    • My Journey To Be An Expat
I'm contemplating if moving to Madeira Island is the right decision. As my circumstances are very different then most peoples! My next move in pursuing moving abroad will be visiting the Azores.
Most likely as a Workaway though as I don't have the founds to stay in Hotels or Airbnb's.
The planning for this will start soon as I need to get in contact with host's etc.

This video was an unicorn among multiple Madeira hyping videos. I have visited once in Madeira and felt exactly as you did. I loved more the Azores authenticy, calmness and peace. I ended up buying a new development to east from Lisbon old town at riverfront, where it is more peaceful, but I have a lot of museums, restaurants etc 15-20 minutes bus/train/metro drive away. Also beaches, natural parks and small towns less than 1 hour ride away. And back to scandinavia where I will live at mid summers and mid winters only under 5 hours flight.

This take shows most of the time spent in Madiera was in or around Funchal. There are some very quiet rural areas on the island, where home prices are much lower, tourists are few, noise is not an issue, etc. But, I would say if someone is thinking of living there and doesn't love it on first visit, look elsewhere, there's a big world out there so find your place!

Hi I did take trips to rural areas and yes they are not very busy if you don’t count the tour buses or Jeep tours. But they are not easy accessible which is a problem for me not having a drivers license!
This is my impression and I need to get my needs met!

Azores will be perfect for you, and there's direct flights to US and Canada

Thank you for your thoughts. With global climate change I think Madeira might be a good place in the future.

There's other people already living in Madeira from Canada. Summer is the worst to visit Europe, everything is bussier and booked

I know I m Swiss grew up there I had no choice as that’s the only time a got time off ! I also know that a lot of Canadians and US expats live there . Put it is very over commercialized and over build . I do like all the natural beauty when you get out of the touristy places.

@@liveyourbestlifeover50 Such an odd take for Madiera. Funchal only, sure, but my guess is you did not spend much time in areas outside of Funchal and it's surrounding towns It's all good, find the place you love, don't settle.
