    Just a note for those like me who followed the directions but did not manage to make the gate work properly : Be CAREFUL to pull up the slider knobs EXACTLY as ralph is showing on the video, in the right side, ie : bring VCF(Audio) and AR(Cntrl) all the way UP (VCA section), and the VCA(Audio) slide UP as well (Mixer Section). (I scratched my head for about an hour before realizing I was bringing UP the VCF up but not the VCA, hence the gate trigger having absolutely no effect 😅)
    I am still struggling to have the same setup now but with the ADSR section though - still getting weird behaviour. I guess I'll figure it out after sticking to it for some time (still rusted after a couple of years away from synthesis )

Or does the trigger need to be of a smaller length (as the name implies)? Then I would need to convert the gate to a trigger somehow.... maybe there is something on the 2600 that can do this? Very cool video. I have a question. Does the 2600 have a way to make sequences and arpeggios on it's own without an external sequencer? I see a lot of videos of it running sequences, but they're not really saying where they're coming from.

    • @RalphBaumgartl
      @RalphBaumgartl  Před 2 lety +1

      The 2600 doesn't have a genuine Sequencer module on board. But you can patch some kind of sequence or Arpeggio with the S&H module and Voltage Processor. Greetings, Ralph

    Why into the S&H clock and not the gate or trig in?
    And can you check that the ADSR slider on the VCA only responds in the last 25% of its travel? It does on my B2600 and it’s a little annoying!

    • @RalphBaumgartl
      @RalphBaumgartl  Před 3 lety

      Hello Dan! The S&H Gate connection is working properly on both Synths, the ARP2600 and the Barp2600. When I go through the Gate input it is not working properly on either Synth. It seems as if the ADSR is not fully triggered. On the Barp2600 that’s maybe because of the Gate-In threshold of +4V. But that’s only my assumption. As to your other question, I haven’t experienced the ADSR/VCA issue when having the Keystep attached via Midi. And with the CV/Gate connection I have checked it yet…Have a good start in the new week! Cheers, Ralph

      Hello Kriptek, please watch this video here too czcams.com/video/MTf10H0KWDU/video.html
      That’s another way to make an external sequencer connection to the 2600. The 182 sequencer has a +5V Gate. Try both ways for the connection. The Behringer 2600 usually requires a +10V Gate, but depending on the 182 Trigger/Gate output it may work. If not then you need a Voltage Converter Module or you can also try to dabble with the 2600 Preamp to boost the signal. There's only one VCF - VCA signal path on the 2600. You can route the VCO's separately through the VCF and VCA and then feed them separately into the mixer, but they are still going to be triggered by the same Gate. To have true independence you need external modules or 2600 Synth. Greetings, Ralph

    Thanks for the great and very helpful vids, Ralph. One question: how would one go about syncing the Sample & Hold (INT CLOCK) to the master Ableton clock? What would be the protocol? Must one send CV via say, a Beatstep, and send a pulse to the INT CLOCK? If so, how would that be done exactly? Any advice much appreciated!

    • @RalphBaumgartl
      @RalphBaumgartl  Před 4 měsíci

      A Pulse external signal yields the best results. You have to plug it into the External Clock Input of the S&H. In this video here I was using the Sync Signal (it's a pulse) from the Korg Electribe to sync the S&H module of the 2600 Synth.
      czcams.com/video/VivHAH_g01g/video.html

    Thanks for the excellent video! I'm a confused noob, so excuse my ignorance...but I don't understand why you'd patch the gate into the sample and hold clock? When I do that and use the sequencer it works, but if using midi key input the notes sustain forever. Leaving the switch in the up position and plugging the gate patch cable into the 'gate in' jack on the ADSR seems to work the same, but cuts the notes off when released. Is there a reason for using the sample and hold?

    • @RalphBaumgartl

    I'm curious: does using a passive mult for the oscillator pitch affect the pitch tracking? I was always told that for oscillators you need a buffered mult, not a passive one like you used here in the video. Does it still track 1v/Oct properly when you do it the way you did it in the video?

