Dead Ringers is my fave. Alltime favorite film, actually.
Crash is his best. So cold, sexy, gross and attractive. Amazing atmosphere
Crash is a wild ride. Looks great on the Arrow 4K!
I liked this one quite a bit. Still thinking about it days after I watched it. As for my favorite Cronenberg film, I'd have to say "Videodrome." Absolutely memorized me the first time I watched it. "A History Of Violence" would be a close second though.
Videodrome and Eastern Promises are top for me, but then The Fly is very good…
Damn, look at you two lovebirds making out in the corner lol.
CRASH is my favorite Cronenberg film!
My favorite is Dead Ringers! Awesome movie, it reminds me to Possession in a way. My other Cronenberg favs: Crash, Naked Lunch, Crimes of the Future.
MY FAVORITY MOVIE IS THE FLY 1986, I HOPE FOR RELEASE 4K UHD VERSION.
Existenz has a special place for me in his filmography. the bone gun - That image never left me.
But I would say his best is Videodrome.
For me Elliot my fav DC film is “Crash” but equally “Rabid” 😊 I saw “Crimes Of The Future” on its release at Exeter Picturehouse and thoroughly enjoyed it {I love the DC 1970 film equally} it’s been on Apple Movies in 4K for a while now but fantastic to see this now on Blu-ray 🎉
PS yes i know the DC 1970 “crimes of the future” is completely different film simply shares the same title 😅🙌
Thanks for the review
Cronenberg is probably one of my favorite directors.
My faves are:
Videodrome
Dead Zone
M Butterfly
Dead Ringers and Naked Lunch are far better than I thought they were. They both really benefit from todays accurate displays and 1080p+ resolution.
A History of Violence was my favorite though. I feel I need to rewatch it to really say.
I am MUCH closer to ordering this set after your video, but i still need to know if it has a better encode than the Decal release. I know from seeing this in theaters that it NEEDS a really qualified compressionist to deal with its darkness. :)
Dead Ringers is my #1 (or The Brood)
The Fly, Dead Ringers, Crash and eXistenZ - can I name four films as my favourite? :)
I still haven't seen this yet and i consider myself a big Cronenberg fan. Not sure if i wanna put up the cash for SS release but it does look great, like all their releases!
Crash is his best film.
I was finally awarded for my patience on this yesterday. Amazon incorrectly priced this at £25.99 (the same price as the standard 4k). They finally received additional stock yesterday and mine arrived + £5 refund the other day when I complained about the fact this had been preordered back in June and hadn’t arrived. Have watched half of it last night and looking forward to the second half. Despite what I’ve read about the movie, I’m quite enjoying it and it’s definitely a thought piece with the various sun themes at play.
I truly do love this film - I just watched this 4k from Second Sight and damn…I enjoyed it. I didn’t love the ending, but the philosophical undertones to me are what make me LOVE this film. Appreciate the overview - I’m still exploring a lot of his filmography but also loving Brandon right now too with Infinity Pool
Are the bulk of the special features on the blurry and if so--are they Region A friendly?
Favourite Cronenberg film for me is The Dead Zone.
I felt like this was DC doing his thing and not really proving anything or overthinking anything, because at this point he doesn’t have anything left to prove. I really enjoyed it
My favorite is either naked lunch or videodrome
I am not as big fan of these "types" of his films. I prefer Eastern Promises and History of Violence. I would say Eastern Promises is my favorite of his movies although there are a number I like and rewatch often.
Eastern promises wasn’t very good in my opinion I just thought the film maker was poor and writing. So I loved crimes of the future as it felt like a return to form. 😊
Amazing how everyone has different tastes and preferences. Thats why I love this hobby.@@gorehound3414
Agreed 100%...COTF is a pretentious, soporific mess that never kicks outa neutral gear....only tha pseud *Cosmopolis* is worse in tha entire DC oeuvre 🎱🌭🎱
#1 Videodrome
#2 The Fly
#3 Scanners
#1 videodrome
#2 crash
#3 the fly remake
those are my top 3 favorite cronenberg films
Shoot me down in flames, but i actually prefer Brandon's films. Possessor and Infinity Pool are fine opening films in his descendant's filmography.
