Apparently Battle's cheap look was because the studio slashed the budget to save money for the upcoming tv series, which only lasted one season anyways.
They kept slashing the budget ever since the first film then the Tim Burton one they didn’t slash the budget same with the newer ones.
@@jackmarshall3255 The newer films, including the Tim Burton entry have all had larger budgets & ironically have all made far more money than all of the original 5 "Apes' films combined & with "Kingdom" still making money in theaters & 5 more movies potentially on the way, the modern era of "Apes" will only get bigger & better & continue to outdo the classic era both critically & commercially
"Conquest" feels more relevant than ever, especially in the context of the original ending.
That intro was so well edited! All those shots with Cornelius's voice over was so powerful!
You might be my new favorite channel! ❤ 🦍🤝💪

1. War
2. Dawn
3. Conquest
4. Rise

6. The OG
7. Escape
8. Battle
9. Beneath
10. 01'
Thank you!! And great list!
I wasn’t ready for that jumpscare of dawn in #3 😂😭
I agree with you. The original 1968 is the best film in the franchise. It paved its way to not only more Planet of the Apes, but helped define Science Fiction and cinema in general.
It's a special one for sure
Read the novel, The one which started everything
@@dailyDosageofEng I've read it.
1. War
2. Dawn
3. POTA
4. Kingdom

6. Rise
7. Beneath
8. Escape
9. Conquest
10. Burton
I always love seeing War for the Planet of the Apes that much love ! :D Good video man !
As for my ranking, it would probably go something like that:

4. Rise
5. Kingdom
6. Escape
7. Conquest
8. Planet of the Apes (2001)

7.Beneath the Planet of the Apes
6.Planet of the Apes (1968)

3.Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
2.Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
1.War for the Planet of the Apes
I really like your channel. Keep up the good work.
Throughout my life, I’ve always relegated the Planet of the Apes movies as hokey and corny fun, much like the Godzilla movies from the 60’s. It wasn’t until a few years ago, when I rewatched the Caesar Trilogy, that I recognized the brilliance of these movies. Since the release of Kingdom, I’ve gone back to the original Apes movies. As dated as they look (although, there is a very particular charm to them), they are all genius in their own right (granted, I haven’t finished Battle yet…). They all have a poignant message.
Rise and War are my favourites because I connect so strongly with the oppression and fight for freedom in those two films. The most emotional seen in the franchise has got to be the sceen where Caesar screams, "NO!" makes me tear up everytime.
Cool ranking.Mine would have to be...
1.Dawn
2.War
3.Planet Of The Apes(1968)
4.Kingdom
5.Rise
6.Conquest
7.Escape
8.Beneath
9.Planet Of The Apes(2001)
10.Battle
Am I the only one who LOVES RISE? My ranking
1. The Original

I just loved conquest so much so underrated
I’ve only seen 5 of the 10 movies so lol

6. Escape
7. Conquest
8. Beneath
9. Battle
10. Burton Planet of the Apes
I think mine is the exact same but with War and '68 swapped, but it might depend on the day.
@@Bruester I don't blame you, both of the movies are fantastic
That edit at the start of the video was awesome! Captured the vibe of the franchise perfectly
Koba needs to be in the conversation with the likes of Darth Vader and the Joker as the greatest movie villains. What makes him stand out is I actually went through two movies really feeling bad for him and seeing his side. Caesar and Koba have that Magneto and Professor X type of vibe to them. My list is similar only Dawn is my# 1 and 1968 is my 3. Solid Franchise of great movies!
Love seeing War so high up on the list! One of my favorite movies of all time and absolutely my favorite of the apes movies.
It's SO GOOD
1.dawn 2.war 3.rise 4.kingdom 5.Pota 1968 4.ecape 6.benith 7.conquest 8 Tim burten 9. Battle
Love that you put Escape near the top and love your Zira appreciation! I really hope we get a more impactful female ape character like her in future apes movies. I think Soona could really be fleshed out to follow in Zira’s footsteps.
Personal preference, but I'm one of those who put Beneath way higher. I think they get through the (necessary) retelling of the original quickly enough, but they expand the milieu so incredibly that it enhances the original and even serves to answer some of the questions left unanswered. Why were there sudden unexplained storms and rockslides? The mutants were guiding the astronauts away from the city. Ursus is a terrific villain played wonderfully by James Gregory, and we get to see more facets of ape society and the larger world.
Really appreciated this series of reviews, it’s been a very informative and succinct overview of this franchise with lots of love and respect for the material but not pulling any punches either. Great stuff, friend, thanks for the cool content.
My list is as follows:
1: Dawn
2: ‘68
3: Kingdom
4: Rise
5: War
6: Battle
7: Escape

