  • If you’ve been looking for a way to cut the cord or you need a mobile cell-based Internet solution to run all your devices, then you should consider the Insty Connect Explorer 4G12. This is far superior to the MoFi 4500 I have recommended in the past and is going to shakeup the market.

      Carriers are now looking at the IMEI number on their networks. Such as AT&T and Verizon now check the IMEI of the devices on the network. They are not allowing cellular WiFi SIM cards in router devices i.e. a router with an unidentifiable IMEI from a router! It does not matter if you set the router to a TTL for a specific (mobile carrier). ATT and Verizon will not register the that Cellular SIM card in a IMEI number that is not cellular identified device. I have a friend that has an Insty Connect that is now worthless with a SIM from his Verizon Cellular phone unless he pays as much as $190.00 a month for some grandfathered plan on eBay or 3rd party plan carrier/vendor. Can you tell us what Carrier SIM Plan are you using to successfully use a MoFI or Insty Connect that doesn't cost a mint? Can you share that information? It would be appreciated. My friends Insty Connect which I installed went DOA on January 19 which is also known as 5G Day when the C Band was activated. By Verizon. There were several aggravating phone calls to Verizon, that revealed what they found, and exactly why they would not allow his cellular SIM in the Insty Connect Modem. Currently my friend is using the same SIM in his MotoG- Z cell phone activating his hotspot on the phone with one device at a time. And some not so great speeds with drop outs and not having the IC Angel Wings. He is in between a rock and a hard place. And has a very expensive UNUSABLE IC router and Angel Wings. And yes he lives in a rural area. We have tried contacting Nick from IC through his account without much help.

    I am getting ready to go full time in my rv this year. I currently have an AT&T grandfathered unlimited family plan for our phones and a Nighthawk M1 hotspot. Would I be able to swap the Nighthawk M1 sim into the insty and continue using it as if it was in the Nighthawk? I currently have a 4G omnidirectional mimo antenna mounted to a pole that I suction cup to the side of the rv and run the cables in thru the slide. Would a similar setup work with the insty?

    • @SeleTraining
      @SeleTraining  Před 3 lety

      Yes. The Insty Connect would take that SIM. Part of the design of the Insty Connect is the Angel Wing antenna and it contains the modem inside so you wouldn't want to use your existing omnidirectional mimo antenna. You would need to put the Angel Wing antenna in it's place.

      Pre-orders have filled up fast so it's probably a month before the inventory will be available to ship immediately for Insty Connect orders. The MoFi is still a working option that is available right now if you need it. MoFi also has their new model planned for release in April. The Insty Connect is worth waiting for if not for the immediate need.

    • @SeleTraining
      @SeleTraining  Před 3 lety

      The Insty Connect would work well. You don't have to enable the WiFi. You just connect it to your network as a failover option. The failover would need to be setup on your network first though because it would control the failover to the Insty Connect. The Insty Connect also has two SIM slots so you could setup a secondary failover carrier as well.

  • @michaelcorrothers8340
    @michaelcorrothers8340 Před 2 lety

    One additional question. On my friends Insty connect we did not change the TTL setting. And Verizon shut it down on the Insty Connect. Do you recommend changing the TTL setting and trying it again? Do you happen to know the TTL setting for Verizon? Perhaps that might be the issue. Or is it to late for that?

    • @SeleTraining
      @SeleTraining  Před 2 lety

      The TRL should be set to 65 for all carrier SIMs. If your speed was throttled the TTK setting should change it back to full speed. However Verizon does also lock the account sometimes if the IMEI does not match when you use the SIM in a different device. Verizon is the only carrier that does that from what I have seen. If so you’ll need to contact them to enable the SIM.

    • @SeleTraining
      @SeleTraining  Před 2 lety +1

      You don’t want to change the IMEI of the router. You’ll need to contact the carrier to see if they can match the SIM with the router. Some carriers will do that. However Verizon is the most challenging and they appear to be the main carrier that blocks you if the IMEI is not registered. The other carriers don’t seam to care and will allow it to work.

      The Insty Connect won't boost the cell signal for your phone like a Weboost. However, I got rid of my Weboost because you can connect to the Insty Connect WiFi with your phone and do wifi data calling. That works just as good when you have poor cell reception. The antenna for the Insty Connect actually works much better than a Weboost. It also makes wifi available for all your devices not just your cell phones. • @SeleTraining
      @SeleTraining  Před 2 lety

      There are many cell SIM routers and they vary in price depending on functions, speed, 4G vs 5G and other variables. Many cheaper ones have Cat 3 modems inside. The Insty Connect 4G12 is a Cat 12 modem. The higher category means it can aggregate more bands and can handle more throughput of data resulting in faster speed. The Insty Connect also includes the antenna which is a superior design providing the best connection to cell towers. One feature only available in a couple brands of routers is the option to set the TTL which allows you to surpass data caps on your cell plan. All those features makes it a much more expensive product. Most of the cost is actually in the category level of the modem.