    • @RalphBaumgartl
      @RalphBaumgartl  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello, I haven't run into any issues with passive multipliers as long as I just duplicated or tripled/quadrupled a signal. But of course I would also use a buffered multiplier if I wanted to split a single CV output to something like 10 VCO's for instance.

    That's cool, clear. Now is it possible to use CV from Keystep or many from Keystep Pro to control various control on ARP using those extra CV (so not only pitch/gate, replacing midi, but other stuff). I'm new into CV, but kinda feel it could be possible, how? TNX!

    • @RalphBaumgartl
      @RalphBaumgartl  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, you can route the CV and Gate signals of the Keysto to any CV Control input of the B2600. If you need to duplicate CV and Gate signals from the Keystep then just use the multiple Jacks on the B2600 and/or additional multipliers.

    Hello Mr. Ralph Baumgartl. I have a question on the subject of Behringer 2600 and my question and: would it be possible to control the CV & Gate of my Behringer 2600 blue marvin with a Behringer odyssey or the only possibility of controlling it as in your video with a Arturia Keystep Thomann Edition? And for the Arturia Keystep 37 version, useful or useless for my 2600? Sincerely !

      @RalphBaumgartl  Před 17 dny +1

      Yes, you can use the CV/Gate Out of the Behringer Odyssey to control the Behringer 2600. Moreover any Arturia Keystep can be used with the Behringer 2600 either via Midi or CV/Gate. Another option is the Behringer Swing. Greetings, Ralph

I also have the Boss DR 770 drum machine set to MIDI OUT feeding to the Keystep MIDI IN....when I try to play an arpegiation, or sequence.....nothing happens. Any guidance would be appreciated.

      Hi Erik, make sure you set the Midi channels correctly on all three devices. You have to decide which device is the Midi Master device which will send the clock to the other devices (midi slaves). The midi slaves must be set to receive an outside midi clock. Please bear in mind that you can also use a DAW as Master device to send a midi clock. Hope that helps. Greetings, Ralph

      Yes, it can! But it requires some additional patching depending on what you want to do. But for simplicity I would go via Midi if you want to use the modulation pads of the Keystep. Please note that I was using the Keystep to simulate a hardware sequencer, not a CV/Gate keyboard controller.

    Hello! I recently bought a B-2600. Wondering if you could tell me how I would patch that to my external modules? Maths, Rings, clouds to be specific.

    • @RalphBaumgartl
      @RalphBaumgartl  Před 2 lety +1

      There's no specific way to patch the B2600 with external modules. It also depends on the specific function of an external module. Modular Synthesis is freedom. There's no right or wrong way. It invites for experimentation. If you use the Clouds module you can feed Audio from the VCO's, VCF, VCA, Reverb etc of the B2600 into Clouds. Anything goes. Happy patching, Ralph

    Hey, could you help me out?
    My keystep pro is sending cv and gate to my b2600
    I send cv to mult then output to each oscillator
    This is at 1v/o
    The gate out is running at the 12v setting going to gate and trig in where I use a stackable patch cable to send signal from on cable to two inputs.
    The sound is always quite a bit quieter than when I switch over to s/h clock with no gate input.
    If I just use the gate to the s/h input it’s also quiet.

    • @RalphBaumgartl

      Try NON stackable cables and go via the S&H Gate plug. It's possible that the stackable cable attenuated the Gate signal. It's a guess, I have never experienced what you have described on my systems.

    i want to control the Behringer 2600 via cv and gate using the Matriarch to control it. Wanted to "dip" the waters and see how exactly the Matriarch can function as a modular hub before adding more modules. I did exactly the same as shown in this tutorial, step by step - but while i can trigger notes (gate to amp envelope via the s&h input with the switch down, and cv to mults to the oscillators) - it doesn't seem to also trigger the filter envelope - although it's supposed to. So i'm not sure what i'm missing.
    Is it something i might have missed on the Matriarch? Some kind of global parameter i need to change?
    Or is it something i might have missed on the Behringer 2600?
    Or perhaps haven't missed anything and this might indicate that something is faulty? Happy for some help and insight