10 Tim Burton's Planet of The Apes
Your ranking is as among the most unique rankings I’ve seen for these films, totally appreciate it. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
Mine is:
1. War
2. Dawn
3. Planet of the Apes
4. Rise
5. Escape
6. Kingdom
7. Tim Burton's (maybe because of nostalgia)
8. Conquest
9. Beneath
10. Battle
Kingdom for me sits right in between the Planet of the Apes movies I love and the ones I don't care much for
Love to see escape get the recognition that it deserves!!
P.S. love your vids!! Planet of the apes is the best sci-fi franchise of all time!!
Thanks for watching!
I thought I was the only weirdo that liked escape more than any of the other original sequels. I also was the type who liked Star Trek: The Voyage Home which is practically the same concept, and universally hated I think because the light-hearted fish-out-of-water thing isn't what nerds who take these kind of series' too serious want to see.
Great ranking!! Mine has changed several times and will no doubt keep changing as I keep rewatching the franchise. This entire franchise is the most difficult for me to rank, as I adore most of them and understand that every one of them have at least few wonderful things to offer.
I've never been that enthusiastic about Escape but otherwise this is a credible ranking that I mostly agree with
Excellent listing! I’d probably swap Rise and Kingdom but that’s a minor quibble.
Of course the Original HAS to be Number 1 - without it we wouldn’t have the rest!
I’ve really been your content in the run up to the release of Kingdom and am intrigued to see where you take the channel in future.
Wild!! I rank dawn way higher than war but second only to 1968
Love all three!
Interesting list never seen someone put them in this order me personally My ranking would be
10. Tim Burton remake
9. Battle
8. Beneath
7. Conquest
6. Escape
5. The original
4. War
3. Kingdom
2. Rise
1. Dawn
Solid ranking!
Nice ranking!!! For me it would be:
1. Planet of the Apes (10/10)
2. War for the Planet of the Apes (10/10)
3. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (9/10)
4. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (9/10)
5. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (8/10)
6. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (7.5/10)
7. Escape from the Planet of the Apes (7/10)
8. Beneath the Planet of the Apes (6/10)
9. Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes (4.5/10)
10. Battle for the Planet of the Apes (3/10)
I think we used to be mutuals on twitter until I think you disappeared, then one day I search Planet of the Apes on CZcams and here you are with in depth videos and analysis! glad to have found this channel and love hearing your thoughts on this franchise. I had only ever seen the reboot trilogy but went back and binged the whole series before KOTPOTA and loved it. keep up the great work Josh!
Yeah I left twitter a whiiiiile ago lol, but hey man yeah it's me. And nice, yeah think I saw you watching all the OGs on letterboxd recently, glad you liked them! And thank you!
I've slowly learned that I like and dislike too many things at equal levels to do standard numerical rankings. Too many things are tied for the same place.
I've got to start doing tier lists.
So...
S Tier - '68 Original, Escape, Conquest (Unrated Cut), Rise, Dawn, War, Kingdom
A Tier - Beneath
B Tier - Battle, '01
C Tier - Return, Animated Series
I love all of them!!😁
Good ranking keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching!
solid list!
I marathoned Apes for the first time just a month ago. watching all your videos has been a great companion in immersing myself in the lore. I haven’t seen Kingdom yet.
Here’s mine:
1) 1968 - I love a nihilistic protagonist
2) Beneath - Taylor left earth because he hated people, it’s kind of fitting that he ends up being its destroyer
3) War - Epic to see my boys pull up
4/5) Rise/Dawn
6) Conquest -my only issues were the timeline, and I kind of wish that they kept the original ending
7) Escape - I think this is the last of the good movies. Killing a baby is DARK and I love it.
8) 2001 - Mark Wahlberg sucks and so do all the other human characters but I think they did a great job building society of the apes. Good makeup too. Dumb time logic And ending.
9) Battle - ooof
Great video. 👍
Love this Channel and my ranking would go
1. Dawn
2. 1968 OG
3. War
4. Rise
5. Kingdom
6. Conquest
7. Escape
8. Beneath
9. 2001 remake
10. Battle
Maybe it’s because hindsight is 2020, but I don’t quite understand how the twist in Planet of the Apes was so big. Like, there’s nothing super alien about the planet, there are humans, there’s dolls that say “Mama”. It just doesn’t seem like something that would’ve been an unpredictable twist
Hard to argue the placement of this list. I might flip Conquest and Rise on my list, but I’m in agreement with everything else. I used to prefer Dawn to War, but in my rewatch leading up to Kingdom, I realized that I was severely underrating War, and it holds up as a superior film to Dawn overall, IMO.
1. Dawn
2. War
3. Kingdom
4. Rise
5. OG
6. Conquest
7. 2001
8. Escape
9. Beneath
10. Battle
I'm totally with you all the way through!
Nice list! Here’s my list
1. War
2. Dawn
3. Kingdom
4. Rise
5. The original
6. Escape
7. Conquest
8. Battle
9. Beneath
10. 01 (Although I have an ironic enjoyment of 01 and had more fun with it than the 2 movies above it.)
I feel like that too, The cosmetics look great and a more entertaining watch than some of the original sequels. But it's almost obligatory for anyone to really leave it out of the series in general and just call it it's own canon and series with no sequels or prequels and leave it at that. It's just it's own thing really.
@@matt54656 yeah that’s true, I have an ironic enjoyment of it because I find the movie very funny even though being humorous was not the intention of the movie, mainly because of the horrible pacing which makes the characters seem like they are just going through the motions (the main human lead especially has absolutely no reaction or anything to say about crash landing on an ape dominated world at all, he just acts like this is a regular Tuesday), the story which absolutely makes no sense which was obviously building up for sequels, and the acting (there isn’t anything wrong with the acting of the non human characters, most of the ape actors did pretty well, it’s just that they act way too much like regular apes, constantly flinging themselves around wherever and sniffing and snarling at each other just kinda looks goofy and doesn’t give off the effect that I think the directors were going for.)
@@nojorooney yes Hilariously bad movies are fun to poke at i.e. The Room, Samurai Cop, the Fanatic etc.
Like someone actually made this and thought it would be a good idea.
10. Battle
9. Remake planet
8. Escape
7. Beneath
6. Planet
5. Conquest
4. Kingdom
3. Rise
2. War
1. Dawn
My ranking from favourite to lease favourite:
1. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (Best film in the franchise for me)
2.Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Excellent introduction to Caesar and great set up to the apocalyptic world to come)
3. War For the Planet of the Apes (The most emotional film in the franchise)
4. Planet of the Apes(1968) (Still holds up on a story and acting level)
5. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (Fantastic World building)
6. Planet of the Apes (2001) (Childhood nostalgia, I love Tim Roth)
7. Escape From the Planet of the Apes (Nice balance of levity and seriousness)
8 Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
9. Beneath the Planet of the Apes (Underwhelming entry but the one of the best, scariest endings in the series)
10. Battle of the Planet of the Apes (The most forgettable film in the franchise but Roddy McDowall is awesome).
10. Battle
9. Planet (2001)
8. Escape
7. Conquest