No shooting, and I've yet to watch any BC films. But I'm making a note to check them out.
Videodrome and A History of Violence are my favourite Two,but I like most of his films,Crimes of the Future is good but no where near his best
My favorites are The Dead Zone, Spider and Dead Ringers.
Hi Ethan.
My favourite croneberg films are
Rabid
The Brood
The Fly
😎
Who is Ethan? 😂 Great choices though! Cheers
@@ElliotCoen sorry Elliot 😩
I’m not understanding all this praise for Second Sight. Are they nicely put together releases? Probably, but you pay through the nose for. Basically if you get them you are paying for the humongous amount of packaging. Most labels (Radiance, Indicator, Criterion, etc) manage to release films with moderate packaging and nice on-disc features, but charge a moderate price, not a bank loan price. I think I’m right in saying that if you just want a blu from SS then you get no booklet, just a couple of extras on disc. I can get 3 or 4 discs/ a box set for what SS want. I’m always going to go for the others, unless the film is one that I utterly, utterly adore, and most of those I already have several times. These editions are for those that like to flaunt their riches, it’s like buying a huge coffee table book. I had thought that I’d get Picnic at Hanging Rock, but when I saw the price I just couldn’t justify it to myself. Conspicuous consumption isn’t in it.
They do a standard edition which is just the disc in a normal case - perfect if you’re not worried about the physical extras
Scanners. Because it led to Scanner Cop 1 & 2 😊
Are you on Twitter at all?
Hi Jake, no I’m not. Is there a good film community on there?
@@ElliotCoen yeah loads. You’d love it.
I have mixed feelings of "Crimes of the Future." I need to see it again to draw any conclusions. I differentiate between "favorite" and "best." My favorite is "The Dead Zone" (1983).
I know cgi was a budgetary need, but it was a bit distracting. Not just surgery, but clearly in some scenes the entire background of a grungy room was green-screened.
I thought this shit was so boring, and I love most of his other movies.
My favorite is videodrome then existenz
I thought cronenberg fans do like this movie? Because it’s body horror like he was famous for with the philosophical element (that I guess some people didn’t get back then)
A History of Violence closely followed by Eastern Promises. Both standout performances by Vigo. Not into his 'body horror' stuff myself
Crash - tried so hard to like it but detested it, I'm guessing it's a dissection of fetishism using a very specific fetish that most won't share but as a result ended up being as profoundly boring as only other peoples' obsessions can be. Naked Lunch - remember laffing my ass off in the cinema when I saw it on release but revisiting it with the recent Arrow edition was very underwhelmed. Shivers/Rabid - linked in my mind as an unentwinable double feature; entertaining but rough edges prevent full immersion for me. Eastern Promises and History of Violence edging towards greatness and lots to admire but not quite up there with - The Brood, Scanners, Videodrome, The Dead Zone, The Fly, Dead Ringers - what a run of classics! But no. 1 for me (ready to be shot down here) - Existenz. I dunno why I love it so much but I just do. Just as I love The Lost Weekend more than Double Indemnity.
Sorry man, but no amount of *4k or glam packaging* will ever make this effort less of a crudfest.
If *Maps* (sorta) made up for tha lacklustre *Cosmopolis* , then DC's next filum is really gona have to smack it right outa tha park to convince me he ain't a spent force in cinema...esp wen son Brandon 's last two filums have been bordering on tha sublime...this 'lo-rent sci-fi thinkpiece so fukn SOPORIFIC that it made me qn whether or not DC is doin' it jus fer sum weird personal kicks...esp wen u consider his Consumed novel is a page-turner, an his other Viggo collabs have all bin superb.
File under UTTER DISAPPOINTMENT. 🎱🌭🎱
Highly underwhelming film. I am huge cronenberg fan, but this one seemed to go nowhere and just added some unmotivated guy with 12 ears.
