  • On today's episode of the It's Only Rock And Roll Podcast, we sit down with DENNIS LOCORRIERE, the voice behind a laundry-list of Top 40 hits released by Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show (later shortened to Dr. Hook) between 1971-1985, including “Sylvia's Mother”, “When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman”, “Sexy Eyes”, “Sharing The Night Together”, and the inimitable “The Cover Of Rolling Stone”.
    He recounts the band's ability to shift from long-haired, free-spirited, wild live act, to a radio-friendly, soft-rock / disco-ish sound, and the continuing longevity of those gamut-ranging hits. We also cover working with iconic writer Shel Silverstein, Dennis' post Dr. Hook touring as a member of Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings, his experience meeting a Beatle, and having one of his songs covered by Bob Dylan!

    Dennis is still as down to earth and as funny as ever. Let's not forget he's as handsome as ever.

    That is so sad that he doesn't think that we don't love him in the United States. Oh my gosh! He is and Dr. Hook is who we are, my generation. It really hurts my heart and makes me sad that that someone who has had such a big influence in my youth and my adult years doesn't care. Regardless of what Dennis thinks & feels I will always love him and the music Dr. Hook made.

    I'm absolutely in love with Dr Hook and to this day so often listen to their music. My children don't listen but my 8 & 10 year old grandsons do. They love it. We also watch the videos on you tube. If Dr. Hook doesn't deserve to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nobody does.Dooly Parton in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & Hook isn't. She is a great country singer & belongs in the Country Hall of Fame but she had one Rock Album and she gets in the Hall of Fame? Something is very wrong in the universe!

    Who was the lead singer of Nurse Hook?

  • @Tomassius100
    @Tomassius100 Před rokem +3

    He comes across a bit obsessed with himself and his own ego. Perhaps Ray left the band simply because he felt sidelined to mostly just shaking marakas, not because it was "too confusing".

      You are so wrong about Dennis. For years, he wasn't acknowledged as the lead singer for Dr Hook. But he never made a big deal about it. Dennis helped Dr Hook get back on its feet after they claimed bankruptcy. He could have easily walked away, but he didn't. The band cleaned up their act, and Ray just wanted his own career. There were never any hard feelings between any of them. This is, after all, an interview of Dennis Locorriere, so obviously, he's going to talk about himself, duh. And he's still singing and entertaining to this day at the age of 72. He looks and sounds great.