my rankings of the Planet of the Apes movies are only gonna be 5 since i really haven’t sat down and thought about this for a minute so
1. War for the Planet of the Apes
2. Escape from the Planet of the Apes
3. Planet of the Apes original
4. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
5. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes(I know it just came out but for me its a really fantastic movie added in the franchise and just the opening of the movie is perfect)
Good ranking list, I think I'd have Burton's film last and Conquest a bit higher, Maybe dawn over War near the top. Every read any POTA comics? I have reprints of the 70s marvel series which did adaptations and also new stuff. I think the rights jumped from company to company and even had crossovers with Star Trek and Tarzan.
You have some solid takes. I laughed at the fact the Tim Burton POTA movie wasn't last place. LOL
It's not great, but I'll still take it over Battle any day 🤷🏻♂️
If you laughed about that, you must not have seen Battle. It is nearly unbelievably bad IMO; it's like they had to have been trying to make a bad film to have come up with something so terrible.
Cesar should’ve been the son of Milo, and bump the story back another 25 years at least. That would’ve made much more sense.
un grand merci de france ta chaine youtube c'est de la bombe bravo!!!!!
I would flip 3 and 4 but that is just a matter of preference, otherwise a solid list!
yo!! we have identical lists!!
I can't choose as many of these films as favourites
It's really only about 3 being the 1968 original of course no. 1 no doubt, then RISE OF APES for it's new approach, & originality we needed a story where we cared about the main characters and we got it here, James Franco...not the best choice for that kind of part & as someone pointed out, he seemed too young not formal enough perhaps, but a surprisingly good film on the back of the Tim Burton version with wooden Wolberg, it didnt seem any more films would be made after that, but luckily they were.
And finally the Ape uprising one...CONQUEST with Roddy Mcdowell as Cesear well written dialogue, and good riot symbolism as a decadent society falls
Hello 😊

