Joe,
that was an amazing journey and has to be the best finished D10V I have ever seen. As I said when I sent you the kit I have seen lots of 10Vs built on CZcams but as far as I know nobody has built the twin cylinder D10V. As usual museum quality build but with lots of tips and novel methods thrown in for good measure. I have built one and wish mine had been to that standard. The pleasure in your voice as you built it proved sending it to you was a good move and I certainly got as much pleasure watching the progress as you appeared to from constructing it. A fantastic job and the usual Joe Pie quality. Thank you for the pleasure the video series bought me and made sending the kit a good move. Keep safe and healthy.

Thank you for the most gracious gift Steve. I had a great time building it. Stay well.
Thank you for sending it to Joe. I greatly appreciate your generosity which allowed this content to be made. I think it's safe to say that many others appreciate it too.
Sir Thanks for sending Joe the kit. Class move for sure.
The way it runs so slowly and sounds so regular is a big part of my enjoyment. The way the parts were machined and the logical train of thought to make sure it’s accurate is just wonderful to watch. There can’t be too many built as well as this.
Thanks. This engine came out nice. I have to do the reverse gear setup on it now.
From Kurtis at CEE making really big things to Joe Pie making really small things, my Fridays are complete. Thank you Mr Pie for your skills and wisdom.
I second that!
Ditto of the previous gentleman, "Excellent series and well done sir! Thank you!"
I love that you referenced Keith Appleton. After him, you maybe my second best "grandfather" figure, he does have his wonderful nighttime storybook accent after all.
I may hire him to narrate my videos. :) His voice reminds me of when my kids watched Thomas the Tank.
Not only smooth running but a feast for the eyes as well. Very well done Joe. You deserve to be proud of this project.
Thank you Joe for sharing the adventure of building this engine with the world.
Likely just a coincident, Union Pacific Bigboy 4014 pushed a stalled freight train over Blair Hill in Blair Nebraska yesterday.
They don't come any better built, a pleasure to behold.
What a joy it is to see this one completed and running SILKY SMOOTH. Great build series. Looking forward to the next one!
Absolutely beautiful work. There are much more efficient machines now days but those old devils would run forever with very little maintenance. I worked over 40 years in a steam power plant where we had a few reciprocating pumps, turbine driven pumps and steam turbine generators. Good to see the tradition carried on. Thanks Joe.
You definitely need to include your makers mark and the date on this engine. A little artwork on the steam chest covers would be my choice. Well Done Joe! I enjoyed watching from start to finish!
The flywheel sits low because it’s a marine engine. They’re designed to sit as low as possible to keep the weight down in the boat & the flywheel will sit between the wooden bearers that the engine sits on.
I’ve restored a few vintage Stuart Turner marine 2-stroke engines & they all had low flywheels too.
Beautiful work as always Joe.
That’s a work of art.
I’d love to have that sitting on my place chuffing away.
But I’m in awe of your machining skills which have made this unit possible.
Beautiful Job Joe, I used to build models like this but in 2013 I lost everything in the Black Forest CO wildfire and at age 60 didn’t have the heart to start replacing a lifetime of tools. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you work, you are an artist in your profession
Many thanks.
Congratulations and thank you for a wonderful series which will be a classic reference for all engine builders for years to come.
You are not the only one with a big smile 🙂
What a beauty. Excellent work!
This series of videos has taught me so many tricks and clever ways to use the tools at hand. Great close-up camera work and audio capture throughout the series. Thanks for investing your time to make valuable videos like this, very helpful.
I'm glad thats your take away from these.
Joe my friend called me after rebuilding his 1905 White Steam Car engine. I heard it run on air over the phone I think I was first one to hear it after him. Black Bess his 1905 White took first in 2014 Concour De Elegance. You should have a permanent grin after building that! A true Masterpiece you have built!
First at the Concours De Elegance is a big deal. Wow.
My dad put together a single-cylinder version of this model many years ago prior to his passing. I keep it on my desk as a nice reminder of him. Interesting seeing this model come together.
Thats a nice token to remind you of your Dad.
