- Eckenkar is a global organization that’s operated since the 60s, however, relatively little is known about the cult and its practices. It has multiple locations in LA, including a branch in Culver City and Marina Del Rey, both of which are perpetually closed and never appear to have any customers. Jo and Hannah set out to shed some light on the mystery of what Eckankar is by speaking to current members of the cult, one a former school teacher and a man in Nigeria.

The whole concept of Eckankar is to open your heart to the divine love of God through giving back to life, through spiritual meditative exercises and some awesome spiritual tools that gives an individual control of their life, as in you are able to view your challenges from a much higher viewpoint or awareness and handle day to day problems that may arise. It's giving me peace of mind and joy. Allowing me to be a good example here on earth. I live in LA, the Culver City ECK Center had been down for renovations, so we went to the LA Center at the time.

What about Jesus. Do you believe in him? He's the only way to God many deceivers have entered into the world thereby we know we are In the last times. He's the way, the truth and the life. You don't get to know God through spiritual exercises but through faith in Jesus Christ.
I met a woman many years ago who told me a rather extraordinary story of how she discovered HU and Eckankar. She was strolling along a fairly low-traffic street one evening, when she all of a sudden felt enveloped by a wave of love. It was so profound, she looked around to see where it might be coming from. She saw nothing, but noted that the nearest building--which was closed at the time--had a sign that said Eckankar.
She decided to come back when it was open, to see if there might be any connection to her experience of feeling love as she passed by. Turns out that at the very time she was strolling by on that evening, there was a group of Eckists inside singing the HU Song. The amount of love that it brought into this world is what she experienced. Not only did she decide to start singing HU, but she went on to becoming a member of Eckankar.

If you have never had a *_the_*_ 'white light'_ experience, you could easily stay skeptical about ALL religions or metaphysical beliefs about having a soul or there being a higher force like God....
I had such an experience totally by accident. I was trying to get to sleep and just letting my mind wonder... i found myself walking on a cobblestone road, like an old European village and looking at the gas-lamps that lined the road... I started to fixate on one of these lamps and as i did, the light from the lamp got brighter and _brighter_ and *_brighter!_*
It ended up getting brighter than the brightest thing you have ever seen and for a second i expected it to hurt my eyes but then in the next moment i was enveloped in the most bright, most pure white light - It's INDESCRIBABLE, how bright it is but then... the FEELING and awareness - PURE 100% UNCONDITIONAL LOVE AND FEELING ABSOLUTELY, TOTALLY AT ONE WITH EVERYTHING AND a 'KNOWING'... it's... it's bewildering!....
From that moment on, i knew what ppl were saying was, in fact, TRUE....

For you to know about a religion, sect or belief, you need to investigate deeper than what you presented here. There is a major gulf between belief and experience!
I have seen addresses in books for Eckankar centers that went out of use following the court cases that culminated in 1985 to ban who was called The Mahanta, the Living ECK Master till the August 1983 board meeting.
It might be better to label religion as decayed and resurrected to match the standard prophet/sent one theory of the West and East.
Eckankar seems to draw in comparative religion people and those limited by conservative religion.
It speaks of karma and spiritual laws; instead of commandments and sin. Some like those terms better.
Eckankar sends information to put the corporation in your will and other finances, after joining.
Eck seems to be dying out. What I respect about them is that they never seem to be obsessed with money really, I’ve got free stuff from them in the past and I like their universalist perspective too.