1/ POTA 1968
2/ War
3/ Dawn
4/ Conquest
5/ Escape

8/ Rise
9/ Battle
10/ Tim Burton
My list would be almost the same. I would change number 9 and 10. 😅
Hey, what are your predictions for the title to the sequel to Kingdom? My top picks would either be "DOMINION" or "EMPIRE" of the Planet of the Apes.
🙈
1. Dawn

My Rankings of the Planet of the Apes franchise:
10. Battle of the Planet of the Apes
9. Beneath the Planet of the Apes
8. Planet of the Apes 2001
7. Escape From the Planet of the Apes
6. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
5. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
4. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
3. War of the Planet of the Apes
2. Planet of the Apes '68
1. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
A lot of this is really just personal preference but:
10. Escape
9. Battle
8. Beneath
7. War
6. 2001
5. Conquest
4. Rise
3. Kingdom
2. Dawn
1. Planet of the Apes
I don't mind "Battle FTPOA". Its kinda silly fun and the characters make it entertaining. I liked some of the lore building and ties to "Beneath POTA" with the mutant/mole people. For me, POTA (2001) is the weakest due to a very unfocused and underwritten script.
Valid list
This may be a controversial take but the Tim Burton planet of the apes is “alright”. It’s not terrible and it has its moments. So bad it’s good at worst
Personal Ranking:
1) Planet of the Apes (1968)
2) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
3) Escape From the Planet of the Apes
4) Rise of the Planet of the Apes
5) Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
6) War For the Planet of the Apes
7) Beneath the Planet of the Apes
8) Planet of the Apes (2001)
9) Battle For the Planet of the Apes
Might be a while before I see Kingdom.
Now, I haven't seen any of the newer films except for Burton's, so my list only comprises the original 5 plus Burton. So, you know what's at the bottom of MY list. Long rant to follow.
6) Planet of the Apes (2001). This didn't work for me at all. While it was nice that they used practical effects for the apes instead of CGI, the story was abysmal, the characters were ill-defined, and ... that ending. Yeah, I get it - obviously Burton wanted to outdo the shock of the original, while - we all thought - providing a little nod to the end of Pierre Boulle's novel, but failed to provide any reasoning for it. Later, he remarked that he didn't intend to push for a logical ending - he wanted a WTF and let someone else double talk out of it since he wasn't doing a sequel anyway. And, of course, the new production team dealt with it ... by utterly ignoring it. Probably for the best.
5) Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973): As I noted before, it's a shame that the promise of Conquest led to THIS. There was a potential to build on the previous film and lead gradually to the world encountered by Taylor and Brent. But the decision to soften the film to regain the family audience made it unsatisfying on all levels. Severn Darden, as the main villain, was probably the best thing about the film aside from McDowall as a VERY watered-down Caesar.
4) Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970): Yeah, the only reason this is higher than Battle is because they DID make an effort to do something the original didn't, but the film was compromised from the start by Heston refusing to do more than an extended cameo and by McDowall not being in it - which forced the downplaying of Zira's role in the story. The film only starts proper an hour in, and that wasn't enough time to really develop the plotline better. The decision to reduce the budget of the film didn't help either. And it took forever to GET to the new stuff, and then the conclusion seemed so very rushed. It seemed they did EVERYTHING wrong with Beneath, and no one had a clue to make it all come together.
3) Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971): The accessible one. The decision to work WITH the reduced budget rather than having to fight it worked in this film's favor, and the present-day scenes are actually very good. As a reversal of sorts of themes established in the original film, Escape works well. And the producers concentrated on character development in this film more than any other. I always liked Eric Braeden playing the villain (he also did some very good Mission Impossible episodes around this time), and, of course, many scenes are saved by McDowall and Hunter as Cornelius and Zira. This is the ONLY film that actually leads to a sequel, despite the fact that Zira's version of history in no way whatsoever was reflected in the sequel we got.