Next step........add reversing gear. Beautiful work sir. I thoroughly enjoyed this series.
That is such a treat to watch run in low RPM
So many helpful tips showcased during the series, the approach, order of operations and the finished project speak for themselves. Great build and enjoyed every minute.
If someone is watching this and hasn't seen the building process, they have no idea what went into making this. Beautiful project.
Beautiful build. Now go enjoy a couple more well deserved "Locktite dipping trays".😉
Superb. Hopefully someone at Stuart will see this series of masterclass build methods. Who knows, they may even send more kits.
I would welcome more Stuart kits. This was tedious, but fun.
Good morning Joe, I note the "exposed pin" watchers won the day, I shall submit to the popular opinion as it all looks excellent. On the timing of the steam admission and exhaust there are lots of very good old books on this subject, once set up at 90 degrees the fine adjustment is called Lap and lead, most vertical engines have a little extra lead to compensate the inertia on the down stroke. Thanks for the build. Ray.
That's a very smooth run. Really nice.
And if Keith Appelton doesn't know, I don't think anybody else does :)
Joe, what a great job, its a pleasure to see a craftsman at work,, thank you for enabling us all to see you at work ,, regards Frank 😊
Happy to do it Frank.
Brilliant engineering Joe... and kudos for mentioning Keith A. He's a steam engine guru as well as being a great musician, film maker and recording engineer.
Few things on CZcams make me smile. This one did... Well done! Would love to see a steam pressure vessel build to power this and maybe even drive some other pieces using the traditional methods of a steam powered shop.
This, Stuart D-10 steam engine would be the BEST built of this model ever done.. The craftsmanship & though you show to the process leaves me gobsmacked ... LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT 👌🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Excellent job Joe, great workmanship and also great job you did with the tooling fixtures.
Fantastic what we need now is a shaft pulley and belt system to drive all the machines at once. New project? 😊
It needs to be done!
I would love to see that! It’s a dream build I’ve daydreamed about for years.
Yes!!!
Needs a boiler too...or did I miss a project?
Also, a very small apprentice
I have 3 more machines to build first.
This series has been an absolute pleasure to watch & the final build video is just awesome to see it finally all together & running.
The series of builds on the miniature machines that you have built is a testament to your skills & training , keep up the great work.
So what is going to be your next build?
Thanks Joe the whole project was like reading beautiful poetry. Especially the ending. Thanks again well done.
This is THE most precisely machined miniature engine I have ever seen; even the inside is machined smooth. Great job, Joe.
Thanks 👍
WA HOO !! I’m sure my smile was as big as yours watching this come together and run . Can’t tell you how much i appreciate all your effort in not only building this to perfection but also taking all of us along for the ride . Thanks again
My pleasure.
Wow, ran straight away.... awesome work. Keith won't be needing to fix this one, hee.
23:21 Dear Joe! What a great built. Gorgeous little machine. ❤️Thank you for this nice series. o7 Ulf
Very nice! Sounds pretty good too! You mentioned Keith Appleton and my thought was at this stage of first running, his engine would be dripping oil everywhere.
Beautiful. I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself perfect
Great build! I think it would be neat to put on clear polycarbonate head and valve covers so you can see the pistons and valves working! Just a thought. Thanks for sharing the whole process. I enjoyed the journey!
Beautiful!!! I'm impressed with how quiet it is.
Also, thank you for the shot of all the disassembled finished pieces. That was a reminder to me of how much work went into this project.
Hope you got far more satisfaction than I did just watching the final assembly. You sir, earned it.
Such a great build series! What's next? Thanks for showing us how it's done right!
Overwhelming !!! Brings a tear to my eye !!! Absolutely beautiful !!! Thank you Joe.
So old construction but still so amazing to se and hear it running.Indeed a very very beautifully job you have done.Cant wait to see what next would be!
I love the simplicity of the design.
Wonderful videos. Lovely engineering.
When it was running, I didnt realise the phone getting closer, until it hit my nose, I was so enjoying the sound and motion of parts.
Surprised at the lack of vibrations.
