downs / quarantines impacted most of us...where we didn't see people and mostly communicated online (if we were lucky enough to be able to work from home).

Not to be THAT guy (Ur not that guy pal, ur not that guy) but you don't put "more" in front of "darker" when you said "more darker". "Stem's voice becomes darker and deeper" works /⁵ down error. It's like saying more better or more smarter. You just say better or smarter. The "er" at the end of the adjective takes the place of a "more" that you'd put before it. But even more smart doesn't really work, as the "er" (smarter/better) is the grammatically correct and more efficient way of writing out that information. Obviously words without an "er" need "more" in front to signify extra of the adjective. Anyways, great comment, I'm just a grammar dick.

Based on how Dead meat described the event, it sounded like he broke his mind in his attempt to wrestle control of his body away from STEM, and STEM was then able to lock him away in a fantasy world as a result. You sweet summer child. I live in Downtown Hicksville, populated by people I wouldn't light on fire for the chance to piss them out. I have friends around the world I've been communicating exclusively through text with for almost a decade.
Really, the only drawback of quarantine for me is that I can't go to 24 hour stores at night to get real food and instead have to pick up my groceries from the local gas station.

I love the cinematography in this movie, especially the fight scenes, the way the camera so energetically follows Grey is just so well done and looks incredible
You see, to Detective Cortez, to her it probably looks like Grey Trace developed Dissociative Identity Disorder because she didn't know he had Stem implanted. And even further when Stem tells Cortez that Grey is in a better place, in his mind, it probably looks even more like Grey has just gone off his rocker to her.
She knows Grey has a computer in his brain because his mom had to have told her. She obviously doesn't know the extent of it, but she was able to deduce that it was controlling him against his will. That's why she says, "this isn't you."

Having your body being kinda forcefully taken over by something or someone is a terrifying concept. It’s scary to imagine completely losing control of your body for a while because something or someone else is in control, and it’s difficult to break free from that control…
I feel like this movie went under the radar. Saw this in the theater knowing nothing about it and was pleasantly surprised. Definitely recommend a watch of this!

I absolutely love the future tech they create for the film. It never feels super beyond reality. Except maybe the guy sneezing out the little nano droids. I'm talking more like the auto house, cars, the table messages. It's all integrated really well.
This movie could have a fantastic game adaptation. Or even a DLC in cyberpunk 2077, it literally fits perfectly.

Thanks for recommending this movie, James. It was really cool even if the ending was dark. I kept hoping Grey would twig to the fact he was in a dream world and pull some last-ditch move to scramble both himself and Stem and thus save the world
One thing I find really funny in this movie is that the futuristic cars are just “look they drive by themselves! They don’t have an emergency manual system if they get hacked… they’re not really particularly safer in any other way…. They don’t even have airbags”
The beginning of the movie honestly felt like Venom, Grey not being in control as his body kills and hurts other people.
But a part of me did like Venom a bit more.

The first fight scene reminds me of venom. Character has to control over their body, look shit scared of whats happening around them and are absolutely beating ass! Upgrade gave it a more convincing take with the camera movement, but both scenes where great

This movie was so good, and highly underrated
Small detail, but when listening with headphones, STEM’s voice sounds like it’s coming from the back of your neck. It’s not quite binaural recording like with something like Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, but it’s moved just enough so that it’s noticeable, more easily putting us in Gray’s headspace.
A great underrated movie by one of my favorites, Leigh Whannell. Logan Marshall-Greene kills it as Grey.

God, Imagine if this movie gets a sequel. I would watch it in a heartbeat.
I’d love a sequel but I’m not too sure how they would follow this film up? If they’ve already killed the only person capable of designing another STEM.

Honestly I think the movie ended fine as it was. People always want a happy ending where the good guy wins in the end but that's not how it always works. Having Grey coming back and beating Stem just because of "muh human willpower" would be lame and cliche as fuck imo.