2) Planet of the Apes (1968): Yeah, sorry, gotta put this at number 2. Heston actually grated on my nerves throughout the film. He's not very likeable, his relationship with Nova is very disturbing, and when he finally regains his voice, he never stops talking. That said, it's still a very well made film - and, of course, it was the only film that had a decent budget (though still not enough to create a technically advanced ape culture as in the novel). The apes save the film, really. McDowall and Hunter were perfect as Cornelius and Zira; and Maurice Evans created an interestingly conflicted character. Dr Zaius knows well how his world developed - and, presumably, that the "Sacred Scrolls" truly AREN'T "worth their parchment," to quote Zira. And he knows the risk of humanity regaining some level of intelligence. With humanity already having made "a desert of his home and yours," Taylor proves Zaius's point by doing so again at the end of Beneath. It has its moments, and the underlying points it makes are still powerful. But ...
1) Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972): Yep, I'm still calling it. Conquest remains my favorite, and, despite the oh so very obvious anti-Nazi/post Watts riots pontification, I think it did the best at world-building. Yeah, making it only 20 years after Escape was probably necessary to keep Caesar involved in the story, which does strain credulity significantly, but it does allow the technology to remain close enough to modern day to remain under budget. That lowered budget does show, but it doesn't hurt as much as you think it should. And, besides, I always loved picking out Century City landmarks that aren't there anymore. Don Murray was the best, most rounded, villain of the series -- more than Braeden's Hasslein, to be honest -- and his Governor Breck really showed a true fear of the apes taking over despite doing so much to ensure it would happen anyway. The compromised ending hurts a little, but, really, it all leads to the same conclusion - the apes taking over and the humans destroying their world in retaliation (which, of course we only see hints that it actually occurred). Conquest really set up a lot of potential, and, sadly, Battle would fulfill none of it. That all the apes are talking before the start of Battle also strains a lot of credulity due to the need to not go so far forward that Caesar can't lead the concluding battle. If there IS a good thing about the recent films, it is that it finally gave us the world-building storyline that we probably could never have gotten back in the 1970s.
But that potential - wasted though it was - is what makes Conquest my favorite. The original film obviously wasn't concerned with world-building, and the second film just failed miserably anyway.
For me:
10. 2001 (3/10)
9. Battle (4/10)
8. Beneath (5/10) wouldve been higher if better executed
7. Escape (7/10)
6. Conquest (8/10)
5. Rise (8.5/10)
4. Kingdom (8.5/10) i put this higher than Rise because i didnt care for any of the humans in Rise
3. War (9/10)
2. Dawn (9.5/10)
1. 1968 (10/10)
I wonder if the ending of the original Planet Of The Apes really should have been considered a 'twist' ending. Taylor should have realized he was back on earth from the beginning, because otherwise how could the apes have been speaking English? The ending is only a surprise to him because he wasn't smart enough to figure that out earlier.
Has anyone else ever thought much about this? Maybe AN could talk about it i n a future video.
Back when the movie came out, it wasn't as obvious and was definitely considered a twist ending.
@@Ape-Nation I think it surprised me the first time as well, but then I thought that it shouldnt have.
heck yeah
interesting
I've always thought BATTLE was underrated and never understood the hate for it. Ever since I was younger and still now, I'd much prefer to rewatch Battle over Conquest and Beneath, and maybe even the original. Conquest is so short and simple with really poor editing. Battle has lots of ideas and really tries to connect the prequels to the original. It also deals with more relevant social commentary on how will we coexist with one another. All the original 5 except for Escape and Battle have stretches of the film that are very slow and kind of boring on rewatches. I love seeing Caesar with his family, teaching the law, seeing the evolution of the mutants, Lawgiver, etc..
Glad you like it! Not for me
Nah Battle is straight-up bad. Everything about it is bad except for the sequence where they go into the mutant city
I don’t really like Roddy Mcdowall as Caesar. He doesn’t really play a good leader, and Andy just plays the role so much better. I still like Conquest tho.