CREDIT where its due, THANKS Joe.
Many thanks.
I'm with you, I could watch it all day, too! Thanks for sharing the project.
Ain't it nice when a plan comes together? That came out as good as it could have. Now you have a power source for all the other machines, would look cool with a line shaft setup driving them
Being a complete loop is important. That’s me okay then 🤪
Man, that first run was absolutely sweet!
hit it on the first try. I was pleased.
OH NO, Mexric cooties. 4.5mm cooties, YKES!!! Very nice to see it together and running well. A well done job and very interesting to watch the whole process of creating this beauty.
Nice work Joe. I have the same engine but I got it pre machined. That was in the mid seventies.
I still haven't got round to fitting the reversing gear yet, dont want to rush things.
Cheers
It looks so smooth when it's running!
Happy day Joe! FIRST CLASS job. And may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest tonight!
It's always a pleasure to see all the pieces come together into a work of art. But, also kind of sad because the series is over! What are you going to entertain us with next Joe?!? Great job! You're a true craftsman!! 👏🏻👏🏻
100% worth it following this build. I've learned several things about setups and ideas on machining. Thanks a million Joe!!!
You bet.
Build a boiler, go on, go on build a boiler. Really out of your comfort zone but good fun.
Very nice little motor. WELL DONE , and thank you again for all the machining and fixturing tips and tricks !!
Wow !! Joe it’s the best D10 I have ever seen built , the quality, precision, and care in making this steam engine was only over taken by your great talent and experience for perfection . Your videos and Comments have made each build exciting entertaining and amazing, thank you once again for your time ,knowledge and Patience and all your videos, looking forward to your next adventure. Thanks Mark !
Thanks Mark.
Thanks for sharing another great build. Your attention to detail and precision is the best I've ever seen. You make small parts look easy.
Nice job Joe! Not all of them start that easily or sound that good, I've known a few squeaky clunkers in my time!
Now you really ought to build a boiler! It's not that hard, and I'd love to see you tackle the essential gubbins that go with a live-steam setup (in-line oilers, water injector, valves, seperators etc) there's some good material there for future videos, as often the supporting equipment need tighter tolerances than the engine itself.
Whatever the future holds, it'll be worth watching i'm sure!
CONGRATS!!!! That engine is running like a Swiss Watch and/or whatever you consider to be a thing of beauty and precision! 🙂
Joe, of all the “machining”channels I subscribe to, yours consistently is the most enjoyable, entertaining, and informative! I can’t wait to see what your next project will be!
It lives! Wonderful job Joe and thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Joe, you are a joy to watch! Your passion and years of knowledge and wisdom come out. Just a pleasure to watch you performing your craft and trade. And watching this series has been a treat. I could sit and watch this model run all day as I've watched this series from beginning to end, with the ups and downs and corrections along the way. From one tradesman (I'm a third generation Locksmith) to another (you are a Mechinest) well done my friend! Can't wait for the next project you film
Thanks. The next project is still unknown.
Joe thats a beautiful engine. My homemade 2 cylinder Empire steam engine is on here. I milled frames and silver soldered together. Watching your vids is helping me greatly. I think you set the bar on this one!
outstanding build, Maybe a walnut wood base with rubber feet
Beautiful Joe. Also, you proved once again concerning Stuart prints...trust but verify. 😊
Absolutely fantastic again. I watched all of the series and am in awe of the precision and clean cutting of all of the pieces.
Wonderful. Thanks
Joe-What is even more impressive( as if this build wasn't) was YOU built a video library for all those who might want to attempt the project. So Thankful you spent the time shooting editing and sharing this project with all of US!
Absolutely beautiful, & it runs like a Swiss watch!
I feel like you got through this build quite quickly, I’m sure it felt a lot longer to you, but I was enjoying it so much the time just flew by. Every episode has been exceptional.
Nice job. It's been fun to follow along. Can't wait till the next project!
