WOW ZIV!! this is Pedro Eustache... I AM HONORED BY THIS! And... I AM A SERIOUS WIND SYNTHESIST (since more than 40
years)... and I am one of your Patreons). BTW,, besides world winds I also play many synths live touring with both "Hans Zimmer Live" & now in Europe with "The World if Hans Zimmer")... THANKS FOR THIS!! GOD BLESS YOU!!
whoa!! hey, pedro!! if you look at the comment made an hour after yours, I was just telling my personal anecdotes about you in my comment!! & then I start looking to see what else folks are saying here, & yours is the very first comment I come across!! wow!! bravo, good sir!! I'm really pleased for you. you are such a dynamite musician, & such a sweet soul of a human being. & I know your faith is plenty big enough to move mountains. so, I say to you... may the goodness of this world continue to bless you, & continue using you as an instrument for spreading that blessing as you have been doing for so many years..... bravo!! & bright moments.....
It takes a lot of talent to make such nice sounds come out of a stick of wood!
@@fallprecauxionsmusicThanks for your more than kind words! Truly appreciate!! God bless you my friend!!
@@ToyKeeperthanks so much! God. bless you!!
I am honored right back to have you here - thanks for your support and for being such an inspiration!
pedro eustache was one of the very first musicians I met when I moved to los angeles, back in 1998, & started working at a record store. he came in shopping & we got into some sprited conversation. he invited me to come see him perform with alex acuña & a bunch of other world class musicians. of course, I went. & of course, they were amazing(!). many years later, I bumped into him again when he was playing a gig with a cellist friend of mine. (they were playing with an american sitar master.) I spoke to pedro again that night & he didn't even seem bored when I forced him into reminiscing with me. such a SUPER nice & BIG SPIRITED human being pedro is!! I'm pleased to hear that he's the one who played this duduk part that everybody keeps raving about. ;-) & it's a really fun zero degrees of separation type of thing to hear his name mentioned so many times here in loopopland. yaaay!!
What a wonderful coincidence! I just got back from seeing Dune 2 on Imax and happen to have a 2600M on my desk. Great movie and phenomenal soundtrack. I'm going to try this patch out this weekend!
You had me at "DUNE" and duduk. Since Peter Gabriel's "Passion" OST featured it, that instrument has been a haunting one for me. Oh, and since you obviously want to wiggle the keys... gotta get an Osmose! 😉
Some Modeling synths and a µFreak controller combinations work pretty well too!
Movie of the year. It's refreshing to see you exploring without the concept of reviewing . Cheers buddy.
Thanks! If people watch'em I'll make'em :)
I’m loving this short form guide, I’ll be giving this a go with my Matriarch, reckon I can get the noise outside the filter nicely. Thank you
@@Jin-Hu thanks and for sure re the noise - try also exploring perhaps some external drive module/effect too
@@loopop good call, got a decent noise source in my modular hmmmm, actually got a couple nice oscillators there too, ok so I’m going to try this twice.. at least
not as refreshing if the reviews are going to be less common but sometimes life happens I assume
love how you explore the different options....so much fun
This is a treat, thanks for sharing!
Wow, so much to learn from you and appreciate ❤
great stuff! and wow, such a beautiful old synthesizer
Very inspiring patch, and beautiful music. It covers many things at the same time in a very musical way.... and it's not triggering my GAS. really LOVE that thanks
Thank you! I love the duduk sound so I will patch this on my 2600 Mini Meanie by The Human Comparator.
I've been watching a lot of Anthony Marinelli vids and his fondness the ARP 2600 is really making me want one, so this is just adding to the GAS 😂
It's quite a capable synth
Yes Loopop I too loved Dune 2, we are dune dudes
This was really fun to watch - I patched it on a 2600 emulation following along just now and was able to pretty easily, following around and just with sight! Thanks so much!!
Great, my pleasure! Which one?
@@loopop The CA2600 - I picked it up for free a while back and like the simplicity of their licensing/downloading.
I saw that Vanity Fair video of Zimmer discussing Dune 2! So seeing my favorite synth CZcamsr recreate that iconic duduk on an Arp 2600..? Yes, please, and thank you!
Also very, very similar to a lead sound on several early Vangelis albums, eg Soil Festivities.
this coming out my blown-out speakers is something else
Very nice!
Behringer has an awesome video of Pedro geeking out and using their 2600 with a midi wind cotroller. I love this song and the heart that Pedro puts in it! Definitely a stand out like Mesa from BR2049.
What a pleasant surprise my 2600M arrived last week.
Is the oscillator tracking ok? Heard of a few (mine included) which have issues.
The 2600 design is a classic!
@@mikemeengs5720 didn't say it wasn't, but my 2600m has issues and I know I'm not the only one
It's an iconic synth.@@ConstantLittleGhost
Thanks!