    Will wait for some perfomance reviews before I drop $1000 on the 5G model, but the design definitely looks interesting.
    FWIW, I've been getting good results by mounting my Netgear M1100 in a weatherproof box on a pole and running ethernet back to my Wifi 6 router. (Bit of a challenge to keep the unit from overheating, but it essentially provides the same optimization of raised antenna without loss of signal strength due to long wires. Swapping SIMs is also not at all convenient; eSIM would fix that.)

    Looking into purchasing this but want to make sure it will be suitable for my needs before making the investment. What AT&T plan do you use? Is it something that I could still get or are you grandfathered in on an old plan? My cellular plan is through AT&T and I’d like to just add a line for this. AT&T reprioritizes during times of congestion after 100GB on their unlimited plan. Have you experienced any major throttling with AT&T? I’ve seen in some forums that AT&T is getting strict about SIM cards matching the device IMEI they are registered to and they are shutting people down for using cards in other devices. Have you experienced any issues with this or is there a work around for that? Thanks in advance for your time.

      I have an AT&T iPad Unlimited data plan and added another line to my T-Mobile plan as well. I use the SIM that provides the best coverage depending on my location. With the TTL set to 65 you can go past the data limit without throttling. It's a trick I've mention in a few videos. You can still get deprioritized if you are connected to a busy tower and you're over your data limit but I have only experienced that twice in the past 2 years. Both times were during major events going on in a small town and I had horrible speed for a few hours. As soon as the events ended and people left it went back to full speed. So it is very rare. The AT&T SIMs that are getting disconnected are prepaid plans. I have not heard of anyone getting shut down for T-Mobile or AT&T with a postpaid plan. Two people have mentioned getting suspended for overuse on data and it was because they used over 500GB per month for several months. I've been using well over 200GB each month for the past 2 years with no issues.

    • @SeleTraining
      @SeleTraining  Před 3 lety +2

      I strongly recommend the Insty Connect going forward but the MoFi was the best option that I had seen previously. The 4G12 is $499 but if you buy the MoFi it's $300 and then you would need to add a Proxicast antenna for $130 plus cabling to be even comparable to the Insty Connect. The 4G12 is a far superior router too and probably costs 3 times as much as the MoFi router to manufacture. Most of the complaints about the MoFi have been poor signal in congested areas, slower connectivity through WiFi, confusing menu settings, and lack of carrier aggregation or the less bands depending on which model you get but there was nothing you could buy on the market better until now. I even spoke with MoFi several times about improvement to their product but they have been very slow or non responsive. All those issues appear to be addressed with the 4G12. You can certainly save some money going with the MoFi without an antenna and if you are in the right location with no congestion you may be able to get similar performance results but most people will see a dramatic improvement with the Insty Connect. To me that's worth a few dollars. I've also had great communication with Nick and I suspect he will keep the product well updated over time and the support should be better than with MoFi.

      The Angel Wing antenna is a better design with the modem housed in the antenna. It means you get less signal loss to the router. Also support and the return policy is generally better based on the feedback I’ve received from users. The MoFi menu is more confusing too. They both performed similar in my speed test comparisons. Nick created the Insty Connect as a response to his displeasure with the MoFi. The firmware updates are more frequent. You’ll still function fine with either but I recommend the Insty Connect over the MoFi. I’ll be testing the 5G version soon. The 5G price for the Insty Connect is much higher than the MoFi though.

      It's available for pre-order right now. The 4G will ship in a few weeks. Insty Connect tells me the first 50 will ship quicker if you get in early. The 5G model won't be available until summer though. The 4G is $499. I've not heard of a true unlimited Visible plan with no caps. They supposedly got rid of the 5Mb speed limit so I'm not sure which plan you are using or if it will act different in the Insty Connect. It should work the same as what you would get now in another device because the plan is the real limiting factor on data caps and speed. The Insty Connect is just going to give you much better antenna reception and provide a hotspot to all your devices at the maximum speed that your data plan will allow. If you set the TTL to 65 it normally will allow you to go past any data cap without throttling anyway.

      The Insty Connect will let you have up to 50 devices running through that one SIM card. If you have a 5Mbps speed limit with your data plan it won't change that. Since you have a true unlimited plan the TTL setting is not necessary and you could use any 4G LTE router and it should work fine unless the antenna is necessary for you to improve the signal. That is one benefit of the Insty Connect. I don't know anything about the filehub but you would need an LTE router that let's you insert a SIM card to make this work.

I noticed in some parts of your video (minute 4:10 and 5:55 and 6:00) Nick Joellen holding a cell phone and it has Visible Wireless compared to AT&T on the screen and on the Insty Connect software. Do you know if the 4G12 will work with Visible Wireless? Visible / Verizon seems to be the most particular about the device. For example not all unlocked phones will work with Visible.. only those they approve. Hoping the Insty will work with it, as it is easy to add a line and with Party Pay only $25/mo.
