I personally think 6'2" with long arms is ideal, but what do you think? #dunkademics - Sport
The shorter you are, the higher fall damage's gonna be for each dunk
it's actually the higher you jump, the higher the fall damage
@@DunkademicsOfficial that's exactly the requirement for smaller folks to dunk. Even if they hang from the rim to lessen the impact, the travel distance between their legs and the ground will still be longer than those who are taller with higher reach.
So yeah, that's what I meant about fall damage. Btw nice video, almost every world famous dunkers for their height is up there! (My favorite is still the legend TDub)

Ofc the shorter the more impressive depending on type of dunk, but I'd say between 6'1-6'5 has the best balance of hangtime, power, style when soaring in the air

Height is less important than reach. Arm length and hand sizes also matter.
Height follows that tho, like no 5’4 guy is gonna have a 6’6 wingspan, height matters and reach follows up with that

@brodykloster2102 yea there is a loose correlation between height and reach, but also real variation. It's actually a big factor in NBA draft evaluation. So it's basically Leonardo Da Vinci was wrong about 1 to 1 reach being optimal. For NBA and dunking it is 1 to 1.1 height to length that is ideal!
ye i'm the same height as Michael Jordan but i have a 6'2 wingspan while his is 6'11, also longer arms shorter height means you dont have to jump with the extra bodyweight. I can hit about mid forearm on rim in peak shape. if i had michael jordans arms i might be doing elbow hangs.

Shorter is the optimal height for dunking because the shorter you are, the more impressive it is, both from a crowd and jumper perspective. It's hard to get hyped about anyone over 6 ft dunking after you see a 5'5 guy dunking.

Best height is 6’1-6’3, Isaiah, J Clark, Chris Staples, Jordan K, J Southerland, etc; are many examples of why I say the height.

6; 5" - 6' 6" is the best height, you don't need to strain and use as much power and you are not slowed down by your limb length.
@@opfreak obviously 6' 9" limbs will slow you down, but at 6' 4" you are still exerting some energy to dunk, unlike a 6' 5' - 6' 6" individual who gets the benefit of your same speed (e.g. Kobe) and can use less energy on the hops. Think of a Dwayne Wade at 6' 6"... that is a Kobe. I am 6' 1" and have dunked only once in my life cos I have dense bones.

You should also ask what's the best rim height for dunking (Which I think is 9'9). Not too low that it looks lame, you still have to jump and crazier dunks can be done on 9'9 than 10.

Probably the best looking dunks for me are usually guys who are about 6'4" to 6'7" and have long arms and big hands to palm the ball easily. Just all the stuff you're able to do and the amount of power you can put into the dunks seems to favor that size of dunker.

That’s why Vince Carter has the best dunks. But 6’2 is a good balance of power and air time because it looks like they are getting up way more then taller heights look at Dennis Smith Jr dunks

I was 5'6 when I started dunking, and Maxed out at 6'1 when I was still playing and dunking. To be able to dunk period, you are in the 99th percentile.. once you start breaking it down by height, there's no telling how rare it is.

I'm 5'11" and back in my day making the 6'5" and 6'6" guys look small was such an ego boost. I'll be 37 this year and my knees clocked out and never came back. Running is rough at times. Just bring back 06 and 07 for a day and I'll be happy

Mj and Kobe were really both 6'4. So chances are Vince was really about 6'4 as well. If you've been around the game long enough, and actually seen players on the court, you'd know that most of them are not their listed heights. They'll be anywhere from an inch to 3 inches shorter. Even Barkley and his own ex teammates admitted he was really 6'4, and you can find a ton of pictures where Jordan is standing next to him and they're the same height despite being both listed as 6'6. #sorrybutthatsthetruth

For me, Spud Web is extra special because he had bunnies at a time before people knew what we knew about trining for explosive muscles. That was literally all natural skill. If Spud Webb had the type of training then that we have now, he'd be dunking on 11 foot rims
I think he was virtually close to reaching the pinnacle of his natural vertical ability. Now if he had enhancements, I believe he’d be closer to dunking on 11 foot than winning a power ball

The shorter the person the better it looks to me personally. Watching 5'7" Spud Webb to his thing back in the day was amazing. Anyone 6' or under the flight threw the air just looks so much better to me than say people taller than 6' to see how high a person 5'5" is off the ground compared to someone 6'5" or taller just looks more spectacular to me. Im by no means saying they are better dunkers or anything else, its just the higher they have to jump to dunk is more spectacular to watch than someone who barely has to get off the ground in my personally opinion. Besides who doesn't like to see the lil guy throw 1 down on the big guys head now and then 😁