Thanks for the tips. Been trying to create this instrument on many different synths, but don't like any yet. Will keep trying, each attempt is a learning experience.
My pleasure - don't get too frustrated, capturing all the nuances of this instrument with a regular subtractive synth is probably an impossible mission - this is more of an homage to the instrument, soundtrack and people who made it
Yes, I understand, like making a piano on a subtractive synth. I am going to try designing on the Kurzweil VAST architecture next, I have 4 pedals, AT, and mod/pitch assignable live modulation. @@loopop
"I didn't see this coming" would be at the top of the "Major Understatement Pyramid."
does the keystep have aftertouch? you wobble your finger. or is that just hainbaching? (cute playing antiques with no sound consequence)
LOL yes it does otherwise the patch tip would be a big lie! (which it isn't of course)
Nicely done. This fits right in with my current obsession with all things Dune. I dialed it up easily on a CA2600. One thing I did differently was to try a narrow rectangular wave rather than the sawtooth. It puts it more into that English horn/oboe vibe, which is fitting, as the Duduk is a double reed instrument. Either way, it's a lovely sound. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks! I actually wanted to mention that in the video but forgot since I stuck with the sawtoooth... a narrow pulse does indeed sound a bit more similar in the highs but loses some of the bass which is why I ended up with the saw. Certainly a good alternative option
It all works. If you think about it, a duduk has such a wide double reed, it's close to the size of a clarinet, which is a single reed, but makes more of a square wave sound. I like the sawtooth as well. It's always a fun rabbit hole to try to emulate a real instrument with subtractive synthesis. Now I'm going to try using oscillator one to modulate the tremelo that osc 2 is doing on the filter. It needs to vary a bit, and not be the exact same speed all the time.

Glad to see Im not the only one who wiggles their finger when the tone has a vibrato on it :D
This keybed has aftertouch and the patch responds to it with extra vibrato
Pedro Eustache will be present at the SynthFest France 2024 19/20/21 of April in Nantes. 3 Dune 2 musicians will talk and perform about their work.
Old synth?!? This is my new synth…. not newest, my newest is Moog Model D 😂
Beautiful patch and sound Loopop!
Ha thanks yeah "50 year old synth with a modern recreation and and several clones" wouldn't have fit in the title
😊 most cool about “old” synths is to be able to recreate what you hear by what see. You’re rocking in most detailed and truthful geareviwes, Zev. Inspiring shoutout like this is very moving to make music, thanks!
This reminds me of the synth passages at the end of Jacob's Ladder by Rush
The soundtrack was amazing.
Nice 👍
THIS is why I Subd THIS Channel!!!... BRAVO ✨💫✨ 🍺.
. !!!!!! Nice Work as always!
Thanks! I actually couldn’t find the preamp input on the Arturia one, let me know if you find it, I didn’t have a lot of time to research… passing the VCF output through the preamp is pretty critical for this patch to work nicely
@@loopopLooks like you would need to sidechain it from an external source, but the plugin doesn't allow you to route back to itself internally.
Aside from that though, I wasn't able to get Arturia's 2600 to sound right at all. Getting the FM even in the ballpark is uh... tricky.
Well we now have a wishlist feature for V4!
On it… @@loopop
I was able to finally get it pretty close, but yeah -- without the pre-amp fizzle, it definitely doesn't have the same magic to it.
What a beautiful old synth.
You pulled that off really well.
Sounds fantastic.
What about this crazy idea?....
Like a violin flutes vary in volume and vibrato as they are played to create the feelings of the human player.....
If the keys could be replaced with metal pads a la Emyra2 and Lyra8 that are pressure sensitive and also linked to vibrato then you could emulate that even better?
I saw you wavering your fingers on the keys as your mind wanted to musically do this.
Only an idea.
You are an expert and I am a nobody but sometimes I get crazy ideas.
Thanks so much for the vid loopop. You are legend.
Thanks! As I explain in the video I actually to impact the sound when I wiggle my fingers - aftertouch is connected to vibrato
@@loopop
Sorry Loopop...I missed that!
I am a bit deaf.
I think you should make more fun ideas that you came up with if you'd want to share!
I don't want do detract from the overall awesomeness of all this but just the idea of setting the Keystep to mod out the after touch to another CV is huge.
Also reminds me Arrival movie)
would this work on a 2600 vst?
if you can route the VCF to the preamp it should. The arturia VST doesn't have this feature, but a commenter said the cherry audio one does
No baliset in the films?
All the Gurney Halleck stuff like that was cut.
Yeah, no synths new coming out, eh?! This Moog Mirror, or wherever it is, can’t come fast enough … ⌛️
"we can hans it" 😂
I really enjoyed that. Next do one with the OB-6 :)

Perfect patch, you can only learn to speak Zimmer in german :-)
Sorry, but that doesn't sound like Duduk.
