    About Me...
    I started model engineering and building model stationary steam engines in 2015, after constructing a small engineering workshop in my back yard, I use a Myford ML7 hobby lathe, a Dore Westbury milling machine, along with a pillar drill, band-saw and the usual hand-tools associated with hobby engineering and enjoy making model engines and general tool-making and metalworking. Nearly all of my engines are scratch-built without drawings, from available bar-stock, starting from an initial idea and allowing the design to evolve throughout the build process. I do occasionally use drawings from the web, as a basis for a design, and then modify it to suit my needs, using mostly metric dimensions, but often mix metric and imperial. I spend countless hours in my workshop working on a single engine, and much frustration can be involved, but all this is eventually offset by the pleasure and excitement of seeing my model engines take shape and eventually come to life. My shed is also my sanctuary, somewhere I can go and forget about the worries of everyday life, to occupy my mind and hands with something creative and fulfilling, where I am free from distraction and interruption. Very good video, it was interesting to hear how you designed the duplex twin... I like the conical springs, they are a nice finishing touch to your engines.
    Take care.

    the cranks are 180 degrees apart? and the engines about 20 degrees. i will try and build one and see how it goes. thanks Ade... our wood pellet central heating boiler is in my workshop so always a toasty sanctuary.

    Good work, I love the simplicity of your engines. I think that these are an ideal intro into model engineering. The fit and finish of your creations is excellent. There are far too many channels demonstrating poor technique, which encourages sloppy work. Be interesting what you decide to do next. I am at that stage of “in between projects” I have been enjoying some quick and simple engineering or perhaps displacement activity before tackling something challenging. By the way, I still put holes in the wrong place and scrap parts, despite measuring twice or three times.

    interesting ....
    i would have been afraid that the three millimeters difference in height would block the steam inlet and outlet. Because the distance describes a radius on the outside diameter of which the steamports of the components lie, and the change in the radius affects the angle of the cylinder for the valve function. But certainly forgivable on this scale ..... grwat work and very informative! stay healthy Ade !!!

    • @AdeSwash
      @AdeSwash  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, I did think about that being a problem also, so I added a small countersink to the cylinder inlet to upen the diameter of the mouth, not sure if it was needed but just thought it may help with the problem

    Have you ever considered a
    radial wig-wag ?
    The design wouldn’t be that much of a departure just a whole lot more parts.

      @AdeSwash  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Joedy860, I have often thought about a radial, but just haven't yet come up with or seen a design idea that I am happy with. I will let this one simmer on the back-burner of my brain until the time is right. Best Regards. Ade

    `Thank you I enjoyed your site and engine plans I down lowed one then realized they are mm I'm in the US so not done much with mm do you have them converted I know a silly question but I so impressed with your work I have to ask
    thanks keep up the excellent work

    • @AdeSwash
      @AdeSwash  Před 2 lety

      Hi Allen, I dont have inch plans, but there are only a few dimensions which are critical and this is the distance between the axle and the pivot rod, and the port holes. These convert to 2 21/32 and 15/32 or 2.660” and 0.470”. The distance between the port centres convert to 15/64. As for the cylinder bore 19/32 is 15mm.
      The rest of the sizes are arbitrary, so the axle could be ¼” and the bearings ½”, outside cylinder 1”x ¾”. The rest of the components and chassis make to approximate conversions, it should still run fine

    Superb! I really am going to have to have a go at building one of these soon.
    Could the 3mm be due to you measuring the standard distance but not accounting for the angle offset? So it should have been a PCD measurement from the centre of the crankshaft rather than a straight parallel distance from the centreline. Something that's tripped me up recently on a measurement of 67mm from a centre, have me about 4mm of error.