the old movies are interesting but it looks like they were made by literal apes
to be brutally honest the old ones, besides the first, aren't really that great of movies. it's just in their own right are decent watches, and I personally think they are great movies to have as background noise while doing something else. A lot of people just give credit where it is due like with the Empire Strikes Back or something. The kinda people that be like TODAYZ KidZ d0n't UNdeRsTanD DA G0od CInEma wiTh theIR WheElie-BoArDZ n CEE-GEE-EYE n WhAThAve yOO
Still waiting on that discord my guy
Should read the book
Planning on it!
I love the series. The only awful one is Battle. Burton's is poorly written but looks amazing visually. Conquest was hindered by a low budget. The rest are good to excellent. With Kingdom the setup is there for a good trilogy but the payoff has to be there.
Beneath, Original,Escape, Ceasar trilogy (one story in 3 acts), Kingdom, Burton, Battle
Battle get a lot of hate it was a decent movie to me 🤷♂️ a little bit of a drag I’ll admit but I liked the ending a lot
Glad you like it! I wish I did.
@@Ape-Nation 😂😂😂
Do you think they'll make a sequel to Kingdom? I'm not sure Kingdom will break even
It's currently on track to make over $400million and is outpacing War's numbers
@@Ape-Nation It has to reach close to 400 Million to break even, right? I don't think is reaching more than 350/360 Million worldwide
I'm not sure why? Like I said, it's already outpacing War, which made $490 million. Dawn was also at $240 million by the end of its second weekend, and Kingdom was at 237 million. I have no reason to believe it won't hit 400.
@@Ape-Nation I want it, but its not doing as well internationally, we'll see
LMAO did you even see the ending to the movie?? The whole trilogy is already written out of course they are bahahah even if doesn't break even over two weekends they will. You're not even taking into account the next part of the money when it's released on DVD/BR/Digital which will probably put you around 410 million. They already have cast working on the film just under an obvious non disclosure contract. It only costed around 160 million to make what are you even on about with 400 million? It's already turned over 150,000,000 in profit. am I like missing something...or? lol
Wild that everyone ranks kingdom over rise 😂 like how
It's a better made movie 🤷🏻♂️
@@Ape-Nation because of the cgi ???? If we talking overall a better movie it’s rise not kingdom 😂 I need y’all eyes cause my eyes can clearly see the better movie
Or art is subjective, and you like Rise better. That's fine. I like Kingdom better. I think it's paced better and was more visually engaging. The villain and characterization is also stronger in Kingdom for me personally. You see it differently and that's fine. There was no need to come off as rude as you did.
@@NeoConnor1 nah kingdom was disappointing and was so disrespectful the way the pushed the movie so quickly
Dawn>War for me.
This might be controversial but Idc so here we go:
1. The 1968 movie
2. War
3. Dawn
4. Kingdom
5. Battle
6. Conquest
7.Rise
8. Escape
9. Beneath
10. The 2001 movie
This is twisted.
@@vernontk
I warned you 😂
I was with you until Battle
@@Ape-Nation
I like Battle because it ties up Caesar’s arc pretty solidly imo. And the monologue at the end of Conquest was just perfect.
Rise does an amazing job setting up the new trilogy, but I felt it got heavy handed with the whole humans are bad thing.
Beneath was just bad. I didn’t like the human mutants at all.
I loved the prosthetics in the 2001 movie but the whole plot just felt weird. General Thade was freaking awesome though.
(I know this is a huge response, but I thought I’d just give a reason for some of my takes)
I just saw Battle for the first time in forever and going in with very low expectations ... I mean, it wasn't that bad. No, the continuity makes no sense, but I mean do honestly any of the original sequels? Plus it was much better than Beneath imo, which had even more ridiculousness ...
Read the novel bro and You'll get to know how much the OG is nerfed
Movies and books are different things, so that doesn't really matter to me
What’s with all the love for War in the comments?
Might be due to it being an incredible and beloved movie or something idk
It’s one of the better ones but beyond the last few minutes I find it a disappointing cap on the trilogy. It literally does what Battle does which is tease a war finale that it isn’t. “Battle for the planet” “war for the planet” sound climactic, neither of which
