Curious about buying a house in Madeira for under €200,000? I've received numerous emails on this, and I'm here to spill the beans.
I personally think that location is most important. I have just bought a 116 m2 2 bedroom condo with sea views in Canico Garajau in walking distance to the main road. As I just turned 60 it was important to me to have amenities in walking distance, a parking spot, not to be up high, especially for mold reasons, and to be within 15 Minutes in Funchal and the hospital. Didn't want to drive an hour or so to go to the movies or to eat out at an international restaurant.

Interesting. I didnt realise your place was one of those where theres no parking access so you have to walk a bit to get to your car...... it's amazing how much money you can save on some places like that, can be a really good option for some people on a budget who can get a nicer place than they otherwise would I think

Please may I recommend our fellow you tuber Simpleton Portuguese. He has a great sense of humour and has masses of Portuguese lessons; he is from Porto rather than Madeira but we all have our problems 😅😊

I did Duolingo many years ago for a few months to then find out that it was Brazilian Portuguese and almost useless in Madeira . Memrise have an app which is great and is in European Portuguese which is very good for building vocabulary. @@Livinginmadeira
Unreasonable house prices are most places in the world, so you're finding a lot of people shifting their residency to lower cost countries like Portugal because of it. Is Golden Visa still active for real estate purchases anywhere? I thought not...

Yes the golden visa through property investment is still available in Portugal's Autonomous regions ( Madeira and Azores ).
Nice to see you back, I saw you at Leroy Merlyn and really wanted to ask you about the roof, as I am having mine repaired and painted with water prof paint. Been very lucky to get my property just before the price increase, also parking space for 5 cars, 20 mins from Funchal, close to Ponta do Sol and Ribeira Brava , but I have lots of work at head of me.

I have seen how the prices have ballooned myself as I have been perusing the real estate sites and pondering a move. I should have pulled the trigger on emigrating when I first looked as now I do not believe that the prices bear any relation to the value of the buildings.
Don't be disheartened Dallas. Whenever you move is the best time and i'm sure you will find the perfect property. I've heard stories of people negotiating prices of houses that have been on the market for an extended period :)
