  • Trying the local and most authentic foods when you travel should always be a top priority! It's one of the best ways to experience local culture. Today, I got to try the very best local cuisine Madeira has to offer. Join me on Madeira's Food on Food tour in Madeira's capital, Funchal, where we eat & drink those dishes that Madeira is most famous for. #TravelMadeira #Madeira #TravelGuide #TravelVlog #Madeira2021 #FoodTour #MadeiraFood
Starting at Taberna Ruel restaurant, we try the traditional bread Bolo do caco, scabbard fish with fried banana, Polvo (octopus), local fresh cheese, Espetada and Madeira's famous pork Christmas dish. Then we drink Madeira's famous Poncha, before heading to the farmers market. Somehow, I managed to save room for Madeira Cake, Madeiran tea, local biscuits, chocolate infused with local fruits (Uau Cacau), Portugals famous pastel de nata (egg tart), and local cheesecake. Of course, we couldn't forget, Blandy's Madeira wine!

I was ripped off in the Workers Market by a tropical fruit seller years ago. 15€ for rotten fruits. I don't understand how they can keep doing it. If they treated their customers properly they could have a very good business since there are a lot of tourists there but now everybody knows that the place is a tourist trap thanks to few rotten apples. @@irenestein5190 I was born in Madeira and used to go to visit family every year, and one of the highlights for me was to go to that market - it was wonderful, cheap with great produce. I have not been there for a few years now, but quite a few years ago, not sure how many now, but that market became too expensive for the locals as it was such a tourist draw, and they decided to capitalise on that, pushed out the locals and it became exorbitantly expensive. I would not advise anyone to buy anything there. But really, it's no different to any other tourist destination, there will be scammers everywhere, even on beautiful little islands. However, do not judge the rest of Funchal/Madeira by the fruit/veg market standard. The fish market downstairs at the back however is still worth going to and Funchal/Madeira is still relatively inexpensive.