Here’s my ranking…
1. War for the Planet of the Apes (Best Of All Time)
2. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (Best Of All Time)
3. Planet of the Apes (1968) (Awesome)
4. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (Awesome)
5. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Great)
6. Escape from the Planet of the Apes (Okay)
7. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (Meh)
8. Beneath the Planet of the Apes (Bad)
9. Planet of the Apes (2001) (Awful)
10. Battle for the Planet of the Apes (Awful)
I love the original, but, controversially, I dislike all of the original sequals.
I honestly prefer Tim Burton's film over all the original sequals. And that film was problematic..mm 😅
The OG was ammazing but only while watching for the first time. Recently i watched it again and its painstakingly uninteresting..
I DARE YOU TO WATCH FIRST 30 MINUTES OF THE MOVIE WITHOUT SKIPPING!!!!
I can watch the 30 minutes of any POTA film but not the 68'film
One of their crew member died grotesquely with whom they spent 18months and they barely had any reaction or talking .......showing red canyon as mars .......hunting scene is great but again hes on parole and gets caught again and again ......3rd act is the only feather in the cap.
Try to rewatch it without your nostalgic lens
I have no nostalgic lens. It's just a brilliantly well made movie. Also, the first 30 minutes is excellent and where some of the best worldbuilding and character work happens for Taylor, and I watch the movie at least twice every year and just did so again a month ago, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Still holds up and remains one of the greatest movies ever made.
oddly enough the first 30 minutes was probably the only part that interested me 😅 the movie felt like such a letdown after having watched the Caesar trilogy before it. of course I can appreciate it as the beginning of the franchise but I was hoping for something way more along the lines of its sequels I suppose
Yoo
🙈🙉🙊
Rise at 6 is too low. Sets up a new world so quickly and so well. Pace is non-stop. Has some of the highest highs in the series in "NO!" and the bridge battle. Baby Caesar!
Also War over Dawn? No wayyyyyyyyy. Koba is a 20x better villain than cartoonish Woody Harrelson. 2nd half of War just falls off.
Agree to disagree! Nothing cartoonish at all about the Colonel, and the second half is dramatic storytelling at its finest.
@@Ape-Nation Prison escape was a bit goofy and unrealistic for a film with such a serious and dark tone. No one saw the monkeys on the power lines? The guard opening the gate when it's just him against 80 apes? Holes in the ground? Also the timing of the other humans arriving right when the apes escape is too much of a coincidence. Love the character work with Caesar but can't overlook those flaws once they get to the cages. Dawn and Rise are just smoother rides.
Love the channel and the content. Keep it up!
I couldn’t disagree more about the ranking of Battle. I feel like Conquest is legitimately terrible and Beneath is also just a bad movie but Escape has some fun moments and Battle is by far my favorite of the classic movies. I don’t even know what to think about your assessment of it because it’s just completely opposite to how I felt watching them all recently. Truly bizarre to hear someone disparage it so harshly lol
I'm glad you like it, but Battle is pretty universally viewed as the worst movie in the og franchise while Conquest is one of the more well liked sequels, so not sure why it's such a surprise 🤷🏻♂️
@@Ape-Nation I’ll admit, I’ve never had a single conversation with anyone about the ranking of this series or even discussed the OG sequels as I only recently watched all of them but I just truly cannot comprehend a world where people actually enjoyed Conquest. That movie was absolutely abysmal and Battle is imo the only sequel that’s truly worth watching.
I think Conquest is a tension-fueled, emotional, and smart allegory for the civil rights revolution anchored by a brilliant performance from Roddy McDowall, whereas Battle is a dull, cheap, empty slog with thin characters/story and the worst villain of the franchise that ends the og series on a whimper, but again, I'm glad someone out there enjoys it even if I don't. To each their own!
