    I think it has been schoolyard type stuff, it's embarrassing that Martinez is 30 years old and he's acted like he has.
    But also there are cultural differences, I remember Mourinho talking about beating United with Porto in the Champions League. And he said Ferguson went to their dressing room after the game, congratulated them and wished them luck for the rest of the tournament. Mourinho said he and the squad were blown away because they'd never experienced that because its not the done thing in Portugal.

    So the penalty taker can stutter-step, or hop-skip-jump, or take an ungodly number of small steps, etc. during their run-up, while the goalie has to stay on the line until the moment the ball is hit? Statistically speaking, the odds of scoring from a penalty kick is already a high 80% or so. And to add to all that, you want the goalie to stand there politely and not even move before the ball is kicked? Well, why not just tie their hands behind their back too, while we're at it?!
    Sorry, these pundits don't have a clue! It is absolutely okay for the goalie to do whatever they like to get in the heads of their opponent especially when the jeopardy/odds stacked against them are so high for a penalty kick. I'm not advocating hitting the opponent, but by all means, get in the head of the muppet taking the kick as they will have no hesitation in taking a Panenka to humiliate the keeper, when given half the chance!
    And as for taking the mickey out of M'Bappe, it was in retaliation to M'Bappe saying this prior to the tournament: “The advantage we have in Europe is that we play among ourselves with high-level matches all the time, such as the Nations League,” Mbappé said at the time. “When we arrive at the World Cup, we are ready, whereas Brazil and Argentina do not have this level in South America. Football is not as advanced as in Europe. That’s why at the last World Cups, it’s always the Europeans who win.”
    Disregarding completely the 'European supremacy' aspect of the statement, South Americans have won 10 out of 22 world cups till date. That is a huge percentage given the number of nations/federations in South America vs Europe. Objectively speaking, the level of talent produced by South America is a much higher per capita than Europe despite the massive gulf in money, infrastructure, etc. That's what these pundits should be discussing instead of players taunting each other, which anyone that has played the sport competitively at any level knows is commonplace, and is off the pitch anyway.
    Disclaimer: I'm neither a goalie nor a South American.

    In 2014 German players mock Argentinians in their celebrations. Almost with kind of racist jokes. I didn’t care nor give much importance.
    Now what I hate the most is that when any European mocks, it’s funny. When South American do it, is classless. Why? Double standards and a sense of superiority which is in line with a Nazi ideology.

    • @MisAnnThorpe
      @MisAnnThorpe Před rokem

      Seeing as you're so intent on talking Nazi; which part of the world supposedly provided leading Nazi party members with new identities and the opportunity to live out the remainder of their days unharassed by the likes of Simon Weaselthal? Argentinians have also developed a reputation for "racism". Now whether this is deserved or not, I really can't say - I should imagine that just like in any and every country on earth, some are and some are not - but I do know that there have been a good many black players who've represented Germany but don't ever recall a black player don the blue and whites stripes of Argentina. See how easy it is to play the racism card?!

    • @JerrySeinfeldJFA
      @JerrySeinfeldJFA Před rokem

      @@MisAnnThorpe ha yeah, Argentina was home to some Nazis that escaped after WWII. But you can also mention that Buenos Aires has one of the largest Jew population (outside Israel).
      Want to know why Argentina doesn't have black players? Black people are less than is about 0.4% of the population. Do you think that a country that cares so much about football will lose the chance to include a black world class player!? btw, a bit of history... from 1922 to 1925, instead of segregation, Argentina National Team had a black player: Alejandro de los Santos.

    • @MisAnnThorpe
      @MisAnnThorpe Před rokem

      @@JerrySeinfeldJFA For me, mocking a team you have just defeated, regardless of who is doing it or to whom, shows a distinct lack of respect and I will always feel an aversion to any team which displays such behaviour, whether they be European, African, South American or anything else. As you doubtless know, Argentina wasn't the only South American country to allegedly provide a safe haven and new identities for high ranking Nazis. Then of course, there were the "Nazi" scientists that supposedly went on to work for the British, U.S. and Russian governments. Yes, there is a lot of hypocrisy in the world and the British, North American and Israeli governments have long been amongst the worst offenders.
      Thank you for the information about Alejandro de los Santos. I've just looked him up and that was interesting. Can I ask you in all innocence, if, in your opinion, there is a racial element to the hostility between Argentinians and Brazilians?

    • @JerrySeinfeldJFA
      @JerrySeinfeldJFA Před rokem

      @@MisAnnThorpe I can't speak for everybody, but in my opinion the only "hostility" between Argentina and Brazil is on football. Like an old rivalry. Also, Argentina and Brazil are the main countries in South America for many sports, so both sides normally compete against each other in continental finals. That's all there is. I don't see a racial element tbh. Argentines love to visit Brazil on holidays and really admire how they enjoy life. Many Brazilians also visit Argentina or even go to University in Argentina cause it's free or cheaper. Neymar is loved in Argentina cause he's good friends with Messi for example.
      Back to the point, football has it's unique"culture" sort of speak... Fans normally have chants to mock opponents, and celebrations normally get "over the top". Doesn't mean is right, but it is how it is in every corner of the world. European media just like to bring the spotlight to these "issues" when someone else is the "offender". I didn't see anyone crucifying Mbappe when he made an offensive statement about South American football... or when Van Gaal and Van Basten disrespected Messi before the game. Or when Dutch players were talking to Argentines that were walking to take their penalties. If you didn't know about these things is because you're basically proving my point.
      German players mock Argentines in their celebration when they won in 2014 and i don't think media was upset about it...
