About Col du Solude via Villard Notre Dame - Hidden Gems of Isère Series
Col du Solude is located across the valley from Alpe d'Huez. It is a beautiful climb that few know about. The ride starts flat in Bourg d'Oisans. But it won't be long before you get to ride double-digit gradients. The steep road takes you up to some segments of stunning balcony road carved into the mountain wall. You will have to go through some long and dark tunnels on this ride, so remember to bring bright bike lights... Luckily there are hardly any cars on this ride, so you do not have to worry about traffic in the tunnels. Roadies stop in Villard Nortre Dame, but if you have the proper tires you can continue up the gravel road to a nice lookout with great views of the valley. The road then descends slightly before you have the last climb to Col du Solude. This is not an easy ride, but the uniqueness of this ride makes it a ride worth its effort.

    Just add music:
Most cyclists would agree that the ride to Col du Tourmalet is awesome. But when it comes to music opinions are very mixed. This is why we have not added any music and why we recommend adding your favorite music to the ride. It is quite simple. Mute CZcams and open a browser window. Find a site that offers music (Spotify, CZcams, etc…) and pick the music you like, and enjoy the ride... The original sound of the ride has been left out. This is because the natural sound of the surroundings is drowned by noise from passing cars, vibrations from the road, wind, and the rider's breathing.

Continuing from yesterday. It gets better. Dappled sylvan landscape with glimpses of spectacular mountain views and then a hilltop village perched on the top. But no continuing on one breaks through the trees to upland pasture and wonderful scenery of mountain ranges before making a descent through the trees and an upward turn to the finish. Exhilarating. Thank you Bike the World, though I wouldn't want to do it by car!!

What an amazing ride. 20 minutes in and already overhanging rocks, near black tunnels and precipitous falls on the edge. Even though I'm riding virtually I still got a tinge of vertigo. All the while The Lonely Mountain standing proud. Thanks again Bike the World

Thank you again Bike the World. What a scenic ride!! I do miss the road noise, but I suspect, correct me if I'm wrong, that this ride is silent because it was filmed from a motor vehicle. Which would explain why there is no road noise. The clues are the way the video 'bounces' when the vehicle goes over a bump, and how the hairpin turns are taken, and how fast it is going, after that climb, I doubt a bicyclist would be going that fast. All in all, a GREAT ride, and thank you for your beautiful videos, road noise or not.

Did this climb in 2017 absolutely stunning , over the top is a bit sketchy as it turns to gravel and then the descent the over side had some quite tight hair pin turns. :-)