What a superb engine and build standard. It runs like a Swiss watch. Keith Appleton always tries to get the steam or air to enter the cylinders just before TDC of the piston. This gives a cushioning effect to the piston and makes the engine run a little quieter, especially on engines with a little wear. With the precise tolerances you have I don't see you getting any knocking. Keith also has good success using a silicone O rings as a piston ring. If you feel like playing a bit you could make some pistons with O rings to give it a try.
Thanks for all the wonderful episodes and the beautiful videos... What an amazing project... What an amazing job explaining all the do and don't to help all the folks who might give this project a try ... As for me... I am to old and my hands are too Shakey for all the small parts .. but that said I thoroughly enjoyed watching a true professional do an absolutely amazing and detailed job... I truly can't possibly thank you enough for an outstanding video series .... Thanks for sharing ... Please stay safe and well ...
21:30 I think I can watch this for hours ❤
Hey Joe, That is soooo cool. Congratulations on a great build and letting us join in. I have learned so much. Your craftmanship is amazing. Thank You
Amazing job!!! The sound put a smile on m face!!!
Mine too.
An absolute stunner Joe Pie, like a fine timepiece...enjoyed this series immensely...sad to see it come to a close.
It runs like a Swiss watch!
What a piece of art……that is just fantastic Joe Pie, your right, it is hypnotic, you can watch that machine all day… Thank you so much for having this great website and your knowledge of machines. Again thank you, Mike
Good morning from Oz.
I watched this over breakfast, an amazing project completion.
It has been a pleasure to watch the many episodes in its production and completion that I have enjoyed immensly.
I am a few years older than you, born in the late 40's when we had steam trains and many industries still used steam engines for their power. Brisbane's water supply was pumped by steam engines till around the mid 1940's, country saw mills had steam engines to run their mills. I still love to see the few remaining steam trains that operate on tourist outings and hear the characteristic sound of a steam engine running.
I can fully understand your joy at seeing it completed and running.
How does this model scale to the others you have made eg like the lathe and drill press? It would be nice to have them set up, compete with line shafts, in a display.
Well done Joe.
Regards Dennis.
Another Oz here and you've said it well.
@@tonywilson4713 Clearly you enjoyed it as well. I am not sure I would have the patience to do it, and I can relate to Joe's comments about those small parts.
Excellent, nice smooth action at low revs too. 👍
Well done Sir. Thank You for the time and efforts to share this with us.
That extra port is for locating a displacement lubricator.
It´works,it works.Amazing machine,Joe.Thank you.
Excellent series and well done sir! Thank you!
Great build and review, thanks you for the many shop gems and mentorship as you progressed in the build
Thats an amazing machine! I could listen to that sound all day long. Thanks for doing that one.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Incredible! These are the best entertaining and educational videos on CZcams! Thank you for sharing with us.
Beautiful! I love seeing it run. Masterfully done.
It's beautiful. I have not owned a TV now for many years, I'll never go back. Thank you Joe Pie.
Fantastic work! For a hobbyist like myself, your involved commentary and shop-tips are extremely appreciated and helpful :)
Glad to help.
All I can say is awesome craftsmanship.
That’s awesome very nice to see it running. I enjoyed watching you do the machine work on those little parts.
Very good serious, so professional. I machined a Sturet #4 when I was in high school. I still run it It got me my first job in a machine shop.
Great job! I'm about to build my first steam engine model soon, so this series gave me a ton of helpful ideas and techniques.
Thank you Joe for another great build! Honestly you are amazing at how easy it appears these projects are for you and how accurate they turn out. . Just goes to show your knowledge and expertise. And your customers are lucky to have you doing their work. Gatlin gun next?
Now we're talking.
Absolutely beautiful piece of work, Joe!! Congratulations on a super job and presentation. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure.
very nice Series Joe !
Chalk up another work of art Joe, cant wait to see what's next.
As usual, a beautiful machine built by an expert machinist. I don’t know if I would paint it. I kinda like the raw metal. Maybe an oil wipe on the cast parts to keep them from rusting?
One thing Keith Appleton does after an engine build or overhaul is to crank up the air pressure and run the engine at warp speed for a bit to make sure parts don’t fly off. But this engine looks great running slow.
