- Crimes of the Future will open in limited theaters on June 3, before expanding on June 10. Review by Siddhant Adlakha.
Despite having wonderfully twisted ideas (and great performances to match them), Crimes of the Future isn't the triumphant return David Cronenberg fans might have hoped for. Set in a world where the disappearance of pain has led to gory new performance art, the film presents imaginative questions about expression and sexuality, but mostly asks them in words, rather than exploring them cinematically.

Made me dizzy to just see these same clips over and over.
Taking my 8 year old to see this. Hopefully she likes it.
Great idea!
Loool
Hell yeah I’m taking my gramma
😂
LOL! She will absolutely HATE it
Cronenberg going back to body horror is like Beethoven going back to music.
Cronenberg could have done the 5th symphony but Beethoven never could have done Videodrome
This review is so overthought. A plethora of fancy words and sentences with so little meaning. Only wordplay with no substance.
One of the worst reviews I’ve ever heard
Alright genius, explain the movie
Kindve like the movie
"A *plethora* of fancy words" 🙄
Strange that ign didn't rate it a 7
keep commenting ign and 7 in their every reviews, you'll get likes.
Yeah man write 7GN
Because it is a conspiracy against the holy one that is why they will fall flat
Not Disney therefore …
Looks like a great family film
The props shown look alot like the ones in Existenz
Which were descendants from the tools in Dead Ringers…
Really makes you feel like a David Cronenberg film.
Cronenberg, yes please!
Interesting ideas but poorly executed with one of the worst endings I've ever seen. 5/10, and I'm a Cronenberg fan...
Had anyone else noticed the same actor plays the same character from the film Existenz in this film?? Namely Don McKeller as Yevgeny Nourish?? What does this mean.... are the 2 films part of the same story or universe or is this all taking place IN the Extistenz game??
They’re connected loosely
So it's kind of like more of a faithful to the novela version of Hellraiser by way of Videodrome and Exiztance?
Videodrome is an awesome film
First impression of this video was "Hey, I'm watching Warhammer 40k fan art about a Slaneesh cult" :D
Same
That's how Dark Eldar began.
It has a little something for everyone!
9 for me, great movie!
Crimes of the Future was his second feature, not his first. His first was Stereo.
Crimes of the Future was like his 50th movie, what are you talking about?
90% of the movie is just conversation between 2 people. the rest is, people cutting with scalpel. what a crap.
Wow, not a 7? I'm shocked
Practical effects were poor , couldn't help but see Rutger hauer at some points of viggos performance . Can't get the walkouts .tame
So I'm legitimately curious, from everything I've been reading this movie should've received an NC-17 how did it manage to only get an R-rating with the amount of body horror in it?
Umm idk watch the movie itself then you decide rather than let the media tell for you
Maybe that's a sign of its quality? That it's so meh that it isn't even that disturbing
Because you can show a baby getting split in half and get an OK rating as long as there is no no-no words or f bombs in it. 'Muricah
Theres barely any body horror in it; movie is boring af tbh
@@ramonlrey99com Or you can smc
Is it 7?
Almost all of the performances in this are stilted, wooden and ineffective. Mortenson with his constant raspy batman voice as he tries to convey his characters throat issues is wholly unconvincing and forced in every scene. The only performance that deserves praise is that of Lihi Kornowski as the mother of the murdered plastic eating child Brecken. Otherwise the film is horribly miscast and overly heavy on dialogue. A disappointment from Cronenberg despite some interesting ideas.
ign there must have been a typo, you meant 7 out 10 not 6
A 6 is way too high a score in this case.
You totally missed the evolutionary, environmental, and political dimensions.
Because they were barely addressed and mentioned only in passing statements in the script
@@TheSebiestor no
IGN: 6 is the new 9
They famously overrate everything
Very fair review.
6/10
Aeon Flux did transhuman sensual themes better, imho
no thanks
Not Cronenburgs best film by a longshot. The "provocative stuff" felt un-earned, cheap and very hard to take seriously. Combined with depressing settings that looked like something out of an eastern europe dumping ground and no real story to speak of made for a lackluster experience. 2 of 5.
This is an underrated movie
well underrated
ohh looks like a perfect kid movie
This gets a 6 but Elvis and Top gun ate both going to get an 8 because IGN
Top Gun deserved it
Top Gun Maverick is being well rated for both audiences and critics alike. One of the best sequels in a long time and probably better than the original which is already legendary.
Here's an old one that's an excellent film with excellent acting and an excellent cast in case you haven't seen it : COPLAND with Ray Liotta , Sylvester Stallone , Harvey Keitel , Robert De Niro , Robert Patrick and a lot of others you'll recognize .
Top Gun Maverick was awesome. The story wasn't supposed to be a huge intellectual exercise and it wasn't. It knew what it is, and excelled in every appropriate category. Awesome movie
Not 7gn

@@SuperCaleb360 yea, I'm printing money with those likes.
It's fragile
Shut up
But not that fragile
Ah yes, IGN for your daily source of movie reviews. They're just as well received as their game reviews.
what do you mean
Love cronenberg but this put me to sleep .
Existenz was much much better
Yikes! Flat, don’t want to get it!
Okay
Still better than Tár
Better Call Saul.
Noooooo
It was so booooring...👎
Nick Gage is the perfect Critic to review this is kind of movie
gage is narrating not reviewing.
First
looks garbage tbh
ign stick to games
Cronenberg was always overrated. Tbh his son's movie Possessor is better than anything he's done himself.
The Fly is his best movie imo
@@GG-zb2fv agreed!
Possesser is better than anything his dad made... Are you high!
